Whistle blowing ain't cheating. It's more in line with keeping the competition honest. You can't criticize the man for trying to insure a level playing field for his institution in regard to recruiting practices. I wouldn't consider that a negative trait.

Recording a phone conversation without the other party's knowledge, then doctoring the tape to the point where it's unusable is honest?

I asked about the exact same scenario not the modified version you present. But tell me why every school gets in trouble the exact time Cal leaves and he remains unscathed? Do you not find that the least bit odd? And, I think you're saying it's ok to cheat but just don't get caught?

You think Cal arranged for agents to pay Marcus Camby, while he was already at school (so obviously the recruiting phase was long gone), but the NCAA just loves him so much that they decided to clear him of all accusations?

Better to judge coaches over the long haul by regular seasons because just such a small sample size in ncaat...over time your ncaatperformance will pretty much line up with your reg season avg performance. I mean, donovan was a big underachiever in tourney early on and others have been on opp side...over time it all averages out.

This is not at all true. See Frank Haith, Josh Pastner, Mark Few, etc.

One incident doesn't clear him of others.

Any sentient creature could ascertain that my point was that Bruce brought UT to the heights of basketball glory, although his tenure was cut short before he could reach the pinnacle, just as Neyland brought us to the heights of football glory. Had Bruce been left alone to finish the job, we might even have a Final Four or two to crow about by now. Not to gloss over the Ray Mears era, of course. I remember the halcyon days of the Bernie and Ernie show as fondly as anyone else who was there. Although I appreciate the hell out of Mears and shower him with great affection for his unprecedented achievements at UT, Ray never got us to the Elite Eight.

Let’s face it. Bruce was suitably and thoroughly punished for what were, in reality, minor infractions when he was suspended for the final games of the season by Slive and the SEC. Unfortunately for Bruce and UT, the vile American sports media and someone within the ncaa and/or the SEC wanted to make an example of him, although his infractions were nothing compared to what Calipari and his ilk have done, and gotten away with, for years. Bruce and UT were victims of institutional bias and incompetence, especially in the person of the feculent and corrupt Mark Emmert.

The conspiracy theories you're throwing out in this post make it plainly obvious that you're nowhere near as intelligent as you think you are.

He lied to the NCAA sport; had he told the truth, he'd still be coaching. It's as simple as that.

No, they wanted to make an example of him! All he did was have a BBQ and they just decided to pick on poor Brucey! It's the NCAA's fault he lied!

It never ceases to amaze me how much some people on here mock Bruce. He did wrong, was fired, but this program was nothing without him.

But who among us is?

As for me, I try not to think.
It's too much work.

I'm embarrassed that you're allowed to moderate and judge people's actions when you post crap like this. You're self-righteous, pretentious and disrespectful. Ironic you talk about people disrespecting Ray Mears when you yourself just disrespected everyone who doesn't agree with you and decided to create guidelines for who is and who is not "an actual Tennessee fan". Also ironic that some of the people you're referring to probably only cheer for one school, Tennessee. How's Michigan doing? Here's a guideline I just created... you're not an actual fan if you cheer for two major universities. Guess you're not an actual Tennessee fan.

Get over yourself, seriously. And it's good to see a moderator dropping f bombs, nice example you're setting for all. You really make this place feel warm and welcome. People like you are why I generally avoid the football and basketball forum. I've heard other people say the same. Wonder why? When you have a moderator being condescending, cussing and proclaiming you're not a Tennessee fan because you don't share the same view, you can only imagine how some of the others act under said leadership. Ridiculous.

Personally, I didn't take his rejoinder too seriously. But I never take anyone too seriously, including myself. I had the impression he was being a bit sarcastic rather than completely serious. I agree that the Ray Mears era was great and wonderful, but I couldn't put Ray's accomplishments at UT above Bruce Pearl's.

Calipari has told lies to the ncaa regarding serial offenses. Frank Haith and his staff lied to the ncaa. All the usual suspects continue to lie to the ncaa on a regular basis. Yet, all the above are still coaching. Something here does not equate. It ain't quite that simple.

When has he not been cleared?

Just because he hasn't been caught doesn't mean he doesn't cheat. He's the best at not getting caught. He left a trail of destruction every time he leaves a school. You are more than welcome to believe he's clean as the driven snow i choose to believe otherwise.

I doubt anyone believes that Cal hasn't cheated at some point. Still, he has never been caught.

I need to apologize for the way I was posting in this thread earlier. Sorry TOP and Ed. I was frustrated with something else and let it get to me on this board.

Please accept my apologies.

Little to no chance. It's ashame, because he made UT relevant. Now, look what we have to put up with for at least one more year.

If Stokes and Mcrae are back and Maymon is 100% -plus a decent guard is coming in ---- it should be a good year

Sure it's that simple. Pearl admitted he lied. The NCAA cannot prove the others on your list have lied. They may suspect, maybe 100% believe, they lied, but they can only act on what they can prove. With Pearl, they didn't have to prove it, he admitted it. If he had not lied, he would have been slapped with a secondary violation with little punishment. But in perhaps the most boneheaded move ever, he turned it into a major violation by lying to the NCAA. Pearl shot himself in the foot. There was no second shooter, no magic bullet, no vast conspiracy to bring him down. He pulled the trigger on himself.

Fair point

If you're truly sorry, you'll impose a small vaction upon yourself. Take a trip to banned camp. :)

I hate how Pearlophiles act like we were Austin Peay until The Tan Man showed up.

UT went to the NCAA tournament every year under Jerry freaking Green. The only new accomplishment under Pearl was the Elite 8 run, which would've instead been an unceremonious first round exit if not for a fluke hot shooting performance by Melvin Goins.

This has to be up there with the worst posts ever on VolNation.

Way to completely discount our Elite Eight run.
