Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Excellent read. To be honest with you I don't like him even being in South Carolina because before he was fired I predicted South Carolina, Auburn or another SEC school would pick him up and then proceed to kick our buts twice a year. Say what you want about the man, but he sure could motivate and get the best out of his players. It will be hard watching him coach another team.

For whatever it's worth there seems to be a pretty strong belief that as long as Slive is SEC commissioner that Bruce Pearl will not be coaching in the SEC.

It's not quite that easy, you know that. And why would any school want to leave the SEC at this point, you'd have to be a borderline looney.

I just said "if" Slive had that kind of power. I don't think he does, he can discipline teams who break rules, but as I said he is not all powerful.

It's obviously nothing we'll every see in writing or confirmed, but trusted people have said that that's their belief...that as long as Slive is in charge Pearl won't be in the SEC.

If you think he's coaching at Auburn or any other SEC school next year I guess time will tell, I think he'll end up somewhere much lower though.

You could be right. I don't want to have to compete against him on a regular basis and hope he does go to some other team. He has been a winner his whole career so someone will pick him up.

I don't really see him landing in the SEC, either. It's probably silly on my part to think so, but I really don't think he would enjoy having to potentially play UT possibly twice a year, as I really feel like he loves the Vols, even after all that went down. Someone like Penn St. or Rutgers who'll be going into the Big Ten kinda makes sense though.

It's funny that Slive wants to keep the SEC so clean by restricting schools from hiring certain coaches, but doesn't restrict KY (who has a history for cheating in basketball) from hiring the coach in all of college basketball that has the biggest rep for cheating. One that has left 2 programs after putting them on probation, forfeit games, forfeit 2 final 4's. I Don't really think he had a choice and KY boosters and AD didn't really care what Slive had to say in who they hired.

I think there is a next to 0 chance he coaches in the SEC ever again, but I still expect him to get a pretty good job. My opinion is that he will sign with a mid-level program in a top conference. Just like he did when he signed with UT.

I think people thinking he'll be in the SEC very soon are a bit crazy. I'll say he has a decent chance of coaching again in D1 if he wants to, but I would say the odds are very good it would be at a much smaller D1 school. At least his first job back would be; I can't see him getting a HC job in any power conference any time soon.

If he is serious about wanting to be at a place committed to winning in basketball, and somewhere that had won in other sports like football at a high level, then I doubt it is MTSU.

However, if coaching is what he really wants to do, he may have no choice by being too picky. MTSU makes a lot of sense aside from the parameters he laid out in the article. Like I said though, beggars can't be choosers.

Proven winning bball coaches are rare birds.

While he was stupid for the attempted BBQ cover up, the original offense was relatively minor. Minor enough that a program in need could hire him without appearing to be renegade.

My vote is he will land with a program at least on the level of TN, maybe higher - remember Sampson to Indiana?

If CCM doesn't prove out this season then I'm all in to bring him back. If Slive tried to influence it would only make me want Pearl more.

Sampson didn't get hit with a showcause when he was hired by Indiana, so that comparison is horrible. How about post Indiana Sampson, when he WAS hit with a showcause...how many college jobs has he had since then?

You realize this crap hit the fan with him AFTER he was hired by IU, right?

thats also a bad example bc he is/was up for several pro openings and a top assistant on one of the potentially best teams in the NBA.

And Pearl was mentioned for some assistant pro jobs at one point wasn't he?

Point being, I've never heard about any big time college program calling up or targeting Sampson...and he's a much more proven winner than Pearl.

Not sure I agree with your last sentence. Perhaps they are on par with each other, but Sampson has one more Final Four and one more Elite Eight than Pearl, all with Oklahoma, and he was there twice as long as Pearl was at Tennessee.

I wouldn't say that, but who knows. I could easily see LSU or Texas going after him. I would love to have Pearl back and would hate to see him anywhere else. Of course, only if Cuonzo can't get it done this year.
