Texas Tech is supposedly the Evil Empire now.. people complained when players never got payed and Saban cheated his way to 7 National Championship by paying players under the table... Now that players can get paid fans get butthurt because players choose money over loyalty... Its a no win situation for the College kids....Evil?
Truth. I do not understand why some on here accuse other programs of cheating and tampering when we simply got outbid for a player. Anybody who thinks UT's sports programs are totally clean is whistling in the dark.Texas Tech is supposedly the Evil Empire now.. people complained when players never got payed and Saban cheated his way to 7 National Championship by paying players under the table... Does Texas Tech tamper? Most definitely just like 98% of the other P4 schools. Morals have went out the window but not at Tennessee, we are Mother Teresa of College sports.![]()
No contact rule during season. Tech should've got in trouble for that not for their offer.Truth. Went a lot further than that with Texas Tech. They were signing the papers before the season was finished. They held them until the portal opened. Then the played committed.Plenty of teams communicate with players "handlers" cough cough during the season...
Making a comment going thru handshake line is not forbidden...

Sure, plenty of schools tamper by making known through third parties that they would be interested in a player if they went in the portal or they have a need at a players position, etc. i’m sure there are even ranges of compensation thrown out in some of those conversations.Texas Tech is supposedly the Evil Empire now.. people complained when players never got payed and Saban cheated his way to 7 National Championship by paying players under the table... The rules will NEVER be enforced, so if Texas Tech has an advantage doing what they do then other schools will begin doing the same... Except for us, morals are more important to us in this dog eat dog era of NIL....Sure, plenty of schools tamper by making known through third parties that they would be interested in a player if they went in the portal or they have a need at a players position, etc. i’m sure there are even ranges of compensation thrown out in some of those conversations.
Texas Tech is the only school I’m aware of that reaches out to players in the middle of the season with large financial packages for the next year that require the players or their parents to provide a firm answer and a signature right away. That is what has happened in several cases with them. I’m not saying that Tennessee would have been able to match what they offered Taylor, or Florida would have been able to match for Mia Williams, or UCLA with Terry or anyone else. But having the opportunity to at least have a conversation to keep a player that should, in theory, have not have already negotiated with another team is something the rules should protect. What I also know is that trying to build your roster in March and April of the previous year when those athletes still have long seasons ahead with their current team is wrong. It was wrong last year, and it’s wrong this year as they’ve spent April and May trying to do the same thing to line up pitching to replace Canady. Some say they already have her replacement lined up. We will see.
Nobody in the game has a problem with softball players making significant amount of money. I think everyone agrees having that opportunity is great for them. If somebody wants to buy the most expensive roster they can, good for them. All anyone in the game is asking for is to do it the right way within the existing rules for contact. Don’t try to convince someone they aren’t happy where they are now just because you stand ready to offer them money. Don’t require that they ghost their current school. Don’t require that they tell their current school everything is fine and then blindside them by going in the portal the day after having an exit meeting where you received your off-season plan and signed up for classes and slots to work camp.
Perhaps, but I doubt a lot of schools are getting the donor investment to make offers 100k over value two months before the season is over. It’s not happening like that in other sports, either. The rules will NEVER be enforced, so if Texas Tech has an advantage doing what they do then other schools will begin doing the same... They play dirty. They know it and don't care. But don't complain like a columnist with the Lubbock A-J did recently about getting frozen out of marquee non-conference matchups, premier tournaments, etc. Everyone else isn't entirely powerless and good for them using to it "punish" Tech. You can't try and poach players from Univ of Texas and then complain and cry foul when they won't schedule you.
