Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Can't have a legit discussion if you honestly don't know the difference between facts and opinions.

The one mistake doesn't undo all the good he accomplished while he was here, taints it a little maybe but its not like he didn't reenergize the program and have the winningest program since Mears. He also worked hard raising money for charity.

Those three facts are not disputable. Now you may have the opinion that his accomplishments were ALL done outside the rules and my opinion is he had the one major lack of discernment. Those are opinions.

No argument that he made UT basketball revelant again. I was very happy with Pearl and thought we had the coach to keep our program at an elite level. He did do lots of good in his time here. It is not opinion that he also made very poor decisions that resulted in bad results for our program and for himself. If you look at his past, he was blackballed by major universities until UT hired him because of turning in another school and using a doctored tape to try to nail them. He cheated on his wife. He lied to the NCAA. He was fired. He was given a three year show cause due to unethical behavior. All that is fact, not opinion. I think you are the one who is having trouble separating fact from opinion.

I honestly understand this as what happened...maybe I missed "the rest of the story"?

I just think its a little naive to believe he suddenly had a change of heart and wanted to tell all lol.

He knew he was busted and that's why he went back, one last ditch effort to try and save his tail.

Hey, remember the story of the woman at the well? The yard must be rock free around your glass house with that attitude.

I have no problem if some other school wants to take a chance on Pearl. I don't have a glass house. The woman at the well was clearly recognized for what she was. Same with Pearl. Could he possibly change if given the chance? Yes!

Not that familiar with Sampson, but Petrino came across as introverted in interviews I saw - nothing like CBP. You have to try to not like CBP.

Take off the orange glasses and its not.

People up around the Illinois region sure dont have a problem hating the man. Tennessee fans loved him no doubt, but outside of East Tennessee he was hardly considered a saint.

We don't have to speculate on his moral fiber. He has already clearly demonstrated that to everyone. Apparently, you didn't read my comment. If you ignore that little matter, you can then speculate on his future success or failure assuming that he doesn't get fired due to his NCAA issues.

We don't have to speculate on his ability to win basketball games either.

Your entire point is predicated on him being caught, proven guilty, and fired.

Mine is predicated on him not, and continuing the success he was experiencing and building on.

The ones I know outside of East Tennessee hated him for "kicking that tail"...now granted up north of us(if they even knew who he was) had a bad taste for the squealing to the NCAA thing...other than that...most of the dislike was competition related....at least from my vantage point...

And Pearl was mentioned for some assistant pro jobs at one point wasn't he?

Point being, I've never heard about any big time college program calling up or targeting Sampson...and he's a much more proven winner than Pearl.

Sampson's show cause is not up till November 25, 2013. I think he is happy in the NBA, but agree I don't think anyone would want him after IU athletic director stated he made a mistake taking a chance on Sampson.

So then it's unlikely anyone will hire Pearl next year because his showcause isn't up until August, just 2 months before the season starts?

After the way he turned our program around I would not be surprised to see someone snatch him up at the end of the season next year and wait till the show cause is up. Winning has a way of curing a lot of ills if the coach shows he can spank some big time programs. If he can't, oh well, we went through a lot of that before Pearl showed up.

Who did he have committed at the time he was fired that ultimately would've seen th court that following year?

IMO...Ware and Jones would have seen the court playing along side Tobias, Hopson, Maymon, and McRae. Tobias may have still went, which would not have been a bad thing for future recruiting.

Wait...so Chris Jones would've qualified if Bruce Pearl was the coach instead of Cuonzo Martin? Not sure I understand that one...

I'm not sold with Ware. The violations and shady stuff started popping up with him and I'm not sure that he would've stated committed, but that's debatable. But if he did, how much would he have contributed as a freshman? He played 5 minutes a game as a freshman...

I think Hopson & Harris were gone, but that's one we will never know either.

Hopson wouldn't have left under Pearl.

And yes Jones would have been wearing orange if Pearl was here. Jones didn't score high enough on his standardized test to qualify. He still had 2 more attempt, but elected to not take them and go to JC instead. He would have taken the test again under Pearl. If Pearl got Ramar at UT, then Jones would have been a cake walk.

Ok

Ware would have seen probably less time here than he saw at Louisville. We would have been a stacked team.

Jones/Golden
Hopson/McBee
Tatum/McRae/Ware
Tobias/Maymon
Maymon /Hall

I might be missing someone.

I see that team as likely as this team...

Golden
Mcbee
Tatum
Maymon
Hall

Jones doesn't qualify, Hopson goes pro, McRae transfers, Ware reopens his recruitment and Tobias goes pro.

But to each their own.

CBP was down at The Rush today off Walker Springs. Seems to have put on a few pounds since Christmas when I saw him wandering around Brookstone at the mall.

I miss the ole ringmaster. To me, he'll always be the guy who resuscitated Tennessee basketball. Made it fun again. Damn shame he had to do something so stupid. I think he really loves it here and would have retired here.

CBP did a lot of good for UT and you can't doubt that he loves it here,I do wish him well in the future and hopes he gets a coaching job, if that is what he wants in the future, would i like to have him here still ? yes,but that ship has sailed, unfortunately, lots of simple dumb stuff too,but he put UT back on the map for basketball.something that hadn't been done in a long time,to that,I say congrats CBP

Let me clarify, if he is on your team you have to try to not like CBP.

Your example is due to him turning them into the NCAA.

I recall some of the other SEC coaches not being crazy about him, maybe because he was beating them?
