Yes. And it appears possible that was part of the deal falling apart. Just as likely the renegotiation with UT meeting could easily also have been an attempt to negotiate a reduced Barnes buyout to leave. Sans buyout reduction, Barnes likely held less advantage in negotiation to stay.
The grass isn't always greener. It would be interesting to know, but I'm not willing to part with Barnes to find out and watch us eventually spend $2.5 million on Johnny Mid-major to start over. Bird in the hand, I guess.I don’t know I’m kind of curious what $4.7M/year could have got us.
Barnes leaving makes that even easier with an additional 5 million cash in hand from his buyout.
You don't think this through very deeply, do you? I'm getting exhausted drawing the lines for you.
Well, you live your life being pissed off, so I don’t know that this means a whole lot.Barnes has a house 20 minutes away from me in Debordieu Colony (I actually know the exact address). He was never moving to LA. I feel like this dude played UT for a raise. And for that, it kind of pisses me off.

I figured Barnes might get bumped up to $4-4.25 million to compete with UCLA's offer, so I guess we overpaid by $500k/yr. Nothing outrageous.
Would you rather pay him a million more a year or end up with Ronnie Tyndall, Donnie’s little brother, as our head coach. You know that’s what would happen. Are we forgetting that Texas fired him? Yea, he’s been a good coach for us to get things back on track but damn...we’re paying him like he’s Tom Izzo (who, btw, only makes 4.1 mil a year and has a .723 win percentage).
How is it a wash? Buyout is cash negative for UCLA, not to mention previous buyouts. It is cash positive for UT. If UT then wants a high dollar coach with big buyout, they would have free money in hand to start out before salary is even involved. A 5 mil coach costs UCLA 10 mil. Same coach costs UT 5 mil.My point was UCLA was willing to pay 5 million buyout for Barnes AND pay 5 million a year.
For us, the buyouts at best wash so I see why your brain is exhausted. UCLA has is a better job in BBall and they offered more and can't get one of the names you've offered but somehow you think we could.

Where did you read that? Do you have any more red herring? And to answer that question, they are not in different stratosphere. UCLA has some history that is nice, but it's been fading since about the 70s. See the Lady Vols for how quickly that ceases to matter. So UT is a better BBall coaching job than UCLA?
