Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

I wasn't talking to you then lol, not trying to sound like an a$$, just saying. There's more than a few posters acting as if Pearl is the only option that could succeed here.

He isn't the only option, but he is a known success. There is a certainty associated with his ability to win and energize the fanbase at Tennessee. He is one of two coaches in Tennessees entire history who has done that.

Think about that....we've hired so many losers. Why risk it again? He is the total package. I read a post that summed it up completely....you have a date with a super model, why go down to the local bar hoping you might meet another.

Think about this aspect, maybe Pearl is a bit turned off by this?

Expectations for Pearl would be to come in and immediately have this team top 25 and dancing every year. What if he struggles? Not even horribly, but what if his last year is how the next couple go under him? His whole persona changes and the way he is viewed in Tennessee changes.

Just food for thought IMO

That expectation will hold true at any school he interviews with. So not a unique risk IMO

Question for you BTO, do you honestly think Martin still has a chance to succeed here? I've read a lot of your posts and it seems like you're always finding an excuse to defend Martin. I'm not trying to be an a** or anything but what has he done that makes you think he deserves another year? He's not made it to the tournament and we may not make it again this year. He's underachieving considering we have elite talent on this team. I just think we can do better but it seems like you're very high on Martin. Why is that?

Where have I said he deserves another year?

For some reason people read my posts and come up with their own assumptions for how I feel or what I meant, even though that's not what I said.

If this team misses the dance he doesn't deserve another year, I've said the same thing since preseason, so not sure where the "bto says he deserves another year" is coming from.

Well I may have just read them wrong or something but I'm glad you agree that if he doesn't make the tournament, then he should be gone. One thing is for sure, whoever Hart hires next, better do a lot better than Martin. Whether it's Bruce Pearl, Rick Pitino, George Bush, Bill Clinton, or whoever, I don't care. I just want to win again.

Question...if Martin is fired and Hart goes out and hires a mid major up and comer instead f Pearl, what're you gonna do?

Take await and see approach, the same thing I did when Martin was hired. Martin is a nice guy, but he's not the right fit for this program. Pearl was a perfect fit.

I think we can all agree WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF ZO DOESNT MAKE THE TOURNAMENT....and I agree that bringing CBP back seems a long shot but stranger things have happened. As far as he not succeeding if he comes back....his past is the only thing we have to go on...excluding his last season here (and I think he DEFINITELY deserves a past on that one....not even Red Aruback could have kept that team focused) he has been unbelievably successful at ever level...

Nope. Every coach at every level cheats in some way. They never confess.

Did the NCAA really need a confession? They had photo's and witnesses, lol. They hit him with the good ole lawyer rhetorical question and he stepped on his wee-wee and lied about it.

He invited a recruit and his family to a cookout KNOWING it was a violation and then not only asked them at the cookout to 'not say anything about it', but proceeded to ham it up for photo's so that there would be tangible evidence that a violation had occured? I'm sorry, but that pretty much makes him a first class idiot.

I'm a UT alumnus, long-time donor and football season ticketholder. I would view the rehiring of Bruce Pearl as an indication that Dave Hart "gets it" and has more control over the Athletic Department than I thought. I would also consider making the 10 hour round-trip drive to watch UT Basketball again, something I have not done since they fired BP.

Coaching Tennessee Basketball has always been challenging. Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl are the only coaches that have successfully cracked the code in my lifetime.

I would view it as the second coming of Dickey as AD!

Are Georgia's expectations to be in the top 25 every year? He's been rumored to that job?

If they aren't, they should be absolutely ashamed. Who doesn't want to win? Are you just trying to bump your posts?

Bruce took a school that was not consistently a Top-25 NCAA team and made them a Top-15 NCAA team. That expectation will come with his hiring, regardless of if he coaches at Alabama, Georgia, or Tennessee.

You're out of touch with reality if you think the expectations every AD sets are for his program to be top 25 and dancing every single year.

At some places, yes that's the expectation, but not at most.

Do you HONESTLY think that major D-1 schools aren't all strategizing for how to be Top-25 in Men's Basketball?

Do you HONESTLY think that a school wouldn't be hiring Bruce Pearl hoping for the exact same turnaround that he saw at Tennessee?

I'm gonna table this ridiculous discussion.

I'm going to re-raise the fact that Tennessee has had two coaches who were winners in terms of achieving year-in, year-out success with basketball. Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl.

Tennessee seemed to enjoy winning every year (weird… I know). The University seems to expect to win (weird… I know). Bruce Pearl is going to be available if there is a coaching change. And if he is available, he is a known "total package" at Tennessee.

But to your point, he did stay in Knoxville, is active in the community, continues to fundraise for local charities, calls Knoxville home, refers to how his family loves it here, etc. But I'm not sure he would welcome the idea of coaching again or trying to win at Tennessee.

It's a honest question. I see all this he better bring him back, he's the only option, etc. What's gonna happen if a move is made, Pearl isn't even considered, and we end up with Zo 2.0?

Fans will take the attitude of "prove you can win and then I will come to the games" and ticket sales will fall back to the Wade Houston days. Black curtains will once again be put up in the 300 level and Hart will be fired. OR

Bringback Pearl, sell 15,000+ season tix, excitement will be back in the arena, we'll sell more popcorn and hotdogs and our basketball program will be alive and well!

To me it's common sense to bring back Pearl regardless if Zo makes the tourney or not. The whole thing was blown out of proportion on the first place.

It's a no brainer. UT can't afford to take a chance on anyone else. This needs to be a business decision, and BP is good for business.
