Support butch jones

Being a free country tough. Anybody can post whatever they feel or think, no matter the validity of their argument. Based on the time CBJ has been coaching at UT we have had an improving record against one of the toughest schedules in NCAA. He has recruited as well as anyone but Meyer and Saban. We have not been in a lot of player off campus issues or major NCAA violations. Agree that no coach is perfect. Last year was an injury anomaly that is carrying over to this year. GT and UF were close games with near equally talented teams. I'm going to stick with Butch and agree with the OP that a change would set us back 5 or more years. It is a shame we can't require posters to tell the truth about their true colors.

I agree, actually. I say we can Butch this week, promote a suitable interim, and take Chip Kelly for the biggest porterhouse one can find.

I wouldn't argue with that.

I think back to '92. The situation was obviously a little different, but a mid season coaching change, on a stocked team, didn't work out too badly for us.

People may not like this post, but firing Butch Jones will set us back another 5+ years.

Support Butch he didn't lose the game, poor execution lost us that game. Should we have given Kelly the ball on the 1, yes, but we also should have not had penalties in the red zone. We shouldn't have shanked a punt to give them field possession. We shouldn't have let a WR run past us.

The program is in the best shape it has been in since 2006. Stay the course and support Butch.

So another five years of mediocrity before we make a move? 👍

firing butch won't set us back 5+yrs. the cupboard is stocked, lets get somebody in here that can actually coach a football game. I seriously doubt the "chart" said to not run the ball any time you were inside the 10 yard line. football 101.... run the dang ball...

The majority of this board agreed we would lose between 3 and 5 games this year. We have lost 1 game, not 5. Let's see what happens with GA game and with the rest of the season. After all, most expected some losses this year. A loss to Florida and everybody has went nuts.

Fifth year, fielding a team that consists of multiple VERY high recruiting classes. They looked inept. Again.

It's on Butch. One can no longer reasonably turn a blind eye to such things.

I supported him with a "wait 'n see" attitude. IMHO, the time has come to call it what it is.

I can no longer support Butch Jones. I have been pulling for him since day one. However, Orange Crush hit the nail on the head. On paper, we should stack up with anybody, Alabama included. The classes we have assembled in recent years should allow us to beat anybody on any day. No more excuses of lack of depth or whatever. Botch Jones has given away multiple wins against Florida, Oklahoma, Vandy, South Carolina and others. Thank you Botch for getting us back to respectability but it's over.

I think for most it's not THAT we lost, as much as HOW we lost. We see the same issues continuing, now 5 years in. They can longer be blamed on personnel. It has to fall on the shoulder of the highly paid professional coach at some point.

It is simply not true that moving on from a limited coach sets you back. You make whatever moves are necessary, then when you have the right guy, have these sorts of conversations.

It's not going to get better. It's not. Five years with one guy is plenty for us to know.

I'll support his efforts to find another job. I'll even support him by helping load the truck.

I'll then thank him for the rebuild, and the recruiting...and support him leaving East Tennessee.

All the best in your new endeavours coach.

In my opinion and others, he wants out of UT

He wanted out last year

It is time for him to get out of Knoxville. And the sooner the better. I gave my all until it ran dry. This is not over one game,it's 4+ years of stupid over and over again.

I was about to say this looks like the exact same thread the "Support Dooley" crowd had...Everyone who supported him down the stretch all should've had lobotomies.

I don't disagree....he knows it's too big, but something won't allow him to let go. Maybe it's the fact that his ego won't let him take the necessary step back down a level. That's tough for anybody, even with a substantial buyout.

Who lost Tennessee the game then? Blame the players as some have here have done.. it is coaching period and player development period.. my support was done when He basically lost the OU game then I was really done when we loss on a big pass TD that looked really familiar by the same coach at Florida two years ago..

The OU game in year 2? Really?

For me, it's not the loss. I would be off the Butch-Bus if we'd played just as poorly and somehow won.

He's had time to recruit his guys (VERY well, by the way), coach them up, weather the injury storm, and...

He's still making in-game blunders that cost us games, and his VERY talented players are playing far beneath their collective talent level.

For such a talented team to be so inept in almost all phases of the game can only reflect on the coaches. Sadly, it's been a consistent Butch trend. (And I mean that "sadly", as I've always been, and remain, a huge Butch fan, as a person. I REALLY wanted him to succeed.)
