Line of decent storms moving through Memphis. Cancelled my yard work and now has me watching the trees - straight line winds are pretty stout.

my friend is down there with a different group of friends for a bachelorette party, i knew they'd get killed down there one way or another

Vols in Florida better get ready for Hurrricane Irene. Could be a Category 3 once it skirts the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

Looks like its on a path to hit SC coast

Good story from that adventure....

We needed gas for Satt. Truck/news vehicles... no gas stations had power... Our engineer tells a station owner near our hotel that he'll run the pumps from the satt truck generator in exchange for refueling our vehicles, and that he can sell gas from generator power while we work on editing/shooting stories until time we have to leave.

Line was miles long. State troopers controlling flow. Amazingly, people waiting on line were very courteous with one another, and understood when we had to pull up and go.

I was on a return trip from Dallas, Texas with my Uncle, a long haul trucker, when we were coming back through Tennessee. He was hauling a load to Charleston SC and asked if I wanted to go too. I had enough of the trip up to then, so he dropped me off at home and continued towards Charleston. He got stuck in a hotel 150 miles outside of Charleston for a week. So glad I didnt go

OWH, its on a pretty similar course as Hugo was in 1989, except it looks like this one will move a little closer to the Florida coast

Same as last year. Early models are indicating that the Artic Oscillation and North Atlantic Oscillation are going to remain in the negative. With a ridge building in the West, this will force the cold Canadian artic air south into our area.

Then depending on how big the Greenland block develops, will depend on how long the cold air mass stays over this area. The Greenland block is a ridge of high pressure that builds over the North Atlantic close to Greenland. This causes the low pressures diving into the midwest and south to slow down as they progress eastward. Thats what we had last season and why it stayed fairly cold, especially in the northeast. It is also what caused all the heavy snows in the NE, because it causes the low pressure to slow further down the closer it gets closer to the high pressure. A real strong Greenland block will usually force the low over the top and will hardly move, causing the almost cyclical heavy snows in the NE.

I just hope there are no more storms like what we experienced last Spring. That stuff was crazy, and I never want to endure that again.

That earthquake was pretty scary today. We're 30 miles from the epicenter and we were in mtgs at my school and the whole place was rocking and shaking for about a minute. Scared the bejesus out of me. We had an aftershock after 8 sometime. It has delayed the opening of school here for us. My gym has cracks in the wall and in the floor. My home has cracks in the basement floor and we have 2 in our walls. I know what to do in a hurricane. Earthquakes are new to me. I didn't know that I had moved to California....
