Why should she care? I bet the people that fired her are about to be wiped from the earth. So I bet there will be plenty of new job openings.

She's a counselor who holds those kind of views.

Firing was appropriate. That comment really isn't appropriate at any time.

Is she being prosecuted by the government?

No and I realize that is the standard for this board, but there will come a time when posting scripture on your Facebook page will be seen as offensive as her racist comment. When that time comes I would like a precedent to exist that protects my preferred type of speech as well as speech I dislike and I wouldn't mind that protection extending to all parts of my life. Plus I'm sure she held these views before this and probably stated them in smaller settings, so they only fired her out of political concerns. That is something that should concern all of us.

That's not the standard per this board. Thats the standard per the 1st Ammendment. Employers can fire employees for expressing views they consider detrimental. This lady posted a racist comment for all to see. That's not the best thing for her to have done considering her profession.

Her freedom of speech remains intact. However, freedom of speech has never included freedom from all consequences due to the speech you choose.

I need to go back and read that employer exception clause in the 1st Amendment.

Other than to cause people not to like her, which could affect her effectiveness as a counselor, what consequences came from her statement?

I'm not defending her statement, it offends me as well, but I don't equate this to yelling fire in a theater.

She proved they had a buffoon working for the organization/business/school or whatever.

All organizations should want to fire their buffoons.

All organizations should want to fire their buffoons.

Some buffoons should be kept around for their entertainment value.

Besides, it is possible many in the school agree with her, wouldn't that make her more effective in her job?

Really? So, you carry a copy with you? Care to quote where it specifically gives employers this right?

Employers have a right to protect themselves from idiotic statements and behavior just as much as individuals have a right say / do these things.
