Source: Butch staying, raise pending

Both sides make comparisons to Dooley. Those who aren't Butch fans typically like to simply compare records.

I think it's fine to compare. I don't think anyone believes it's the measuring stick or some ultimate measure of success, but when you take one step out of a huge hole, I don't see an issue with looking down to see that you're no longer standing on the bottom... as long as you keep climbing.

it's one thing to look at back at where you came from, it's another to act like it's ok just because you're better than where you were, regardless of where you should actually be.

Our standards are higher? I'm not saying CBJ does or doesn't "deserve" one, but to do anything because UK does is not the benchmark I want to be shooting for.

I wouldnt say" do it because UK did " - I am saying other coaches see this and they know they are worth more than the UK coach and expect to be paid that way

Agreed...
Half of these people complaining about the raise haven't gave a cent to the university, or have been to an actual football game in over 20 years. They're the same people who ask for your Netflix password cause they're too cheap to give up $9.99 a month.
I also remember our last coach stopping football practices cause there was a trashcan moved two feet too far to the left.
So, in my opinion...
Give Butch the money he deserves, and throw in a couple secret monthly conjugal visits from Layla Kiffin if need be.

Or Jen Bielema. She fine.

He is getting a raise because he deserves one. He is killing it in recruiting. 2 top 5 classes for a team that has won 11 games in 2 years. He should get a raise based off of that alone. The goal this year was to go to a bowl game. We played 23 freshman, replaced our entire OL and DL, played arguably the hardest schedule in the country, and were still going to a bowl game. There is progress all around. If we don't pay him - someone else will.

Good post.

I don't understand why folks care. It's not your decision, it's not your money. Again, in the college football "industry", this is normal and it's not even a big raise based on industry standards.

I already explained this to you once. The measure of success is not by being better than Derek Dooley. Not by any means at all.

I know, but damn. Every time someone wants to say something good about Butch, some ahole brings up Dooley for some reason. I'd prefer never letting those combo of letters ever come out of my keyboard again.

Then I guess the key is to differentiate who is acting like "it's ok" and who is just looking at where we came from with those comparisons. I haven't seen anyone post outdoing Dooley and being better than we were is an end game, but nothing surprises me anymore.

It's a step. It can't be the last one. And you can debate whether it's big enough. But it's a step.

Tell me you're joking. Almost the entire 09 class turned out to be a huge black eye for UT. Most were either criminals who got kicked out or complete busts - Bryce Brown included.

How many ranked teams did Dooley beat in his tenure?

Nukeese Richardson was a high character guy. :eek:lol:

Great post. Maybe I should not have had that fourth Margarita.:p

Gave you a like!
But you see...it's these ignorant fans who think they know "much more" about college football then anyone else in the entire world! These people who say Dobbs isn't the answer or say CBJ is scared, "HELLO, YOU ARE NOT A COACH, AT ANYTHING". They are the ones screaming like their voice even matters. The vast majority is against them....and logic dictates they are wrong!

250K is a lot of money. And I think he was going to battle for his assistants as well. Butch knows keeping continuity is important to keep the train moving.

This is what I heard he was fighting for and got it. Makes me respect him even more. He really wants to succeed here and knows he needs to keep coaching staff together as well. They see it too.

It's called progress. You can't win championships with some of the talent that has been on the field. It's coming.
