SEC media: TN Picked 3rd in East; no votes for SEC Champ

They are normally very wrong.

2014 - Missouri was picked 4th in the East and won it. SC was picked to win the East and finished 5th.

2015 - Florida was picked 5th in the East and won it.

2016 - The top two were reversed from the predictions. Probably closest they have gotten but that is probably more related to the traditional top teams FL, GA and TN being at the top.

The East is really wide open - there is really no dominant team right now.

So Georgia earned it on the field? Just doesn't matter and if Tennessee was picked to win the East, it would not matter either. I mean someone picked Vandy to win the entire SEC. :eek:lol:

Georgia lost to Vandy in 2016 as well. Seems the media ignored that. And that loss was at Georgia.

Well , let's see-- UK beat Louisville and their Heisman QB to win the Governor's Cup, beat Miss St-- their cross-division rival-- beat Vandy and SCAR to tie UT and UGA for 2nd in the SECE and achieved their team goal of getting to a bowl game-- the Taxslayer Bowl. None of those things were accomplished the year prior and all represented a step forward for UK.

They seem to be feeling pretty good about their season and their coach in the alternate universe of Lexington.

19-30 and one bowl loss. Guess our "embracing mediocrity" police don't want to patrol that state...since that doesn't even meet the standard of such. :)

Not at all, it was being viewed that way all the way up through year 3. "Upward trend" was a catchy phrase here during that span, no?

Jones at UT

5-7 (2-6)
7-6 (3-5)
9-4 (5-3)
9-4 (4-4)

Stoops at the basketball school

2-10 (0-8)
5-7 (2-6)
5-7 (2-6)
7-6 (4-4)

Since they utterly suck they can go further up? Gotcha. :eek:k:

This sets up perfectly. Now when UT finishes a distant 2nd in the east, Butch will admonish us all for being ungrateful and unappreciative of his genius and tout how he succedded and "remember when we were supposed to finish third? We sure showed them!"

But we all know if you ain't first, your last.

I was thinking I read once, but you are probably right. In any case, not being picked by the media would seem to be a blessing given their record of being repeatedly absolutely and absurdly wrong. It proves once again why we play the games rather than go on what the wizards of sports think.

Well, bless their hearts they tend to get the winner of the West right - but that is easy.

The East is a very different story.

GA is the team that is feeling the real heat this year.

Don't even NEED other people in your conversations, huh?

Yes, they are still UK football. That is considered upward last I checked.

Jones benefited from the guy sucking behind him in the same way really.

Now you've gone blue. :nono:

It has more to do with teams in the east failing to live up to expectations than it does the media's ability to predict who will win. It's more of "the team that sucks the least wins". Its not as if the media failed to recognize the meteoric rise of a powerhouse team that nobody saw coming. Last year Florida won because they failed fewer times than Tennessee did. Had Tennessee fulfilled ONE late season expectation the media would have been right.

There will be pandemonium in here come November

I dare to say there will be more than a fair share of coaching search threads

Lol.
You made a declaration that, despite the reasons the media gave, they really had different reasons explaining upward momentum was the real deal but only for some of the teams. And now UK fans have something to do with it.
Seems a little complicated.
My opinion is that they gave their reasons, short and simple. So "who cares" you ask? I'm guessing the guy putting in work to change the narrative?

And my response is still: Who cares?

Maybe 4-4 in the SEC isn't considered mediocrity at UK? Maybe it isn't considered mediocrity at UT, either. The police will have to report in on that.

UGA is getting the benefit of returning a known at QB and the idea that Smart will probably be better in his second full season as a HC.

It won't alter what will happen. It will be interesting to see if many here forget the 3rd place pick if UT finishes 1st or 2nd.

3rd place prediction means little or nothing imo. Look at last season, the media pundits were dead wrong yet again. Fact is, the East is wide open for the taking, everybody has multiple question marks, and 3 teams could make a case for playing Bama in the SECCG.....I think we're definitely one of the 3. We're arguably the most talented of all the teams and could "sneak up" on some people since our expectations have been universally lowered a good bit.

Haha, not me.
I was having a little fun. It's meaningless and worthless predictions and no true way to make sense of them and wouldn't accomplish anything if you could.
But im stuck in the hospital and you wanted to put in the effort to connect the imaginary dots and give the hidden meaning, I figured what the hell, let's watch. It passed some time.

Maybe we posted in the bball forum by mistake.

Fire Butch. Fire Holly. Fire Barnes. Bad losses. Mad fans. High drama. Lower expectations. Hurd quit. Diamond quit. Parker quit. Next year. It all blends together after a while.

Yep. It's all a meaningless diversion until the first snap in Sept. Who cares what the heads predict? Who cares who Booger picks? Who cares if UK has upward momentum? Who cares if they don't? Who cares if Butch is disappointed... is not disappointed... is disappointed but doesn't want to say he's disappointed?

Sorry to hear you're in the hospital-- hope it's nothing too serious.

Does anyone know how many times the media has correctly predicted the East Division Champion over the last 15 years? 2 times.

I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate, but it sounds good and I think I heard it somewhere.

Seems accurate..... The media SUCK!!!!!!
