Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

You're another one I'll expect to hear from next year when Pearl isn't coaching a SEC team.

Our sideline has the best chance, but probably not next year unless the appeal he has filed with the NCAA to shorten his show cause is approved. Turning a program around is what fills seats and this dead from the neck up coach we have can't do it.

Ok. So if no SEC school really pursued him strongly what's the reasoning in your mind? That they don't want a proven coach running their program?

It could be any number of reasons but Slive will not be one of them.

If Slive does retire in August what would you say then?

Like what reasons? Why would no SEC AD be interested in hiring the guy that may have the best resume of anyone available and has proven he can build up a program in the SEC? Give me some reasons why Alabama and Georgia wouldn't be interested in Pearl?

August is a little late to be hiring a basketball coach.

A big 10 job might come calling, he might want to keep doing TV any number of reasons he (Pearl) might not be on a SEC sideline.

If Slive decides to retire it will be known well before August. Even if he doesn't, how many years could a 73 year old man keep screwing with a school, two/three? Then do you think the rest of the schools wouldn't say wait a dang minute, we run our programs not this old man! And revolt?

There is no logic behind anything you say in this regard.

Weren't you predicting him at Vanderbilt next year, which is it?

If there's SEC openings, and they don't pursue Pearl...you can twist it any way you want, but that's no coincidence.

I would say given his history, a B10 opening is even less likely than an SEC opening.

Sounds to me like you're going Fulmer on this.

No I said I would watch out and wouldn't be surprised if Vandy came calling.

Have trouble reading?

Apparently, but to me it sounds like you're talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Like I said, if there's SEC openings and nobody makes a strong run at Pearl that should tell you something. If Pearl is coaching a SEC team next year I will definitely admit I was wrong.

Bleed, this is not a counter argument, I just want to wish you a merry Christmas and hope you have a wonderful day.

If the show cause is active until August of 2014 then Bruce Pearl will not be the head coach of any major conference basketball team in 2014. There isn't a single school willing to hire someone two months before the season would begin. That is ludicrous.

I would, however, be interested to see if he appeals his show cause this year and has
It reduced.

The language in the show-cause penalty is unique but clear: A school could face its own penalties just for giving Pearl a job.

Pearl and the assistants under him are banned from participating in any and all recruiting activities defined by bylaw 13.02.13, which prohibits them from contacting recruits.

However, it does allow any of the four, if they were to be hired during their show-cause periods, to evaluate talent.

Jones, Forbes and Shay, for example, could be hired in spring 2012 and have their recruiting abilities -- but not evaluating privileges -- restricted until Aug. 23. The same is true of Pearl, until the expiration of his show cause in 2014.

"The infractions process is difficult. Although we do not agree with every aspect of the Committee On Infractions' decision, we appreciate the efforts of the enforcement staff and the committee to resolve this case in a timely and reasonable manner," Stu Brown, attorney for the three, said in a statement Wednesday.

The NCAA cannot hire or fire coaches. Under a show-cause, a school can hire Pearl and that school does not have to appear in front of the committee on infractions to do so. Pearl and a potential employer would have to write a letter to the committee stating they agree to abide by the restrictions and then report back every six months. The only time the hiring school would have to appear in front of the COI is if it wants to challenge the committee's restrictions.

It's not about Slive. No AD in the SEC is going to stake his job security on the character of guys like Pearl and Petrino. That's why neither will be in the SEC next year, and I'd be more than happy to make a bet with anyone who thinks otherwise.

Pretty heavy for a barbecue. IMO. 'Course, the AA makes up stuff as they go along. Makes them feel better about their self righteous selves.
