Some thoughts on what has transpired....

Why would a STUDENT steal a LAPTOP, unless he was going to SELL it? Universities still have some sort of media center and libraries where they can access the internet or computers for FREE!

Hard to engage in self-gratification in the library, maybe dude is a big fan of porn?

It is ridiculous to make this kid out to be something terrible, especially given the fact that it's a freaking laptop. I can think of a lot worse things that he could have been caught doing, that would make this whole laptop thing look small in comparison.

Man, I just hope you're not a parent ...

Regardless of the facts, it's our job as posters on VN to speculate, be rumor mongers, disparage characters of innocent people, post fail pics and gifs, blame Dooley for all of it, work in a good jab at Hyams, and feign outrage about all the attention it's creating while posting endless comments about it so as to keep the story alive. I'm proud of every last one of us.
You are totally and completely wrong. Promoting the atmosphere and tone in your post is.... :loco::loco: 14 likes... BS . :stinker2:

What the hell is that supposed to mean?? I think it's ridiculous how over blown this all is, over a stinking laptop. I'm not condoning what he did in any way, shape, or form, but trying to label this kid in general as a screw-up at 19 years old, is dumb.

As far as the whole parenting thing, I would expect my kid to answer for what they did, but I wouldn't make them out to be a screw-up for it. I was raised to answer for what I did, but that I still had parents, even if they were a little pissed at me.

I'm 23 years old, and have NEVER had an altercation with the police other than a couple of speeding tickets. You know why? Because I was raised to have, and have on my own, enough sense to not get involved in situations like that. The "he's just a kid, give him a break" excuse is total crap. A 16 year old who rapes a child is still a rapist despite "just having raging hormones".

Glad you got it figured out man, congrats.

He's what 19 or 20? Plenty old enough not to steal.

ainge said today on TNSR that there is more to the story than what we have been told so far so hopefully everything work out for cam he also said that if this happened back in the day that the team would have handled it and not the police him and swain both said the same thing that they both had property and money stolen from them and they handled it in house and when it became necessary that fulmer took care of it

Which has been my point. This could have been handled different, but it hasn't been, and now it's a bigger mess than it could have been.

2. There have been several key team members over the years that have done this exact same thing, just wasn't publicized like this has been, and I think that the deterioration between UT and the law enforcement of Knox county needs to be fixed. I don't know how long that might take, or what needs to be done, but there are ways to handle things like this, and I don't think it's been handled very well.

What the hell does this mean? Perhaps if we didn't have a steady stream of criminals running through our program over the last 20 years then UT's relationship with local law enforcement would be better. With respect to better ways to handle things like this, what do you have in mind? Looking the other way?

Looking the other way - I thought that's what you had in mind.

Show me where I said that, other than trying to read into my post what you want to see.

There are many things that can be handled in house, and this is one of them. If he's dealing drugs, get the cops involved, if he stole something, let the team and coaches handle it.

Right here. You're suggesting that the team should have handled it internally so a thief avoids repercussions. That's looking the other way.

Your point is crystal clear. You have no problems with stealing, and you think that law enforcement doesn't need to be involved with such "trivial offenses".

You think if the team handled it, there would be no repercussions?? Really?!?!

You believe a felony should be handled in house?

You believe a felony should be handled in house?

It's a Class E felony, if I'm not mistaken, and that is the lowest one you can get. Given the fact that he probably doesn't have an adult record, he will plea down to some form of misdemeanor (if he knows he's guilty), probably not serve any jail time, have some fines and community service, and probably be on 6 months to a year of probation. By all means though, keep trying to associate felony with this making Cam a terrible person, your doing a great job.

the initial incidents were being handled in house, within the football program. this past weekend, things went outside the football program..

Were these incidents in April victimless?

football players were victims.

first of all, players taking from players has gone on for as long as there have been athletic teams. typically, those get handled in house, with the football program.

our late safety, # 15, was always taking things that didin't belong to him. Those things are handled.

this past weekend it went outside football program and we had an arrest

you are very naive if you don;t think things such as this happen all the time...

I've seen and/or heard of it for over 40 years of following athletic programs..

If programs ran someone everytime they took something without asking, then you would have multiple dismissals every year.

this is more publicized right now because it was outside the FB program.

I'm not saying this is the correct approach but it is the way it is..

F-E-L-O-N-Y.

If you don't want this stuff to be in the public eye, don't do the crime. Pretty simple concept.
