Maybe you are talking about the administration push to bring Fulmer back....but there was no way that much fan support to bring him back. You must have him confused with Gruden. That was the only push heard in 2012.

Gruden was the hot push on the internet and in talking circles but there was a sizable group growing that were saying even during the Gruden crap we should "bring Fulmer home". It grew even more after the Gruden thing went to crap, and Clay Travis was one of the ones leading the charge.

And again....I'm talking actual number of people. Saying "80%" of basketball fans would still equal probably less than 50% of football fans since there's so many more UT football fans than UT basketball fans.

The only Fulmer talk about bringing him back that I heard was all jokingly. After enduring the Dooley years we heard stuff like "hell, we should beg Fulmer to come back after having to endure Dooley". Most just taken lightly. Not many were serious. I know nobody that was adament about actually taking him back. I never heard people screaming after each Dooley home loss to bring back Fulmer. I hear Pearl's name mentioned DAILY. People were screaming to bring him back after the A&M game. "All over an fn bbq". Many chants.

Here's a thread in the football forum kinda describing Fulmer being the interest of some big boosters. You can read the reaction in just about ALL the thread. Volnation would have went in meltdown mode if Fulmer was even considered to be brought back.

I've tried to stay away, but I can't. Would someone like Ben Howland be nice, absolutely....

I just can't deny how awesome it would be to have Pearl back in the sideline in orange. I would finally be willing to spend $$$ again to drive 3.5 hours and buy tickets.

Do people realize during his tenure a large number of people enjoyed men's basketball more than football and we actually had achieved the #1 ranking in the country... In men's basketball.

No; you're absolutely the first person to point that out on this board. It's literally never been posted before.

I don't buy that. We had some bad articles written and missed a couple scholarships, but not destroyed. Kiffin caused more damage without being banned from his sports for 3 years.

No way. Bruce left 6 scholly players. None of any note. We also didn't know if we would even be post season eligible until half way through Martin's first season. Kiffin left us players and recruits and minor secondary violations . Dooley lost most of the good players like B Brown because he was loser.

Ok Ok, I've said my peace. I just got it all in at once rather than 3k+ post. I'll give you guys back your thread.

I am in favor of him returning.

You are not alone. As the poll on this thread shows a large majority of fans want him back. Only a small click on this board don't want him back.

The penalties were decided before Zo coached his first game.....we had talented players on our roster, just young.

I can't tell if you're serious? 2 out of the top 3 scorers for Martin's team this year are Pearl holdovers!? Jordy and Maymon are pretty good. Imagine where the season would be without those 2 guys. Tennessee would be lucky to win 14 games this year.

Because Martin developed them. Martin's first year, McRae and Maymon hadn't done a thing to be optimistic about.

Bruce Pearl will coach again. It will be a pretty good gig but it won't be at Tennessee. He will succeed and his teams will consistently make the big dance. It will suck to sit back and watch while we wallow in our suckitude.

This is silly. I guess CCM just flipped a switch and Maymon was able to score 30 pts and 20 rebounds against Memphis the first week of Martin's first year. He magically transformed Maymon into the beast he is with about 3 weeks of practice. Maymon was good but sat behind the coaches son that was a Senior. McRae's biggest issues was his attitude and between the ears.

Looking hindsight not being eligible would have been much better than the embarrassment of how we played in the 2 NIT appearances.
