SEC Network Prediction

Why? What makes this team so terrible?

lost too much production without having known replacements for that production. Weak offensive line while breaking in a new QB not a good scenario for SEC play. Still shuffling around trying to find defensive backs. Weak defensive end play. No one proven at that position. Lot of hope for that talent is there but hope fails as much as it is successful. Just too many questions to expect more..

I agree and I'm even mad about it.

Last year was kind of the all in year. But we ended up getting the injury plague, had some weird luck both ways and ultimately finished with a decent season.

We've had some of our top players declare early and lost other very good ones.

Next year my expectations likely will be set higher. This year, 8 wins would be a solid job IMO

some setting too high of expectations for this edition of the Vols. 7 win ceiling, IF they can beat Georgia Tech..

I have us at 7-5 with a 8-4 ceiling. I believe you may be correct. But most will say you're not a true vol fan for thinking that 🙄

This is The Year everybody has been waiting for. CBJ's best recruiting classes are finally upperclassmen with three and four years in the program. We've had four good recruiting classes in a row and have talented players two-deep at every position. We're in the 5th year of The Process-- and CBJ himself said it would take five years to build the foundation and get the program to championship level.

So we're here. The wait is over. Year 5 is about to start. And people are already conceding that 8-4 or 7-5 is the best CBJ can do? UK and SCAR fans expect that and more-- and they don't have half the talent that UT has.

Wasn't that last season?

after all I've invested in this program for 50 years I certainly won't be worried about what people think of me..

Obviously what I think has zero effect on anything, but if we lose to those 4, I'm gonna have a serious problem. Will he survive that? I'm guessing yes. Should he? I would vote No.

I will have a problem at 6-6 regardless.

sometimes it takes longer to rebuild from the depths a program has fallen to. This is not the first time UT has had to rebuild from a low point.. 40 years ago had to go through same scenario... give it time.. changing coaches every 4-5 years won't get you there either..

Respect a lot of what you say or bring, but this isn't true. Last year's team had 85 Butch signees. It doesn't take 5+ years to flip a roster. First two classes, myself or the guy on the corner could have recruited a top class to Tn, immediate PT at an SEC school, a powerhouse, blue blood program at that. You can flip a room in two years and by year 5, that room should be ready to lead.

Player development and roster management are key components of the HC's job. What you're outlining is a fail in both areas-- and significant deficiencies in almost every position group. I hope that's not the case.

I think Tennessee beats UGA. UGA is overrated again, they'll have a season very similar to last year.

If UT avoids the late season surprise losses to the Vandy, SC, Missouri types, I see a 9-3 type season.

By the way, that's about where I expect UF to be as well, 9-3. So I think it comes down UF and UT, they'll be the two best teams in the East. Don't buy the Georgia hype. Their o-line is really bad, they've got pedestrian WR's, the defense is good but not good enough to carry the team all year.

Flipping a roster and filling with blue blood SEC talent are two different things. Sure the roster has flipped but doesn't mean it is a championship type roster or even close..

Coach Mathews believes as many as 12 of the 2017 class may be in two deep by mid-season. Does that sound like the experienced players are SEC players?

Sounds like poor development tbh.

CBJ said it would take five years to get the program to where they had the players they wanted, so I went with his timetable. Like most fans, I expected more in less time.

Ok, well replacing 85-90% of your offense and the 2 best players on defense is going to be tough,

So if he wins 8 games, after replacing 85-90% of the offense and the 2 best players on defense, you don't think he deserves a raise?

Just to be clear, I'm not saying I think he does, I'm just asking because of your conversation in another thread with the gator.

Are people forgetting that we are losing Dobbs, Kamara, Barnett? Dobbs' legs saved UT in many a game over the past few years. The defense is slim in talent and depth. I'm ok with the young offensive talent but if a True Freshman is our best lineman, then Dormady/Guarantano need to take their vitamins and say their prayers.

It wasn't a surprise, though. Seniors graduate and NFL-caliber talent generally moves on in three years. It happens to every team and coaches plan for it. We have a few gaps to fill, but we shouldn't have question marks all over the field. We have a lot of talent, so I'm hoping we don't.

I'm sincerely asking this. Where on defense do we have a lot of talent? I think safety is the only position where we have talent and depth.
