Should we manage to get up on Mizzou by 14,

Imo, if either shrout or maurer had been given the reps in practice this year that was given to jg, one of them would be ready. But from what I have read on the practice reports, jg again has taken all reps with the 1's. Again no one able to actually compete for the job. I keep thinking a light will come on in our coaches heads that jg is a good practice player, but not game player. I read sc forum and they were even saying jg will probably be worst qb they face this year, and if he had hit wide open receivers we would have won by 20 plus points. This is from sc forum.

I was hoping to see JG play his senior year like Crompton did his... a jaw-dropping transformation from earlier poor play.... but instead, against SC we saw the same bad tendencies as last year-- he doesn't process what he sees on the field and make good decisions. Pruitt wants it to be a good story because it would show JG has been coached well, but he just doesn't have the skills. I feel bad for JG because it looks like he trained hard in the offseason.

I don't want to see Bailey at all this year. He has had no where near enough pratice with the team. Let him sit back and learn the playbook. No need in sending him in and having a Nathan Peterman situation. I think he gets some experience under his belt and wins the job next Fall and we send a RS Freshmen out on the field that is ready to lead the team and possibly break some records over the next few years.
Yeah...so this year counts as nothing...
Theoretically he could be a RSFreshman in 2022...
He's a 5 star.
Let him play!

Bailey is the future. Not Shrout, not Maurer, they are serviceable at best.
So a guy that you have not seen play a single down in college is "the future" but not two guys with enough talent to get #1 snaps last year?

I'll preface by saying I do not care who the "future" is so long as they give us better QB play than we've seen for the last 3 years and counting. Let's let the best man win before assuming who the best man is. Going strictly from arm strength... Shrout has the strongest arm on the team. Maurer has plenty of arm. HB does not have near Maurer's mobility.

Ultimately, it will come down to decision making and getting the ball to the right guy consistently. None of us have anything to base an ironclad declaration on for who that is.

UT has three talented guys with no less than 4 years to play. Whoever won the 2nd spot in practice should be the guy who plays.

How do you think that when Shrout barely got any time and Maurer played only a little before getting the concussion?
The coaches sort of acted like Maurer might be "the future" following the UGA game.

I think the greatest risk to his career is that he might be injury prone. Otherwise he will be a good QB for someone.

Maurer is 2 per just released depth chart for Missouri game. IMO this will be a one possession game only way JG comes out is if he has 2 turnovers.
You could say they just listed by or/or but they are not in alphabetical order and their not in number order and their not in seniority as Shrout has most time. I think Maurer will be one in but it will be up to JG's play. We will not get a big enough lead just hope we win.
That chart is saying #2 is Maurer OR Shrout OR Bailey. Not that BM is #2. It seems pretty well established Shrout earned the backup spot.

And those released depth charts aren't worth anything according to VQ.

Err except he made really good decisions all game...that's the best he's looked reading, making quick decisive throws, anticipating, etc.

Mechanics were off but that is new and seems like something fixable.

Crompton was waaay worse. His step up SR season just brought him up to the same qbr JG had the past 2 seasons. If JG made that kind of step up, he'd have a 160+ qbr and be top 2 or 3 in the sec...would be awesome but don't see it happening.

This point's probably already been made but how could anyone watch the Indiana game last year and think it's safe to put a RS FR into a 2 score SEC game?

I'm still trying to figure out why someone would speculate UT up by 14 points when the starting QB has never led a UT O to more than 30 points against an FBS opponent.

Unless you are planning on a shut out... a game will still be close at 14 points with JG at QB.

Slow down with all the bailey should play noise. Dude missed half of training camp, he’s way behind right now. He will get his chance but y’all know damn well CJP ain’t gonna let him play until he feels he’s earned the right

In my opinion this won't happen. This is another way Guarantano hurts our team. He is incapable of sustaining consistent drives for our offense, which means me never "get up" on a team in a manner that allows us to pull starters and play backups...even against crappy teams. One of the reasons our other QBs have struggled to be developed despite multiple years between them...they get next to no game experience because we're never up enough to pull the starters, even against other bad teams.

You act as if our coaches just fell off the turnip truck. These guys know who’s best for the job because their with them every effing day. If Pruitt And Chaney thought one of the other guys would give them a better chance to win then they woulda gave em more reps in training camp. On top of all that, using what a SC fan says about jG is about as useless as it gets

It's all part of JG's master plan to prevent HB from seeing the field. He won't play well enough to ever to get a large enough lead and let that happen.
Chaney can overrule any deviant master plan by JG. Run the ball on the hips of Cade May and Trey Smith. Seems the OL cupboard has been bare since Dooley forgot to recruit any. Finally we have some big uglies.

A 19 point loss to bama was not a bad opening game. Out scored bama's reserves in the second half. Tigers played hard the whole game.

We will not see another QB this week.
Your last sentence ... maybe true ... maybe not true.

If you notice, there is an “or” in there, indicating that they are not naming an official second team quarterback. That said, Shrout is the number two, at least internally.

We were up by 14 against South Carolina and we won by 4. Then again, what am I saying... If the game is tied at any point, I think HB should go in.

How many games has JG started and lead the offense to the point where UT had the game so in the bag that a 2nd or 3rd sting qb came in for reps?

For reps..not because JG got pulled for being terrible and we had to put a qb in.

For whatever reason the boy can't score.
In his career as a Vol against AL, Ga, and FL
58/110 606 yards 2TD 5INT

yea, that won’t cut it when you‘re giving up an average of 41 points per game to those three teams over the last three years...
