Somebody Get Tony Jones A Crying Towel.

Spin it however you want. You hack on Jones for casting unfounded aspersions, then you say he didn't because he doesn't have the stones. In the meantime you throw 'aspersions of ethics' at Jones -- what you criticized him for doing in the first place, all the while acting if there is nothing strange going on with Selby and WWWes.

I'm dizzy.
There's nothing subtle about what Jones was saying. However, unlike Digger Phelps or Bob Knight back in the day, he doesn't have the guts to simply say "That guy cheats."

You must have a better inside track to what Jones meant than I do. That's not how I took it.

This is not breaking news. Cal has been surround by some questionable happenings his entire career, yet every time it gets posted or implied you act as if someone just insulted your mother. I don't understand it, I really don't -- unless it's just an opportunity to sling insults in an attempt to cheap shot Tennessee coaches.

In an above post you mentioned that Tony Jones should be the last person in America to decry the ethics of others. Can you provide some examples of Jones' lack of ethics?

Maybe Jones is upset because he let Coach Pearl's prize recruit slip away while Pearl was on business out of the country. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Jones and Pearl come face-to-face upon Pearl's return to Knoxville. I think someone's got some 'splaining to do.

Nobody comes out of Detroit Public League bathed in glory from a recruiting standpoint. Jones was the lead horse on the recruitment of Ramar Smith. Let's remember some of the coaches who pulled out of that one. That should tell you something. Ask anyone around the Big Ten or the Horizon League how legitimate the academics of the guys Pearl and Jones brought into Milwaukee were. The guy is tied in with people in the Detroit AAU scene who make Wes look like Ghandi. Bottom line, he's got no room to talk. He just wishes he had more powerful friends.

Hat, do you know anything about Wes and what he does as like a profession really? I don't think many of us know anything about him outside of that story GQ did about him knowing pretty much everyone important and his power.

The GQ article hit the important parts. Wes is in the relationship business. He gets to know elite players, who then usually end up in Nike shoes and sign with agents friendly with Wes.

I would actually be interested in this too. Honestly though, you could get some pretty great coaches for the same amount of money we're paying Pearl though.
It's always tough to guess who might be candidates if you don't know when you'll be looking. Start with guys making $2 mil or less and you'd have a baseline. Money talks in the coaching business.

Hat, good we see a list of your guys (coach candidates)?
Here are 5 guys I'm certain Tennessee could hire if Pearl quit tomorrow to coach the Israeli National Team:
1. Mike Anderson.
2. Phil Martelli.
3. Randy Bennett.
4. Kerry Keating.
5. Tony Barbee.

Didn't Mike Anderson sign a long term deal with Mizzou when Memphis was looking for a coach?

He's still not making Pearl money. Further, he'd love to get into the SEC to bust up Arkansas, Alabama, and Auburn for passing on him.

Hat where do you think Selby ends up?
I was thinking Memphis.
It's impossible for me fathom Kentucky getting Irving, Knight, and Selby. I don't have any inside information on this one, but I wouldn't be surprised to see WWWes help out his old buddy Kenny Payne. Oregon would be a nice platform for Selby. It would certainly make Phil Knight happy.

He's not making Pearl money. I was shocked to see what he agreed to when Memphis was offering much, much more.

With the recruiting pipeline that he opened?
John's pipeline is his own. Pastner will recruit well because of his own connections and those of his father, but the Derrick Roses and Tyreke Evans of the world will now be going to Kentucky.

Where did you coach hatvol? Did you have a winning record in the youth club you coached in lol? However i do share your opinion. I think he is a great motivator but a horrible coach. With the talent he had last year he could have done much, much better.

Selby's decision more than likely will have an impact on Mcrae decommitting eventually as well. I kinda expected this but still shocking none the less. Our 2010 class is now a joke which will impact Pearl's ability to recruit 5* talent from here on out.

How legit were the grades of the Memphis recruits that Cal brought in?
