I have gained a lot of respect for Simms. Every time he gets hit he gets up, dust off, and goes on with the next play.
Simms to OL:
"****, I dont care if I get hit. None of them are going to hit me hard enough to hurt me, anyway.
One LSU guy sacked Vols QB Matt Simms in 1st quarter and told him, "We'll be here all day." Simms said, "That's fine. I'll be here, too."
Gooch said about Simms, "I've never seen a quarterback talk to a defensive lineman like that. Most quarterbacks will shy away."
If you don't know by now he is a team leader and a guy the team believes in ya'll are crazy. He'll be the starting QB next year book it.
Just read this one after check out this post. I think its the best one.
"We don't have a choice. We have to bounce back. This is a long season and we have to play against a lot of other good teams and a lot of other good defenses. It was a tough loss. But I can't lie, as soon as we got off of that plane back in Knoxville I moved on," quarterback Matt Simms said.
I think you can judge him on his play even when he is getting knocked down.
Against Oregon and Florida, it was bad. Against UAB and LSU, it was good.
I'm a convert. I didn't think he could develop anymore, but its clear he can mature and grow. And he is. I hope it keeps up. He's the only QB that can take that kind of beating and keep going we have.
Modify that to say that he is the only QB with any starting talent at the moment. Nash Nance is a big boy QB but we dont know anything about his abilities.
He got heart and isn't afraid of a fight. You need that as a leader. He'll make that OL wanna go to war to protect him. They're not doing so hot right now. But, they'll get better and by the end of the season, should be solid. We'll get Schofield back probably for the Bama game. Maybe "Stinger Boy" too.
