Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I guess they have to get use to that 10” goal, using a round bouncy ball, and playing five on five.

Correct. If you're a simpleton and ignore things like how moving screens, touch fouls, and traveling are interpreted by the refs. Never mind those silly markings on the court as well. Also speaking that different language shouldn't be a problem.

In things I didn’t expect to hear...

VQ hinting/teasing Tennessee is looking to add a good player that would have to sit out a year.

Let the speculation begin.

Is Barnes keenly aware that the NCAA is unexpectedly going to increase scholarship limits to 15, or something? Where are we going to get the spots?

I laffed at 10” rim.

Yeah, doesn't make much sense. The one cycle that they are finally in the mix with a lot of highly rated kids, they potentially limit spots with transfers and developmental types.

What exactly was said? I'm wondering what they mean by "good player" in terms of impact. Wide range of interpretations there.

So next year's roster:

Forwards: 3 on Scholarship Returning
Brock Jancek (WO)
Zach Kent
D.J. Burns
John Fulkerson

Guards: 4 on Scholarship Returning
Yves Pons
Lamonte Turner
Jacob Fleschman (WO)
Jalen Johnson
Jordan Bowden

Incoming: 5 Scholarships
Josiah-Jordan James (Guard)
Drew Pember (Forward)
Davonte Gaines (Forward)
Olivier Robinson-Nkamhoua (Forward)
Uros Plavsic (Center)

That's 12 on Scholarship next season the limit is 13. Bold = potentially gone by 2020 class based on graduation. Technically Jalen Johnson, John Fulkerson both could graduate after this season both will likely graduate as RS-Juniors and could leave or grad transfer.

So without knowing who from 2019 stays for 2020 and still having 1 spot, I don't see any reason not to snag another guy for this class. Even if he sits a year would be worth it, especially if a top 100 talent. You know 2020 you'll have at least 2 spots freeing up, could be more if James leaves for the draft or if anyone transfers out (Kent & Gaines would be my lead candidates to transfer after 2019 right now).

2019 will see a slight dip in performance for sure. 2020 class and moving forward I expect the new 5 million dollar man to focus on 4 & 5 star talent he spent the first 4 years here building the foundation to show he can develop talent, and if you're a 4 & 5 star guy with NBA aspirations why wouldn't you want to go to a coach who can point to the 2019 NBA draft and showcase at least 2 3 stars he helped get drafted (hopefully 3 Vols get drafted)
