The Atlanta Braves

18-19 was an underachieving year?
I was kind of struggling to see that too. Sure, the team spent the entire season ranked in the top 10, but an overtime loss to a good team in the Sweet 16 (which has basically served as the program's ceiling throughout it's history) didn't really feel like an underachievement.

#7 Preseason

No regular season conference title
No conference tournament title
Sweet 16 loss as a higher seed (yes I know Purdue was a good game and it was basically a toss up according to Vegas)

To me that’s an underachieving season despite an excellent regular season.

Or we are excited that he is recruiting at a level that we’ve never saw before? Look, next year is going to determine a lot, but I just don’t understand the hate. He isn’t Butch Jones or Derek freaking Dooley. Plus he is pretty damn good developer of talent.

I never said he was a Jones or Dooley. He’s like the third or fourth best basketball coach we’ve ever had here. Just the fanbase believes he’s a first rate coach when’s he not.

So because the fan base thinks he is first rate coach (what are the qualifications for this?) you don’t like him?

All fair points. If anything I'd still make the argument that they actually OVERachieved during the regular season. Like I said, the program has advanced past the Sweet 16 exactly one time in it's entire history. I just have a hard time getting upset about the men's team making a Sweet 16 run.

I never said I don’t like him. Some of his comments over the last year have made me roll my eyes but I don’t hate him. Just because I don’t think he’s first rate makes you guys think I hate him.

Dude had John Fulkerson balling like Hakeem Olajuwon

Last year we underachieved? Because the hype exceeded what he turned admiral schofield, grant williams, jordan bone, Kyle Alexander into? Nobody wanted those guys out of HS. He put them in the league.

He beat KY in rupp (becoming common now..) almost beat Kansas, almost beat Auburn, etc etc with what? A bunch of guys you can find in any gym in Memphis?

I have a dream. That one day VolNation will come to the agreement that Cuonzo Martin was a decent coach that did a decent job at Tennessee. Then we can move on.
Cuonzo was ten seconds away from an Elite Eight. I don't see your point. My point was that people *****ed about Cuonzo, yet he's done something in the last seven years that Barnes hasn't and most people think Martin sucks.

I'm not trying to be a jackass, but go watch a Texas game. Go see if they are well coached. Because they are not. Go look at the advanced stats. All the good things are based on athletes. Go look what Texas people are saying. They are glad he is gone. Go look at his recruiting, where 60% of his recruits since 2002 come from Texas. Dave Hart failed to look at the process.

Hmm. But yet praise Martin for not getting passed the sweet sixteen.

And underachieved in the postseason. Like he’s done his entire career.

And Barnes changes his recruiting profile when he got to Tennessee which I’ve praised plenty on the basketball forum.

And Cuonzo did fine here. Wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible. Rick’s done well here and I’ve said that plenty. He just isn’t good in the postseason.

Z, Who else you taking over him at a non blue blood?

Without doing any research off the top of my head?

Pearl. Beilein (yes I know he’s not coaching right now). Sean Miller and Scott Drew (yes they underachieve in the postseason too). Painter and Leonard Hamilton.

It’s one 40 minute game. Not a series. Ref doesn’t call the Edwards foul and Barnes is a better coach?

Maybe Rick shouldn’t have sat Grant in OT and not go down 5 to start and he would have won the game 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I know conference tourneys are random, but you guys realize Barnes hasn’t won a conference title since 1994?

But you realize the lunacy of if the Edwards foul call isn’t made we win the game and by your measure Barnes is an infinitely better coach?

I’ll give you Bruce.

What has Hamilton done besides not age? Hell he’s had some dudes and not done much with it

I’m not arguing it makes him an infinitely better coach if he wins that game. I never said anything like that.
