The cell phone thread

This is still the best phone on the market

I hated my storm. I really did. It was fun for a few days with the nice screen and all but typing is difficult (if you type fast anyway) and the OS is really laggy -- much more so than the iphone. It also takes several more steps to do everything, like dialing a name from your phonebook, since there is no keyboard.

I know a couple of people that have them and haven't complained. You can change the touchscreen settings under options to type faster. I've been looking at them since they came out and as long as you stay with the Verizon OTA updates most people don't have many problems. I guess I'll see next week when I get one.:)

I have a Curve right now, but about to get a Storm. Google app is good, if you use XBOX Live, xberry is a good app. Facebook, Myspace, and ESPN are good too.

Have you tried the Opera Mini browser yet? I'm a BB newbie,so I haven't got around to trying it yet.I've "heard" it's faster, but who knows?

You'll probably like it just fine. Most people that don't like it as much are Apple users (like myself),and they've gotten used to the pinch/expand feature in Safari browser, and the much smoother finger "flick" screen to find a song,apps,etc..Also,with the iphone/ipod touch when you click on a letter it enlarges so you can see it in front of your finger, with the Storm the letter you touch just lights up,but your finger is covering it,so it's not much help in making sure your finger is on the letter you really want to type.

Pros for the Storm are MMS,dependable push Email,a very nice screen, better camera, and copy/paste,and a much larger 3G EVDO Rev A footprint, at least in my area I would be on the crappy Edge network until I get towards Nashville with my friends iphone.

Pros for the iphone is the browser, intuitive screen....smooth like butter.TONS of apps,WiFi,pinch & stretch browser.

Still, the iphone is useless if you're in a spotty area like myself. So I went with the best of both worlds (for me) and got the Storm to go with my ipod touch just to put all the cool apps Apple offers.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to most phones, but if anyone has any questions about data cards and tethering a phone as modem,I might can be of some help.

I just got the Samsung Eternity from ATT. I am a previous BB curve and Iphone owner and I have to say that I like this phone much better

I'm liking my Blacberry Curve 8330. My gf likes her Storm. I just like the Word Mole game on there.

I used to have the Opera Mini browser, but with T-Mobile EDGE service it's not fast enough and the BB browser is faster and easier to me. I'm looking forward to the Storm's browser on Verizon's 3G network.

Samsung is beginning to become a major player in the touchscreen cellphone market. They've had quite a few come out the last couple of months. I think they have one out that has a 5 megapixel camera and another one coming out that will have 7.

Yup, like I said, this is the best touch screen that I have had to date and I had a iphone before this one.

Also, if anyone is getting ready to get a new phone, you can go to wirefly and they have excellent deals and you can even extend your contract with you current service or they can set you up with new service with any of the major carriers. I paid 20$ for my eternity and would have paid 175 with a new contract through ATT. They have huge discounts for most of the phones that the major carriers have.

I tried the software settings for the screen and it didn't help. It's more of a physical limitation of having to press and fully let go before you can click again. Kind of hard to explain.

Don't get me wrong, the storm was fun to play with and if you don't use it a ton for work you might like it. But for me, like I mentioned before, it just wasn't as user friendly and easy to use as my 8830.

I use the opera browser from time to time but i prefer the bb browser as long as you have the latest os 4.5

One of the only things that has kept me from getting an iphone is not being able to tether it to my laptop like I can with my 8830.

Yes,thats a deal breaker for most.I used to tether a Palm Treo 700p,but hated the slower EVDO speeds,so I went with a Sprint REV A data card and a cradlepoint router so I didn't have to have it plugged into any of my macs.

I will probably try to tether my Storm at some point just to compare the speeds between the two networks, but it such a pain in the rear because I'm actually in a fringe area,so I have to use an amp,and a Yagi direction antenna pointing towards the Sprint tower to get a strong signal.I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but it was either that,or dial-up.

Thanks to all for the information on Opera Mini...I think I'll just get more used to the BB browser.

I'm going with the palm pre. My treo 700wx has just about had it but I have loved the phone. I'm going to hit sprint tomorrow and see how many months til it hits stores.

I have my iPhone set to wirelessly tether the 3g to my computer. Also if you run Linux on your laptop there is an application to tether thet 3g to the computer through the USB cable.

I'm on the market for a new phone. I've currently got Verizon service, but I'm thinking of making a switch to AT&T. I'm looking at the Samsung Omnia, the BB Storm, and the Dare for Verizon; and the Iphone, and the Eternity for AT&T. Anyone have any info on the Omnia besides the 5.0 camera?

Samsung is supposedly about to release a cellphone that will have a 7.0 megapixel camera. I'm about to get the Storm though some people don't like it. I haven't heard anything bad about the Dare. The iPhone is probably the best phone on the market right now if you're looking for browser, text, and apps. It can't send MMS though. Bearcat has the Eternity, he can fill you in on that one.

My wife has the Dare. It's a nice phone, but it isn't the iphone ,Omnia,Storm, etc. It's a "dumb phone" with a lot of features, but you don't have many applications that you can d/l to it like with a smart phone. One good thing about going with the Dare is you don't have to purchase a data plan like you are now forced to do with Verizon if you purchase any smart phone/BB.

The Omnia is nice from what I've saw in the reviews on youtube, and is one of the few phones with Verizon that has Wifi.It comes with Windows Mobile, which I think is horrible, but some people like it.

If you take a look at YouTube,do a search for the Omnia, and a guy that reviews under the name "phone dog." I think he gives some of the best (unbiased)cell phone reviews.

Yup, phone dog is the best when it comes to good reviews for phones imho. Like I said in a earlier post orangepeel, whenever you get ready to buy a new phone, go through wirefly.com. You will easily save 50-75% of whatever you could going directly through the carrier. I have bought several phones through them and have been very happy with their customer service and quality of phones.

Went with the Eternity through BearCat's wirefly recommendation. Got the phone for free on there. I would definitely agree with BearCat and highly recommend giving them a look before you head in to the actual store. Saved me at least $150!
