Showing respect for players

Vols5150.....

I think we all get the jist of your argument. With that being said the Tennessee fan base isn't one you can piss on their leg and tell them it raining. This isn't UTEP. If we continue to see the product that was on the field yesterday, then the boos will cease to the sound of disposable income being spend elsewhere. Which in Hamilton's business is like nails on a chalkboard.

Simply, you can't stop the boos.

Can I ask what do you intend to do about this booing problem. What? Bring back the Soviet Secret Police to make booing fans "go away for a while"

Well, we could make sure those entering the stadium have at least 2 teeth in their head, or make sure they have shoes on.

Was there any boos in Neyland when Florida beat Manning & the Vols 31-0 in Neyland, id venture to guess there was and that it didnt hurt recruiting.

It was a performance that deserved a booing, heck they could of went the old WWF route and had signs and chants like Fulmer Sucks. I remember the UGA fan base booing their team quite a bit in mid 06 and at home last year against a lower tier school they were having trouble with. It happens everywhere, especially at places with tradition and lofty expectations.

Guys I am not a Tenn. fan and have been on here a few times just to lurk The reason I am posting is it is crazy to go out and boo college kids is flat out uncalled for, now whether you were at the game or watching on the television, these kids signed up to go to a program to play football and get an education. They are not getting paid millions of dollars and shrugging off losses. Have some respect for these players win or loose they deserve to be treated better than that, some of these guys are using the only way possible to obtain a college degree, so back off with the booing and relax. I want my team to win as bad as the next guy, but at the end of the day it is just a football game. You will win some and lose some, but life brings tougher times than loosing a football game.

No, but they are getting a FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION, room and board for four years, and allot of attention with a possible springboard to a NFL million dollar contract. Nobody is forcing them to play. If they can't take criticism perhaps they should get out of the kitchen. I think the fans have a right to voice their displeasure. I personally would not boo them, but I can understand why some people chose to. If they think this is tough, wait till they get into the real world.:ermm:

See the guy under my name? That's what we don't have. I know people have been saying it for years, but we don't play with heart. We were scared to death yesterday. The biggest compliment we got yesterday on the TV commentary was that Gerald Jones was the only offensive player that played like a Florida player. What does that tell you? Our guys were defeated before they walked out. The boos were for the coaching and the play calling. I was expecting to come in and be a completely different team this year...we are, but for the worse. I never thought I'd say it, but where's Randy Sanders when you need him?

College age kid sitt'n next to me at the game told me not to boo because we had recruits at the game. I asked him if the recruits couldn't tell if we played like @ss if no one boo'd. We made too many mistakes, and if you support a program the way most VOL fans do, it hurts too bad not to be upset with poor coaching. I'm a vol fan thru and thru. I pay for my seats and parking pass and when the coaches don't perform my only voice is to boo. I don't have a hotline to hamilton to let him or fulmer feel my frustration. So for now I'll just have to BOO!

GO VOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

The response from the college kid is just like Fulmer's response for the past 10 years when something goes wrong.....let's pat them on the butt, tell them we love them, and that we'll get them next time. If we keep sweeping this crap under the rug then we'll continue to get what we saw yesterday. I'm Orange all the way, but we need help!

Yeah partner I am a terrorist. What a dumba@@. To answer your question I am a GA fan. I just wanted to voice my opinion on the disrespect that is shown by booing players.

Georgia? Were you at the 2006 homecoming game against Vandy? The Dawg fans booed the team lustily. Didn't seem to hurt the team did it?

It's an unfortunate time to be a Vol player. They will hear the boos and take it personally. They will all develop "Chips" on their shoulders too. The boos don't help the prospective recruits in the stands either, but what do you do about it? Nothing. No matter what the fans say, some of them were booing the players too. When Crompton threw that pic just before half I bet half of the fans booing were doing it towards his play.

Crompton is an easy target. He acts cocky at times and makes statements that get under our skin. My brother and I watched a DVD about him when he was in high school. He was cocky then too! Right now if any player deserves a boo it's him. But, I still refrain from doing so. Instead I just mumble under my breath. After all they came here to fight for our team. They don't get paid. Yeah, they hoped it would be a stepping stone to the NFL but they probably regret that now too.

Capital letters and punctuation are your friends...

We have a vested interest in the UT,,,,, we expect to have a strong football team... whether we choose to boo or not is our business....... show us some good Tennessee football and we'll cheer you on, show us sloppy playing like yesterday, shoot yourselves in the feet, make our mighty school more to talk about how bad we are, then no cheering allowed....... I'll always support my precious UT but come on, booing is allowed when necessary... why don't we play tough like Florida and GA? Toughness, toughen up boys and change our football program...
why coddle them, they're grown men and know or should know how to take positive and negative... it's our money that goes to the program, we want some football and to be on top again.... not the laughing stock.........................

GO VOLS.........
GO BIG ORANGE ....................

What the fans say or do makes absolutely no difference. The smart kid is going to go to the school that gives him the best chance of getting millions in the NFL and right now UT doesn't happen to be that school.

It doesn't matter what fans say? REeally? This is what Eric Berry said when asked about his recruiting visit...

Q: What was your most memorable moment from visiting Tennessee?

A: It would be the Florida game (on Sept. 16). I came up unofficially for the Florida game. Tennessee had lost by one point. I was expecting the fans to be mad. I went to a game at another school and fans were booing after they lost. Tennessee fans were like, 'Keep your head up. We'll get them next time.' They were so positive about the outcome. That stood out to me. That's one of the things that sold me about Tennessee.

The smart kid is going to go to the school that gives him the best chance of getting millions in the NFL............

FYI, 90% of these kids are playing for a free education. Most of these kids at Tennessee and other large schools don't make millions in the NFL. Those are the kids you are booing.

I know that many people do not like booing but I do not know which is worse. Loving a team so much that it hurts, and you express yourself by booing, or the apathy I saw set-in at halftime.

People started leaving the game at halftime. The entire second half, I saw people 10’s of thousand of people wearing orange who had resigned themselves to the fact of another lackluster performance by their beloved team and coaching staff; and another self-inflicted loss to a hated rival. Nobody was booing. Nobody was cheering, except Florida fans. Everyone was looking around at their fellow Vols with a look of indifference. It was like they were watching a rerun of a bad TV show that they had seen time-and-time again. Now that it truly sad; when you get to the point you do not care anymore and where opposing fans are feeling sorry for you.

Thanks Mike. Thanks Coaches.

PS: I enjoyed meeting MtnVol (thanks for the conversation) and stevogator was a class act (I hope you stay around for awhile).

Vol5150,

1) Please name me a fan base that has never booed
2) Please name me a traditionally winning program that has gone through the downs of the "cycle" you speak of without a head coaching change.
3) Please explain to me why you think that recruits are so thin-skinned.
4) Please explain to me why you think that people booing in more detrimental to recruiting than watching a poorly coached team vomit on themselves in a big game.
Finally 5) Please explain to me how all these ad hominem attacks make you any less of a loser than you profess us "rednecks" to be. Again, I am sorry if I am using unfamiliar terms to you, I learned how to read last week and have been trying out all the stuff I have picked up.

emainvol,

5150 can't think logically. But I guarantee he will come up with some foolish answer for you! He is the resident rule maker for vol fans!
