Yes, your statement was dumb. To use how we performed in a tournament nobody cares about as evidence that it was better we didn't make the NCAAT is just silly.

Looking hindsight means looking back at the last 2 years, then I would have rathered taken whatever post season ban and kept Pearl, than to of had to endur the last 2 years of CCM basketball. That's what I said.

Ah, I did misread your post. I thought you meant not being eligible as missing the NCAAT. I didn't realize you meant not being eligible period. My apologies for the dumb remarks, I was dumb for not reading.

Although I still don't put a lot of stock into how we performed in the NIT, most bubble teams that end in the NIT never do a whole lot there because they simply don't care.

Bruce Pearl will coach again. It will be a pretty good gig but it won't be at Tennessee. He will succeed and his teams will consistently make the big dance. It will suck to sit back and watch while we wallow in our suckitude.

Weren't you the one complaining about people making absolute statements?

If I was in charge, I would have fired Martin after the home game against Texas A&M. In year 3, things should be going better. He has ran out of time in my book.

MACKIE

Having CCM finishing the season is 1,000,000 times better than having to endur one of his assistants as temp coach. Plus, it's never a good idea trying to sell a program to a potential new coach after firing one midway through a season.

You are not alone. As the poll on this thread shows a large majority of fans want him back. Only a small click on this board don't want him back.

So 123 people on a message board want him back and thats speaks for "a large majority"of the fan base? Not to mention there isn't a person here who can influence what the powers that be decide. The university wont hire him back just to avoid the negative PR because we have had a TON of over the past few years and I think thats a wise decision. Tennessee needs to get keep rebuilding their image as an athletic program and hiring Pearl would have a serious negative hit on our national perception.

It's a very large sample size albeit not scientific poll. 77% would leave me to believe a large majority of Vol fans would want him to return.

160 people is a "large sample size" to you? That's not even 10% of the average attendance this year. Barely even 1%. So, 0.77% of the fan base is "a large majority" nowadays?

The polls the major newspapers ran about the time he was fired showed around 87% of the people wanted him to stay.

If you dont think the overwhelming majority of UT fans want Bruce back, then you are kidding yourself.

Call me crazy but, if Tennessee plays against Bruce Pearl in a game I wouldn't be upset if we lost...

Do I think the loudest group wants him back, absolutely. However, loudness does not equal intelligence/majority. Does the real majority want to win? Yes, of course. But the majority (I would hope) would be intelligent to understand why he is not the best option and that others not named Pearl can win here.

As much as I would like to have Bruce back as our coach, I could never pull against the Big Orange. Thing to do is everyone needs to tell Hart when he comes by or calls is that we want Bruce back courtside where he belongs.

Keeping Martin is UT's self imposed ban.

I know there's a lot of frustration, and deservedly so, but this statement (not just you making it) is foolish IMO.

If it was as simple as, it's a postseason ban and that's it, then I agree. UCONN had a 1 year post season ban, didn't really hurt them much or set the program back. However, it wasn't only a postseason ban that would've been implemented.

Pearl had a 3 year showcase, his assistants were all handed showcauses of varying lengths, and this was with Tennessee dismissing them. If Tennessee decided to fight it, and keep the staff together, I would assume there would be more punishment.

Even without further punishment though, you're likely talking a multiple year postseason ban. A head coach that can't recruit for 3 years if I understand correctly, and a staff full of employees who for a varying time wouldn't have been allowed to recruit either.

It's all speculation as there's no way to know what would've happened, but I find it hard to imagine that we would be in a great position today if that was the route Hamilton elected to go.
