Frankly, I'd consider taxing rifled ammunition to the point of absurdity and regulate the sale of powder for the home reloaders.

I'd actually addressed this earlier in the thread but it's been discussed before.

Eh, I don't think that'd last long as getting a tax on components might be easier in some ways than taxing ammunition itself. I say that because the "right" to ammunition is inseparable from the RKBA. Any remotely onerous price burden put on ammunition would directly impact one's 2A rights as a firearm without ammo is just an expensive club.

Could there be "a" tax on ammunition? Possibly, but as stated above as long as firearms fall under the protection of being a Right then it's literally impossible to functionally separate ammunition from the equation. I don't see how there wouldn't be a point such taxation wouldn't be unconstitutional.

No, I'm advocating research. I'm also advocating that all .gov agencies and departments tasked with reporting to NICS do so and report timely. The biggest flaw with background checks is that the information isn't reported to NICS.

First, medical information is not included in the NICS. Second, what do you want to research, why they're crazy? If it was determined they're crazy because of hate speech, where you going to go from there?

I think a better question is why doesn't Switzerland have them. Really high gun ownership rate (not relative to the US, but much much higher than their European neighbors), a right to own firearms in their federal law. Yet no mass shootings and basically no gun crime.

Switzerland has mandatory military service in the Swiss Army for all able-bodied male citizens, who are conscripted when they reach the age of majority, though women may volunteer for any position.

I have said many times that the root causes, the actual reason(s) these people decide to commit these acts needs to be studied to include what if any medications they are or have been taking. What if any similarities in backgrounds did the shooters have. We start there and work to find a solution to stop the why because as long as there are people who want to commit mass murder they will find an instrument to do so. Restricting types of guns solves nothing.
