I've heard stories on here about fans telling other fans to sit down and be quiet, but it's never happened to me until last night. I've never been so ashamed of the people around me at a game than last night.

At the beginning kick off my wife and I were standing and cheering and continued to stand while Tennessee got the ball.

Almost the whole two rows behind us started freaking out screaming at us to sit down. Of course we didn't and they just kept going and going and going and going. Finally I lost it and told everyone of them what I thought of them, one guy in particular, and it was awful. A couple beside me drove 5 hours to come and watch the game and were being yelled at as well, and she was drivin to tears because of these idiot people.

One guy even said he was going to get the ushers to kick us out because we wouldn't sit down. What a shame.:furious3:

A similar thing happened to me at the Ohio game in section J. A man screamed at my girlfriend, her brother, and me. We sat down for a few minutes and then decided not to sit down the rest of the game. About 4 or 5 minutes later the people behind us asked us how the game was going, then after a touchdown pass I turned around and said, "We just scored." The guy went off and started cursing and insulting me, so I went to the usher and told him of the situation. He said that he could have the police come and talk to them, but if it was okay with us we could just move down to the student section. We took that offer and had one of the best times I've ever had at a game. Screw those people. I'm not rude about standing, and if I wanted to sit and watch a game, I'd stay at home.
In conclusion, GBO.

Sit down? Be quite? At a Tennessee football game.... NEVER! I would of done the same. You should have called the ushers to have THEM kicked out, for being sorry UT fans.

That sucks, I live in Florida and want to come to a game so bad. If I was there, I would be screaming and yelling at the top of my lungs. Heck, when I watch the games with other fans, I yell at them for not cheering loud enough. So I say scream and cheer your team, and if no one likes it, tell them to pound sand, and scream even louder. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VOLS!!!!!!!

Wouldn't it have been easier to sit down? I stand up and cheer at certain times, but not a whole game. I've never quite understood why people can't cheer as loud seated as standing. Some sort of cosmic phenomenon I guess. The crux is, if everybody is standing, cool to stand. If most everyone is seated, time to sit.

Why would you yell at other fans? I am all for yelling when we are on defense but I would also never tell someone else what to do. If they don't want to cheer oh well.

I also don't see the need to stand the entire game.

I agree with this.

Actually... you are louder standing than sitting. Unless you sit with perfect posture to keep your diaphragm straight. Standing makes it easier.

There is absolutely no reason to stand the entire game, or for the majority of the game for that matter.

If it makes you feel like a better fan to stand up, then good for you, just don't ruin others' experiences around you.

Was that you behind me? Problem is, this happened at the first play of the game, not when we were blowing them out. Sure I like to sit down every now and then too, but not on 3rd and 1 when the other team is driving.

What bugs me most is the "accordion" fan as I call them. They sit, then pop up instantly everytime the ball is snapped, making you miss the d@mn play because you didn't react fast enough.

Ask that question to the other fans that yell at the ones standing a cheering. I get fired up when I watch my Vols, maybe a little to much at times, but none the less, its a football game its time to make noise. Oh and by the way, I dont insult them, I try to get them up to cheer also, I quess I could have phrased that better my bad.

if i want to sit i sit at home. Is there any kind of policy on this that they can actually kick you out for standing?

Heard that. I sat in the student section for 4 years and it was awesome.

Truth. I find it understandable to stand right around kickoff and during / after big plays for cheering. But, be consistent so the people behind you can atleast attempt to move around to be able to see. I'm still irritated how useless our student section is sometimes. (Not that it was a close game) but most of them left after the results to the parade / contest thing were announced. They do it a lot. They treat it like a social gathering (which is okay, if they know whats going on) but they dont pay attention to anything going on down on the field.

No, I wasn't behind you, but if you are so insolent to remain standing when someone asks you nicely to sit down, well what more can I say. If you read what I said, I mentioned that there are times when it is perfectly appropriate to stand, particularly key downs when the game is at stake. But to just stand up the whole game while the other people behind you are seated is just rude. What do you do when there is a seven-year old child behind you, or a person of short stature that can't see over you, even while they are standing? And there are many people with physical limitations that can't stand the whole game, and they are not all old fogies. Some of those fans you hold in disdain may have worn out their knees while playing the game, or maybe they had a knee cap shot off while defending our country. You don't have a clue as to their circumstances, nor does it seem you care.

I don't stand for the entire game, but if I would like to stand up and cheer my team on I have the right to do so! If there is an exciting moment of the game you should stand up! If you need to sit down the whole game then you should stay at home and watch it on t.v. from your couch or get front row seats for yourself. If someone yells at me to sit down it makes me want to stand up in spite!

Good for you. Makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing we have such classy fans such as you.

And yes, everyone has a right to be an azzwipe.
