Tennessee Softball 2025

Not ugly at all. When she committed (as a walk-on, technically), the roster limit proposed in the house settlement weren’t a thing. From what I understand from multiple people, Tennessee was completely honest with her and other players in the next two classes about the process and what the roster numbers looked like. Particularly for players were coming in on academic money.

You can only tell someone so many times that if walk-ons are not allowed, you will not have a spot.
If you let a kid commit and pull the offer, it’s ugly. Not arguing that they weren’t honest with the player upfront, just taking the commit regardless of title of walk-on or scholarship. Coaches have a good idea ahead of time of what’s in the works as far as proposals. The proposed roster increase (baseball/softball) has been known since 2022, that a change was potentially coming.

Good to see Karen incorporating Marc still as this was another one of his girls.

The move to the Big Ten had to hurt, too.

“Hey girls, let’s get pumped for that trip from warm SoCal to the Upper Midwest in early April.”
I’m sure it didn’t help. One of my daughters old CA teammates plays for UCLA, well off, CA kid with no desire to leave. I’m always intrigued by the CA schools not being better even before NIL based on the volume of quality players they produce yearly. Many of the SoCal girls want the SEC/ACC experience as well as the notoriety they can’t get in LA is what I was told why they leave.

Canady is elite. But when a team has seen you as much as Texas has its only a matter of time before they figure you out

Tech is in a similar spot as the LVs. Both need a viable #2. And both need another bat or two.

All of you losing your mind because White didn’t go with Kavan in Game Two were wrong and this is why.

Was just talking to a friend and he says he thought Tech should’ve left Canady in the game. Thoughts?

I don’t think it mattered either way.

Texas was the better team. Pitching was close with a slight nod to Tech. Hitting tilted heavily in Texas’ favor. IMO.

California is a Professional sports State. Fans care more about Dodgers. Lakers, Warriors and so on than College Sports. Nobody wants to play in a park with few fans.

Yes, that was stated by a coach they can go to games and not be recognized, back page news etc. . Some want that but others opt to be recognized.

How do you feel about Easton Stadium? I’ve just always thought for one of the most storied programs their stadium is really subpar and meh. Not a place to attract top recruits IMO.

Small, but love the UCLA campus, location and can’t beat the weather. From what I recall (2019), it sits on a hill but has room to expand

Love the campus as well, but that stadium is just small and unattractive. It looks so much worse on tv too.
Pretty land locked and bad parking. They could easily do what Tennessee did with the porch as they have the open space behind the OF wall.

The irony is that UCLA has more NCs than any other school and they really were pioneers of college softball. The success of UCLA and Arizona (and the Pac-12 as a whole) is what forced the rest of the country to step up. But it's so much more popular now in places like the Big 12 and SEC (obviously some of those former Pac-12 schools are now part of the Big 12). You're correct in that LA is more about the Lakers and Dodgers, although USC and UCLA have no issue getting fans to come for CFB games.

A program like UCLA having that stadium is criminal. But it's up against Sunset Blvd and not a lot of space to expand the stadium. To get a better stadium, they would probably have to build an entirely new one in a different location, although like Majors said they could add outfield seats.

Despite their poor facilities, UCLA will always recruit well because of their history + they have so many elite recruits nearby.

Not every player that was committed signed scholarship papers because they weren’t necessarily going to be on an athletic scholarship. With the House settlement, walk-ons aren’t a thing anymore, so a lot of players around the country have been in limbo. The conversation was had long ago that spots were going to be tight, but some players and their families elected to see how the numbers worked out rather than pursuing something else earlier.
I would have to see the specific language on the walk-ons since that was what the hold up was over and the agreement to phase them out not just cut them off.

White should be fined and FIRED. Pathetic person. This is why Texas doesn't deserve this. He is a POS!!!!
That video was three years ago and it later came out that some of the things that were being said to him by fans that proceeded his actions were equally if not more disgusting.

The agreement was that no one would lose their current roster spot, but it only applied to sports where the active roster was the same size as the current squad size, which does not include softball. In softball, the active roster is only 22 for conference and postseason events, so with the new roster limit of 25 exceeding that, walk-ons were not grandfathered in beyond the 25. Same for baseball

Head coach has to show some restraint. Things get yelled at from the fans to coaches of all sports
