Taking a Look at #53

sure, we are a mediocre SEC team who has been terrible for a Decade. If you think talent like Jumper would have seen the field in the 90s and early 2000s you're lying to yourself

Oh, you got fooled by the pictures over in that other thread, didn't you?

Look, us old people are supposed to be nostalgic. And to an extent, I guess I am.

But I'm not convinced there was any more talent on those late-90s teams than we have on Team 121 today.

Only thing I'm sure of is that there's no college football talent-judging genius in VolNation.com. Just a lot of folks who think they are.

For all the rest, time will tell.

I think he did a fairly decent job for us last year when he was thrown into the role. Have do doubt that he will do what we need him to in this game. If this injury goes into the Florida game, then we might be in trouble due to lack of speed and quickness. He is a good option and thankful we have an option like him who knows the defense and can line up the young kids properly. The MLB position is 40%athletic ability and 60%intelligence IMO.

yeah, last year when he was put in, i had a lot of trepidation given how he did in 15...he wasn't very good then. and he had some issues last year too.

but he made some plays last season that i didn't think he was capable of making. kind of a mixed bag, and a lot depends on how teams try to attack the LB's.

there were match ups that he just wasn't good against, and there were situations he was perfect for.

i'd expect more of that this year too, with hopefully a CJ that may be a little better physically.

mentally...he's got it. physically there is a drop off, and we'll have to take a few lumps i'm sure. but i expect he'll play well for the most part, and like you, he'll get the guys lined up, and put people in the right spot to make the play they're supposed to.

Anyone who thinks redheads are soft has never been to the gym with one, or dated one...LOL

Just a friendly reminder, but CJ had a good game against the Gators last year.

After 2 years and you need a closer look? I'm just wanting him to be serviceable at a higher lever than in the past. Don't fall for the same hype from the coaches we've heard the past two seasons. Don't expect him to make 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team all SEC.

Now go prove me wrong Colton.

IF we've learned anything from last year...or the year before..., it's that coaches WILL run it at him. I think Jumper is a good player, serviceable in all aspects as a SEC MLB....If he had quicker feet/hips I think he'd be an All-SEC type LB with NFL potential...to be honest though, I think he reached his peak about his sophomore year...the fact that we havent really found anyone at MLB to challenge him, particularly from a talent/speed standpoint, is really disappointing...IMO that's an issue with recruiting, specifically from the head ball coach.

I'm not trying to run the guy down, he did make a couple of good tackles, but you could definitely see his lack of speed hurt a lot of times. He plays hard and knows the defense, give me a guy like that any day.

As long as the DL stays disciplined and takes care of their gaps, Jumper will do fine for the runs between the tackles. We will play a 4-3. It's critical the will and sam LBs take care of the off tackle runs. The safeties will also have a huge role in supporting the LBs. We'll be fine. There'll be instances where our discipline breaks down, but I think it will few and far between.

agreed. but i don't know that it's CBJ's fault, on the recruiting, necessarily. but i'll be the first to admit that overall the LB recruiting in general has not matched some of the other positions we've recruited at a high level...and that mainly goes on Thig.

we've had really good MLB's each of the last 4 years. all 4 have found ways off the field. AJ, JRM and DK....none of them could finish a season.

and we have at least two really good FRESHMEN in the wings, both will probably get PT this season. Bituli can/should be that guy...and isn't i guess yet....but that may also be because they want him to play outside where he can be more of a factor athletically, and with some experience. then you go with Jumper in the middle, ignot and Sapp on the other side...and then you'll see a lot of nickel with Gaulden and MA.....

it was speculated earl on that the starting three may be DK in the middle and DB and QS on the outside....with Jumper, Ried and Ingot backing them up respectively.

if you take DK out, Jumper is in, the rest stays the same.

who friggin' knows. i'm ready to find out on Monday.:eek:lol:

I think if he had an epic beard, like Tormund, people might change their mind about him.
