Should Tim Banks be replaced at end of season?

No he shouldn't even be considered for being fired at this point. I feel that he has done a good job given the players that are on our current roster. Our talent level is ok but the quality depth is just not available. We are down 14 scholarship athletes and its late in the season. The guys on D have already played a normal full season's worth of snaps in a short period. Also food for thought as far as the 4th down play goes, I can guarantee that he didn't call for a blown coverage. Also don't forget that we played a pretty decent 18th ranked opponent and we are a .500 program. Most important, we won!!! Haven't done that consistently in years.

I'm not wanting Banks fired. But when has the run D been solid? We're 126th in 3rd down conversions.

I can go and try to run the stats but I'm almost positive that those are majority pass plays.

I just went and ran the stats but besides UF, Ole Miss, Kentucky... we've done fairly well. Under 4 ypc.

Every SEC team except Mizzou (who was down by 28 in 1st quarter) has rushed for 150+ and 4 of them have rushed for 200+.

I suspect UGA easily cracks 300 unless they decide to work I think their passing game.

That’s not what I said. Reread my post. I stated are TFL’s are likely skewed toward the lesser opponents on our schedule because we had very few against the SEC teams who have beaten us this year.

We are playing with 3 linebackers and limited depth on d-line. Beasley is a redshirt freshman, did he even play linebacker in high school? We need another pass rusher opposite Byron Young and a strong safety that can play run support.

Theo, Flowers, and McCullough played every snap on defense. Beasley played every snap but 4. Seven players with over 75 snaps on defense.

Paper Thin depth but Paper beat Rock!

I’m disappointed Eason and Willis have not made a contribution yet in the rotation. I have heard very little about them this year.

Uh, this thread was begun by someone entirely uninformed on the situation on the Tennessee defensive troops. The thread is an embarrassment and if not so outlandishly ridiculous would be an insult to Coach Banks. From all of us who understand the current horrible situation you came into, our apologies Coach that this thread was started. The same idiot who wonders about the above question also wonders if Tennessee might be ranked this week. Please use your limited brain before posting such complete drivel. Geesh

Errbody loving Banks here but that wasn't happening on the running game thread tonight. Lots of criticism of the scheme and coaching decisions.

Big difference in being frustrated about a decision or a bad game vs stating he's not good enough overall.

Defense was awful Saturday. True. Banks has overall done a pretty dang good job this year. Also true.

Tennessee has had mega million dollar DCs since 2016 (shoop, Pruitt, Ainsley) and none have done half the job this guy has with less talent. I’m proud of this defense. Those kids bust their ass.

I know better than to fall for your propaganda, Rickyvol77 -- I've been reading VolNation for years! Any team that Tennessee beats is ipso facto bad. When our program was perceived to be "good," it was only because the rest of the conference was bad and the one team that wasn't would occasionally shoot itself in the foot. Our rivals play only the best teams-- their victories are impressive, and their stats are earned against the best, but we have always lost to any team with a pulse and only ever rack up stats against glorified high school teams. You won't ensnare me with your lies, Rickysunshinepumper77!

Yes, I know, my VN friends: (1) "We just won a big game, why go negative?" (I'm not being negative, this is just a question in direct response to our objectively bad defensive play) (2) "The D just had a huge TOP discrepancy, they were gassed!" (Agreed, but were they partly gassed because our coaching scheme didn't get them off the field?) (3) "We are low on scholarships and bodies who can play!" Yes, again, I know all that. My question (and it's just a question, not a call for a march on the athletic facility with torches or for a nocturnal visit to the rock with spray paint) is this: DOES TIM BANKS's DEFENSIVE SCHEME HOLD US BACK? Are we going to be able get to the next level with this lack of pressure from our 3 man rushes and infrequent blitzing or stunting, combined with a soft zone in the second and third levels? This impotent combo seems to give the opposing QB that extra second to find the receiver who turns and sits down in a hole in the secondary or breaks into a gap between our flat-footed DBs.

So do we stick with our guy and hit the portal for better players? Or do we find a coach with a better scheme (and still hit that portal)?
Literally the dumbest thread in the history of volnation. You should be ashamed.

I rewatched the last two minutes of the game on SECN. Aside from an inexplicable gap in coverage on 4th and 24, the defense didn't play those final minutes like they were tired. The KY quarterback couldn't complete a pass for 10 yards to get into FG range due to front-line pressure. They stepped up big time, despite their fatigue. Yes, it is nice to win, but they also earned the win.

Tennessee played a lot of backups during 3rd Qtr after the pick6

Bowling Green is one of the 3 worst teams in the MAC. The win over Minnesota was simply an upset. Upsets happen in college football.

With a paper this roster on defense. I think Banks is doing the job.

Right now we only have one 4 star recruit committed on defense per Rivals and none per 247 Sports for 2022. We're not going to win many games in the SEC with a defense consisting of primarily 3 star recruits.
