Some thoughts on what has transpired....

What about a player stealing stuff from non-team members?

If I've got my university administrator's hat on, then I don't care about who it is and I kick him out of school regardless.

But if I'm wearing a coach's hat, and basically all I care about is winning games, then I have a lot less tolerance for a player who screws his teammates than I do one who steals from some random stranger kid that nobody on the team gives a crap about. I can't have that guy back in my locker room. That's the cynical coaching way of looking at it.

It's less than 2 days after the initial arrest. It's not like I'm bring this up 3 weeks later. Nice try though.

So you think 3 weeks is the limit for which to discuss this issue and at that point it should be dropped?

Gee. An opinion on a message board. Go figure.

Can we just please stop with the "what's up with people named Cam and stealing laptops?" jokes. They are getting real old

Regardless of the facts, it's our job as posters on VN to speculate, be rumor mongers, disparage characters of innocent people, post fail pics and gifs, blame Dooley for all of it, work in a good jab at Hyams, and feign outrage about all the attention it's creating while posting endless comments about it so as to keep the story alive. I'm proud of every last one of us.

You left one thing out fade. We also need to stress the fact that ESPN and sports center will make this their top story for the next two weeks since they hate us. Lol

Yeah, we really should wait on judging this situation. It is certainly plausible that after he was arrested and suspended indefinitely, that this is a big misunderstanding and Cam is either being setup or he just bought it from someone who had stolen it.

I think most of the "wait and see" crowd acknowledge that it looks really bad.

I love how you blame the cops for not trying to cover this up.

There are ways to handle things like this, especially when it involves UT athletics in Knoxville, but it's obvious that a little discretion is almost impossible for some of today's law enforcement to use.

Could you elaborate? Because it sounds completely ridiculous to me.

It is ridiculous to make this kid out to be something terrible, especially given the fact that it's a freaking laptop. I can think of a lot worse things that he could have been caught doing, that would make this whole laptop thing look small in comparison.

I really hope there is an explanation to this that does not criminally implicate him, but looks like that is doubtful. If guilty, good bye and good ridance. The program does not need this.

We have other options in terms of warm bodied scholarship caliber players... But by all accounts, Clear is/was going to be a pretty special player for us. In the short term we are fine because Rivera is a good player, but behind that, no one else on the roster is "special" at that position.

Downs and Merideth are more than warm bodies

I would love to hear how you think they should have handled it before I comment....

I don't think law enforcement, in this case UTPD, made him out to be something terrible. They just arrested him for sitting around with a laptop that had been reported stolen.

You also didn't explain what you would prefer UTPD had done or how this was the result of any antagonistic relationship between UTPD and UT athletes.

Clear has to deal with his crime(s) at present, so he is not an option going forward until/if he manages to reinstate his unproven, brainless, big body to the team. There is no defense for his actions and his teammates and fellow students will not welcome him back with open arms as some may suggest. We all understand the concept of innocent until proven guilty. We also understand that holding and using a laptop that you know is not yours is a crime, regardless of whether he stole it or not, which he is alleged to have done. The media has a responsibility to let the public know. What once was swept under the rug existed in a different time and place than from today.

And we have two proven, quality TE's remaining on the roster with a highly sought after recruit in the wings that deserve our full support. Regarding these TE's I will add that none have committed any known crimes that would get them suspended from the team to this point.

Next.

I'm really not understanding how the police mishandled it. They got a call from OIT at UT that a laptop that was flagged for stolen was being used in the campus wifi, showed up in the area, found a kid using said laptop, and arrested him. Sounds like they did their job.

No doubt they did their job. The OP seems to be under the impression that they should give a special consideration to a student who happens to play football.

That's the impression I get. If they raided his apt on a weekly basis that's one thing, but showing up to a call in the line if duty and just letting it ride is another

Trust me, he doesn't want to see what a "breakdown of the relationship" would really look like and the effects it would have on the program should the PD declare open season.

Mac's are not all that . You can pay over a thousand for what a 600. dollar E-machine will do .But then you could not be a mac fan. Lets See? Hewlet packerd to dollar is just about twice the real ability . Lol But the steve jobs boys still say OOOH we dont get a virus. Well except the LARGEST one that has ever been discovered . Apple fans rank right up there with PS3 fans .

One can buy a cheap Hyundai over a BMW. One hopes to last until it is paid off while other drives like new for years.
As for owning a computer that can do EVERYTHING AND MORE of what another computer can do...you just made the case for owning a Mac. :)
