The East seems to be up in the air, yet again. Anything can happen although the smart money is not on us.whether or not the specifics of this come to fruition, there's always this kind of cloud hanging around as you watch other programs you compete with make changes like that, and wind up in a better spot.
it sickens me that Mac has 2 division titles in 2 years at FL with the way Muschamp left FL. it wasn't as bad as what CBJ inherited, but he won two divisions with a make shift offense, and a rotation of QB's that would make most programs fail.
and if Kirby wins the East this year...what really do we have to say for ourselves?
that's the reality i don't want to face. really hoping to be surprised this year.
Okay. Lets say he goes 8 and 4 this year. Georgia, Florida, Bama, and LSU are on next years schedule. Maybe he goes 9 and 3 next year. Is that acceptable? I am just thinking out loud. I don't know the answers. Just some thoughts. Some where down the road he needs to go 10 and 2 or 11 and 1.
What? 9 wins is no drop off.. that's a great coaching job after losing a lot of talent...
If Butch is going to stay for next season, we're probably going to have to give him a contract extension. Two years of underachievement, not significant end of the world underachievement but underachievement nonetheless, followed by the kind of season that most people are predicting us to have is not the sort of trajectory that makes ADs and boosters eager to grant extensions. I think it's VERY likely that a 7/8 win regular season this year will result in Butch taking his services elsewhere because of the contract situation.
Supposedly, it's the kiss of death if a head coach cannot tell his recruits that he will be there for them for four years. Does anyone think he hired Sexton so we could just throw another year onto his current deal without significantly increasing they buyout? If we start out hot, I fully expect a major push to get an extension during the season. After last year, I think the AD will want to see the entire season play out.this is what i don't get. he's signed thru, what 2020 right? it's not like he's heading in to next year as a lame duck, he's still got 4 years left, including this year.....
i get that the extension talks started, and stalled, and nothing's happened. and he hired sexton for a reason.
but i just don't get the anxiety on his part, or any of the fans' part, that if he doesn't get extended, then that means something's wrong.....

Kind of interesting that Jones didn't get the extension he wanted and many think this is his best recruiting class....?

not convinced at all they are ready to make a move no matter what this year's outcome is.

dude, that's not even close to the reason he should be let go.
So... the powers that be do not expect UT's coach to handle these problems even though the coaches he competes against do?
UF has similar problems as does UGA. Right now it appears that UGA will have around 5 or so true Fr if not more in their two deep to start the season. I'm not sure what the current depth chart looks like but UF entered August with two Fr in their 2 deep at DT.
So this sounds a whole lot like very low expectations covered by ridiculous excuses about taking 6, 8, 10, 20... years to re-build a roster.
