Support butch jones

People may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.

Support Butch he didn't lose the game, poor execution lost us that game. Should we have given Kelly the ball on the 1, yes, but we also should have not had penalties in the red zone. We shouldn't have shanked a punt to give them field possession. We shouldn't have let a WR run past us.

The program is in the best shape it has been in since 2006. Stay the course and support Butch.

I used to agree, but mediocrity is going to bring in more mediocrity in the form of recruiting. Recruits don't want to come for 9 wins. Butch has been able to sell his process, and building for the future for the last 5 years, but that doesn't hold water anymore. Selling is easy when improvement is being shown, but much more difficult when there's no sign of promise for the future. A great coach could come in and get quality wins from our current talent levels, and maybe after a 1 year lull in recruiting, could bring in great classes again after proving his ability to coach.

They aren't awful. They aren't really good either. It's definitely a game that was very winnable

Without Scarlett and Calloway, they're a 6-6 football team. By definition, that's awful IMO. They have no depth, a moron on the sidelines, and a first half defense.

FL probably feels a lot like we did after the GA game last year.

at some point, reality will hit. i don't think they're as bad as that 4-8 team that beat us a few years ago.

but that's not an SEC championship caliber football team.

this is GA's division to lose today.

All I can tell you is that I'm very close to joining the " time is up " crowd. CBJ is in the put up or shut up years of his coaching career.

Give it the season, let's see what happens. We will lose to Bama, no doubt. We will most likely lose another to somebody, that's 3 losses. I think only a 3 loss regular season and CBJ has done a fine job. If he loses 4, he most likely should be retained to see what he can do next year. He loses 5? All bets are off. He could be a goner. This is UT after all.

It's year 5, vsf. Year. Five. You'd kick that can farther down the road thinking he needs a sixth year to show improvement?

We'll let the season play out and see if they are 6-6. I would be surprised to see that

He loses 4, I'm giving him one more year to put us in the sec championship game. I'm telling him up front that is my expectation. Yes, I give him one more year

We can name 1000 reasons we lost Saturday. 2-3 things could have gone different and we would have won. I'd still be off the Butch train.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss, but you have to study the reason behind those wins and losses.

We looked horrible last year at SC and with Vandy. A team the beats Florida and Georgia should beat those teams too.

This year is more of the same blunders. We lost to GT everywhere but the scoreboard. We should have beat Florida.

It's ugly football right now and there is no excuse beyond coaching. This staff can recruit, but can't seem to get them coached up.

I feel bad for these players. They need a leader on the team and a leader in the coaches and I've not seen one emerge for either yet.

If we don't end up 9-3 or 10-2 we'd be crazy to keep this staff. And if we do, we'd be crazy to not still consider some changes.

The roster is deeper now than it's been in a while and we still can't seem to get over the hump.

I don't expect a saban type team, but this talent in a week east division should have had us 10-2 the last 2 years and 11-1 this year. Maybe better.

End of rant.

As someone with great passion for the university and the football program, I cannot, in good conscience, continue to support CBJ.

It's time for him to go.

No.

I'm not gonna call people names or belittle them for still supporting Jones or wanting him fired today, that your own personal choice.
As for me,I have supported him and the players 100% but my faith is shaken somewhat after Saturday. There does seem to be a pattern showing of questionable playcalling and player execution.
I'm gonna see how the next few SEC games play out to see if things can change. I really hope they can.

This 100 percent bull crap !!!!

Funny people said the same damn thing about Dooley

They did? Who?

Dooley
2010 6-7
2011 5-7
2012 5-7

Jones
2013 5-7
2014 7-6 Bowl Win
2015 9-4 Bowl Win
2016 9-4 Bowl Win

I think this season we wait this out and see. Our schedule sets up nicely moving forward. We have been competitive in every game last season and this season w/ exception of Alabama last year. Never felt there wasn't a way for us to win.

