It was in a few articles, I promise, but thats really not even the point. The only point I was making was in reference to your implication the only cheating pearl did was BBQ gate, that's false.

He, and his staff, contacted recruits more than the permissible amount by NCAA rules. Also, there was lodging approved and paid for by members of his staff that were NCAA violations. They basically were paying for an extra night or 2 of te recruits visit instead of just the allowed 48 hour window.

Which one of these 8 allegations cited by the NCAA committee says that Bruce Pearl was paying for recruits to stay longer than allowed?

Officials with the NCAA found eight violations within the UT Athletics basketball program. Violations included:

1. Impermissible phone calls from members of the men's basketball coaching staff

2. Impermissible contact from former men's basketball coach and former assistant coaches.

3. Unethical contact by the former head men's basketball coach

4-6. Failure to cooperate and act with honesty and sportsmanship. One violation for three assistant coaches for a total of three violations.

7.Failure to monitor and failure to promote an atmosphere for compliance by the former head basketball coach.

8. Failure to monitor by the institution.

You really hate Bruce don't you?

In addition to the phone calls, the university admitted that assistant coach Jason Shay approved lodging expenses for the parents of three recruits, who were en route to Knoxville for official visits, and that those three recruits each were allowed visits that extended beyond the NCAA mandate of 48 hours.

NCAAM Vols self-reported several violations - ESPN

Yeah, I'm not sure if the time frame was the problem, but they were picking up the bill when they were not supposed to (not sure if they're ever allowed to).

From my basic understanding...

An official visit is 48 hours, during that time the school pays for your lodging, food etc. Tennessee was saying hey come in a day or 2 early and we will cover your hotel for those extra nights as well. big no no.

The point I was making was that I don't consider anything that pearl did was cheating. Anything that is considered a secondary violation is not cheating in my book..... There are so many rules and regulations in the NCAA book that every coach in America commits secondary violations.

Wasn't a big no no.....it was a secondary violation.

IMO there's a difference between accidentally breaking an obscure secondary violation, and purposely breaking a very well known rule. The phone calls and paying kr extended visits were 2 blatantly broken rules that he endorsed and tried to cover up for years.

I think u are making a lot of assumptions in your statement.....we made 96 extra calls over a two yr period or approximately 4 a month....A very easily made mistake which we self reported.

My understanding a families recruit came in a little early Jason ebay signed the expense report and since the family was here a little past the 48 hour deadline.....Tennessee caught it and self reported it also.

Bottom line is Pearl made MY university look bad in the public eye.

While I appreciate what he did as a coach, I despise him for further damaging an already declining reputation. For that reason, I hope he stays away for good.

For fans who never attended UT, I don't expect you to feel the same way.

Still not sure why people do not get this.

I attended UT but didn't graduate from there bc they didn't offer the program that I decided to get into.

I really don't think what he did was that bad and the part about damaging our reputation is way overblown......He is a basketball coach, nothing more nothing less.

You made me use Google again.....you know I'm lazy LOL......The main point is that the phone calls were used on UT phones and the extra time which was slightly more than regulations was on the Tenn expense report and was.caught by the Tenn compliance office. The system worked and if the coaches were trying to skirt the system they would.have used the throw away cells and paid out of pocket for room board.....if our coaches were trying to cheat, when the ncaa came in to investigate, they would have found something and they found absolutely nothing.

When a coach is fired for conduct..it damages your reputation.

How is this hard to understand?

None of the stuff about calls/texts and extra hotel nights came out though until after NCAA originally started sniffing around. What was that about?

Im not sure, it may have just not been made public bc they were secondary violations......either way, that would be a Tenn compliance department issue and not a Bruce pearl isue.

It certainly didn't help recruiting. Nor did it help when hiring the next coach. Narrowed the list if candidates down tremendously. Nobody knew what our sanctions would be.

You are confusing reputation with threat of NCAA sanctions..... I don't really think the ncaa investigation affected recruiting much as it was settled.well before signing day....the coaching change affected it more than anything and definitely had absolutely.no affect on coach matrons second.class....As far as coaching search, there is no telling if it had an effect or not....I think Tenn knew the penalties would be minimally. The coach Zo hire is on par with all of our major sports hires in recent history.
