Not addressed for me but my understanding is Tech had a two fold sneaky strategy with some individuals (not all) after Canady...

1) They scouted players but then looked deeper for disgruntled parents in their current situations either through word of mouth or social media postings...hellooo Mia Williams and Taylor Pannell. These folks were easy pickings when presented with the idea of a "super team". Then came the check which was the icing and cherry on top which leads to #2...

2) The dollar values were inflated to leave no doubt--$100K/$200K is f*** you money to Cody Campbell. Which goes to DeerPark's comment about needing a decision right away. The money offered was intended to not leave much to think about to avoid a long drawn out process. No time to tell teammates, current coaches who might have changed the direction (or contacted the NCAA pre-WCWS). So I don't know if that happens in other sports or not but because Tech is literally the only school doing it in softball, they needed values to shock the conscience so that there was no thinking about it or deliberation.

None of my clients or contacts in the college sports world are aware of any other situations where representatives of a school or collective have presented contracts to athletes at another school with multiple months remaining in the current season. I can't swear that it isn't happening anywhere else, but it appears to be unique to them. Particularly with the money involved and the stipulation that they sign right then without talking to their current school. They also seem to target players that do not have professional representation, because real agents wouldn't allow that.

I mean you can probably count the number of softball players with agents on two hands wouldn't you think or am I mistaken?

Texas Tech is the only school I’m aware of that reaches out to players in the middle of the season with large financial packages for the next year that require the players or their parents to provide a firm answer and a signature right away. That is what has happened in several cases with them. I’m not saying that Tennessee would have been able to match what they offered Taylor, or Florida would have been able to match for Mia Williams, or UCLA with Terry or anyone else. But having the opportunity to at least have a conversation to keep a player that should, in theory, have not have already negotiated with another team is something the rules should protect. What I also know is that trying to build your roster in March and April of the previous year when those athletes still have long seasons ahead with their current team is wrong. It was wrong last year, and it’s wrong this year as they’ve spent April and May trying to do the same thing to line up pitching to replace Canady. Some say they already have her replacement lined up. We will see.

Nobody in the game has a problem with softball players making significant amount of money. I think everyone agrees having that opportunity is great for them. If somebody wants to buy the most expensive roster they can, good for them. All anyone in the game is asking for is to do it the right way within the existing rules for contact. Don’t try to convince someone they aren’t happy where they are now just because you stand ready to offer them money. Don’t require that they ghost their current school. Don’t require that they tell their current school everything is fine and then blindside them by going in the portal the day after having an exit meeting where you received your off-season plan and signed up for classes and slots to work camp.

The only way to stop this is to penalize the school the player or both. It is not right AT ALL.

If a player is going to do this, they just need to leave when they do it, scholarships and other NIL associated with the school they are at cancelled. That is what would happen with a real job.

For Mia and Taylor believed they picked up the phone and called GA Impact Lewis to gauge interest. Both Gerry and his daughter have deep connections to the program and can bypass investigating.

Oh no, there are dozens, if not hundreds that have agents on some level. They don’t all have a full-time major agency like Pickens does, but there is a set of agencies that are focusing on brand building for athletes in sports like baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, etc. also represent the middle tier athletes in women’s basketball, even mid major type players in men’s basketball. There’s a lot more organization that has popped up in the last couple of years.

I was thinking of major agencies but fascinating on the agencies for the other sports.

I dont actively follow them but I got a second graduate degree from Texas a few years ago so this is fantastic lol. Hook em

Yes she is. My daughter is a young pitcher and, of course, idolizes KP. During the game last night she asked if I thought Kavan is better than KP, to which I replied yes. She was shocked I would say that, but in big moments Kavan has better control and not as predictable. Then after striking out the last two hitters to close out the natty she reluctantly agreed. Kavan didn't blast it by Tech's best hitters, she kept them off balance (like what happened to us). Just an incredibly clutch performance. I also don't think KP got back to top form since her injury, so there's that, too.

BTW, my top four are Kavan, KP, Jordy, Canady.

Kavan is methodical in her pitching. With her ability to hit the corners, elevate, lower and change speeds makes her the best pitcher in the game today. Love KP and what she did for Tennessee, and for little girls. But like Bahl and Canady once teams figured you out you lost the intimidation factor.

The new law/bill that will be voted on in the Senate ( Save College Sports ) will have provisions in it for guardrails for NIL,transfers ,agent registration and restraints (Agent provisions handled similarly to NFL ) There was a Senate hearing on this yesterday on C-Span 2 which I watched in its entirety which has bipartisan support .After it passes the Senate it will be sent to House for them to consider.I am hopeful that this bill will pass both the House /Senate and become law .....it has anti-trust provision which should avoid law suits and provides the following : 5 years by everyone to compete in all sports with one transfer without penalty and any 2nd transfer the athlete would have to sit out a year,Revenue allocations,NIL transparency ,etc.This will not be perfect but is a quantum leap to bring the Wid,Wild West in College Sports under control ....has specific provisions for women's Sports and the lesser sports like track so Olympics prep Sports can continue .

I doubt there was that much of a concerted effort to dig into disgruntled parents. The simplest answer is they looked for the best players on the best teams and then made them offers (#2) as you posted. Incredibly smart in the current age of sports and it's gotten them to two straight title series. If I win the lottery, you better believe I'm buying Karen a super team.

My hope and belief is that Sage will be in that group next year. In fact, she'd be in it now except that she doesn't have multiple years of dominance.