9/23 UMASS - 99% Win probablity
9/30 UGA @ Home and they play MState week before
10/7 BYE
10/14 USCjr @ Home - Just lost #1 Receiver. Just lost to UK. Don't think we lose this.
10/21 Alabubba - 1% Chance of Win, but who can beat them? Clemson?
10/28 @ Kentucky
11/4 S Miss - Might be a game gives us trouble. Think we squeak out a win against someone we should dominate.
11/11 Missouri - Lost to Purdue.. Lost to USCjr.
11/19 LSU - Got got waxed by MState - not impressed. MState ran all over them.
11/25 Vandy - not impressed with last win

So say we beat UMASS, USCjr, KY, SMiss. Split UGA and LSU. Alabama we know will be a loss barring a miracle. This brings us to 9-3 heading into bowl game. Say we win our bowl game. 10-3.. Firable? don't think so. Think we also hold onto our top 10 recruiting class.

This one sentence says all that needs to be said about whether Butch is the man to get us to the top

When you have to have your schedule "set up nicely" for your coach to win, that coach needs to hit the road

I'm residing up here on the Va. border and Blacksburg is right up the road. Pretty close to the same distance away as Knoxville. Grew up a Vol but have always kept up with Va. Tech. After UT dusted 'em last year they went on to have a dang good season and played Clemson real well in the ACC championship game. The big difference is Fuentes was in his 1st year and Tech had a jr. college transfer as a starting QB. I have to think that CBJ's annual salary is higher than that of Fuentes.

Then in the off-season news comes out that CBJ has hired Sexton as an agent. Must plan on doing some heavy-duty negotiating. I wonder if Sexton has ever negotiated re-imbursing a university in part ? I'm for letting CBJ hang around this season because the players are loyal to him and I think they are giving their all. There's enough blame for Sat.'s mistakes to spread around to every one, players and coaches. And it was mentioned previously several times in this thread, most of us didn't have that high of expectations for this team going into this season. I don't know if a poll was conducted or not but I feel the consensus would have us going 8-4.
We have new QB and RB with little experience and a lot of receivers that haven't hardly played at all and this is the SEC. Even the mediocre teams in this conference can and will step it up a notch or two on any given Sat. and it's best to bring your A game every week.

yeah, he can. but unfortunately, after that, there's still plenty of opportunities to lose it again.

this will be a week to week deal unfortunately.

as for the rest,i agree, though i don't know that i'd call yesterday an issue of "not going for the jugular" as much as i would an issue of "not understanding and using the flow of the game". FL's offense was doing nothing, and we could have run kelly 40 times, and played keep away and won by 14. inexplicably, in a 3 point game we played like we were down 10...and made the kind of mistakes a desperate team makes.

Its no longer about one game to save or lose his job for me.
It was evident when he took the job it was about him being able to recruit at an elite level and "learn on the job" how to coach at this level. Several staff changes and 4+ years later you have a roster capable of winning every game (less Bama) on the schedule with an 8 win coach. And the same could be said for last year. Jones has positive traits as a recruiter and program manager but when everybody else has that and a better coach (which enough do) you lose on Saturday.

It would be very Butch to beat UGA in 2 weeks and even LSU (later) and then drop 2 out UK, Vandy, and SC.
Then you re just back where you started.

The UF game makes even less sense 2 days later.

Execution was poor, but coaching cost us this game period. That said, everyone loses at least 1 game every year they shouldn't (even bama). Our fans want perfection and the only coach who has sustained anything close to it is Saban. It's an unrealistic expectation.

we dont want perfection, we just want to win the SEC east during a time when every other team in the division is terrible...

I agree with all of this. Just at it relates to this season... Its going to be week to week with the ebb and flow of the fan base and the resulting reactions.

Remember...I would have fired him after last year's Vandy game 😉

I am going to laugh my butt off in a couple of years when Butch pulls a Pearl and goes to another SEC school... Texas A+M maybe... and comes back to Knoxville and beats the crap out of us....
