People may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.
Support Butch he didn't lose the game, poor execution lost us that game. Should we have given Kelly the ball on the 1, yes, but we also should have not had penalties in the red zone. We shouldn't have shanked a punt to give them field possession. We shouldn't have let a WR run past us.
The program is in the best shape it has been in since 2006. Stay the course and support Butch.
Being a free country tough. Anybody can post whatever they feel or think, no matter the validity of their argument. Based on the time CBJ has been coaching at UT we have had an improving record against one of the toughest schedules in NCAA. He has recruited as well as anyone but Meyer and Saban. We have not been in a lot of player off campus issues or major NCAA violations. Agree that no coach is perfect. Last year was an injury anomaly that is carrying over to this year. GT and UF were close games with near equally talented teams. I'm going to stick with Butch and agree with the OP that a change would set us back 5 or more years. It is a shame we can't require posters to tell the truth about their true colors.
Poor Execution.....coaching disciplinePeople may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.

There is enough talent that a suitable interim could rally us and get us back in the hunt. I think we can all agree Florida is likely not winning the East.
Butch ain't the one.
I think for most it's not THAT we lost, as much as HOW we lost. We see the same issues continuing, now 5 years in. They can longer be blamed on personnel. It has to fall on the shoulder of the highly paid professional coach at some point.
I would almost bet money that is why he hired Sexton

One year I believe. We actually have better talent than they did in Saban's first year. Someone with good to great coaching ability could come in here and win 10 to 11 games by year 2. I have no doubts about that.

No it won't. A bad hire to replace him might. But to fire a coach that doesn't get the job done doesn't "set you back". In fact, the thing CERTAIN to set the program back is if Jones doesn't turn it around to finish better than 8-4... and is kept. You send a clear message to recruits that you simply don't care about winning or coaching competence.People may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.
Mistakes lost the game. So did Jones' failure to adequately sign and develop WR and LB depth. So did his decision to bring Lawson with him from the mid-majors. So did 1000's of other decisions big and small that ultimately fall directly at the feet of the HC.Support Butch he didn't lose the game, poor execution lost us that game.
Yes. And UT shouldn't be depending on Fr and Sophs at WR in Jones' year 5. He shouldn't have underclassmen playing at LB and hoping they'll be better than he expects. For that matter, do the things they use for evaluation in practice translate to game performance? It seems that Bituli would have still been buried in the depth chart if not for some injuries.... if your evaluations are designed to put the best players on the field then how on earth was he EVER behind Jumper?Should we have given Kelly the ball on the 1, yes, but we also should have not had penalties in the red zone. I'm willing to give him his final exam. I'm willing to see if he can correct the problems with these players and this team. I'm willing to see what he does with the other 3 quality football teams on the schedule. I'm willing to see if he chokes again against one of the little sisters. I'm willing to see if he can finally NOT be outcoached by Mason and Muschamp. The program is in the best shape it has been in since 2006. Stay the course and support Butch.
VOLS Report Card on Flordiay 24x7sports
Coaching
This is a game Tennessee wins with better coaching and better execution. The Vols simply made too many mistakes and threw away too many missed opportunities to win a game that was there for the taking. Some of the missed opportunities, like a drop here or a poor throw there, were on the players, but in other cases it was questionable playcalling and general stubbornness in sticking with the shotgun in short-yardage situations. Electing not to get John Kelly or Ty Chandler more involved in red-zone short-yardage situations was a head-scratcher. Kelly was the best player on the field on Saturday, but the Vols oddly opted not to let him finish drives for them. Defensively the Vols were passive early in the game and the Gators simply took what they were given, but Tennessee largely was in control of Florida's struggling offense, which managed just 191 yards through three quarters. The big catastrophic plays continue to haunt the Vols, though, and multiple missed tackles were killers when the Vols needed a stop down 13-10 in the fourth quarter. The Gators really only had one sustained drive (the first one) and needed just 32 and 44 yards on two drives resulting in 10 points. Tennessee started three drives in Florida territory and scored three points on those possessions. Three red-zone trips netted three points. The Vols had first-and-5 at the Florida 12-yard line, first-and-goal twice at the 1 and third-and-2 at the 16. Penalties and not running the ball with Kelly ruined those opportunities. As for the final play, it simply can't happen whether you have four defenders standing at the goal line guarding against a throw to the end zone or just two safeties deep guarding against the potential for a completion long enough to set up a long field goal try. The game also shouldn't have come down to that play, but Tennessee was too wasteful and too undisciplined in all facets of a game that was there for the taking, and that begins and ends with the coaching staff. An inexplicable loss. GRADE: F
