A couple of things to keep in mind here. While the spacing of the big games is better than last year, the schedule is still not our friend. We play Alabama, which I hate to say it, but not a lot of chance we beat them, so that already puts us down a game. We also play LSU who most project to be 2nd or 3rd in the West, although I am not sure just how good they are going to be this year. FL also plays LSU so we are equal there schedule wise, but they get Texas A&M, not close to Bama. GA gets Auburn, who some are picking to finish 2nd in the West, so about equal to us with LSU on the schedule, but they also get Miss St., possibly the worst team in the West, so compared to Bama that would put them one up on us. We will have to beat both of these teams to have a chance to win the East, unless they mess up against someone they should beat.
Regarding last season, I think some people do not understand just how much the injuries, especially on defense, hurt. I read 27 people started in the 11 defense positions last year, and I think only one starter was out the first 3 or 4 games, so that meant most of the injuries were in the last half of the season. They simply could not get any consistency with all the missing players in the last half of the season, and I think that by the Vandy game, the D was just demoralized. Barring substantial injuries like last season, I think the D will be noticeably better this year, even without Barnett, and I think we have a good chance to beat GA or FL (possibly even both) but the schedule still goes against us winning the East. GBO.
