When you gather together a group of Renaissance gentlemen such as ourselves, the colloquy inevitably expands to include our entire array of interests and expertise. It can be frustrating for the lesser lights in the room, unfortunately.

Experienced my first somewhat legit Oktoberfest this weekend. May be the closest thing to heaven on Earth.

Friend of mine's been to Munich about five times for Oktoberfest. I've never been able to make the trip. If I never get over there for it, it's one of the ten things I'll be angry about on my deathbed.

Yeah, unfortunately I wasn't actually in Germany. I went to the one in Cincinnati, the second largest only to Munich I believe. There is a huge German population and it's known to be pretty authentic. Never been surrounded by so much good beer and amazing food.

So........um............Fredi said that Freddy Garcia is a "definite" candidate to start game 4 of the NLDS............

Yeah, that's definitely more than just semi-legit. The best I've done is about two tiers below that and even that was fantastic.

Munich is supposed to be worth the trip, even though the expense and the crowd and the hassle is every bit as bad as you'd expect it to be.

When I was a student at UT, I had the pleasure of going to a few Knoxville Cherokee games. Needless to say, I missed classes the next day. Also went to a Philly/Chicago games around the same time. The crowd in Chicago was as entertaining as the game.

Hockey is a sport that's great to watch live, but not so much on TV. I'm too old. I have a hard time following the puck.

When the one and only George Takei serves as Grand Marshal AND leads the crowd in a round of the chicken dance, you know it's legit.

HD on huge screens at home has really helped out with the "hockey sucks on TV" problem, although of course it's still nothing like being there. The key is still to watch the players rather than the puck.

The hockey playoffs make up for everything, though. Might be the best thing in sports.

Fredi likes the 20 innings he's seen from Garcia. If anything supposedly happened before that and Fredi didn't see it, Fredi doesn't believe in it.
