Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

My question is what will the feeling on hart be though?

He didn't manage the football situation all that well, then if he were to can Martin for another mid major coach without even considering Pearl...would Hart be in hot water?

I guess what I'm asking is, if hart goes that route, will fans be calling for him to be fired?

I'm gonna table this ridiculous discussion.

I'm going to re-raise the fact that Tennessee has had two coaches who were winners in terms of achieving year-in, year-out success with basketball. Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl.

Tennessee seemed to enjoy winning every year (weird… I know). The University seems to expect to win (weird… I know). Bruce Pearl is going to be available if there is a coaching change. And if he is available, he is a known "total package" at Tennessee.

But to your point, he did stay in Knoxville, is active in the community, continues to fundraise for local charities, calls Knoxville home, refers to how his family loves it here, etc. But I'm not sure he would welcome the idea of coaching again or trying to win at Tennessee.

You realize there's typically a major difference between fans expectations, and the ADs expectations...right?

probably -- considering how some ex mid major coaches have been floundering as of late, then again Nike is supposed to give recruiting a major boost right ? Blue Chippers flocking to UT, the new Nike school

Think about that....we've hired so many losers. Why risk it again? He is the total package. I read a post that summed it up completely....you have a date with a super model, why go down to the local bar hoping you might meet another.

There are guys who are more of a success that would take the job. Greg Marshall for starters.

We will see what Hart does. But, if he fires Martin, he needs to have a plan in place so we don't end up in a worse situation. If you fire Martin the only real option is to rehire Pearl, he's the only coach in the history of TBA that could consistently fill it up!

Yes. He is still a bammer retread in my mind. And that probably guarantees he would be there forever, just like hammy.

Hart may get a mulligan, but eventually, and ultimately it's Hart's job to get the entire Athletic Department where it was when Dickey retired, which is top 5 in the country. The Vols can only get there if they have nationally ranked programs in Football and Basketball.

Not sure. While the verdict is still out, I think he made a Bruce Pearl hire with Butch Jones. If CBJ starts winning , Hart will get a mulligan on a bad BB hire. However, he can mitigate that by making the "no brainier" hire and bringing back Bruce.. Pretty exciting to think Butch and Bruce could be on the Hill at the same time.

Why would anyone else be higher up on the list of coaches than Pearl? Pearl is proven. Any new coach is a gamble.. how will you we aren't signing up for 3 more years of CCM basketball?

Yeah Pearl has a bit of risk with his allegations and history, but you know what you have in him as a coach. You'd be a fool to not take that chance over any other "up and rising" coach like CCM was.
