SEC coaching shake up coming?

When someone says “this decade,” what does that mean to you?
Why does everything have to be re-explained to you? I understand that you said "this decade". My post was calling attention to the fact you used that phrase to make it sound like Cal has had a longer period of coaching ( in specific post season) decline than he actually has.
Moreover, and to the original point, he hasn't necessarily been "consistently" out done by Pearl.

I reality, " this decade" Cal has had exaclty one less NCAA post season win than Pearl. ONE.

I know, I did. Louisville and Ohio State are top ten all time programs and Houston & Syracuse are top 15. San Fran isn’t even in the stratosphere.

USF has 3x NCs. Houston was #1 in the final polls a couple of times but lost in the NCAAT those years. USF is in fact “in the stratosphere”.

They have two NCs - 1956 and 1957, when, as you said yourself, the NIT was more prestigious - and have been to the NCAAT only twice in the last 43 years. And I didn’t forget the 3rd FF, which was in 1955. 😂

Louisville has 10 FF and 3 NC since then - all but one since 1980. Ohio State has 7 FF and 1 NC since then . Even Houston, who has never won a title, has 6 FF since then.

Nowhere close to the stratosphere. Ask 100 people and 99 would agree. But you believe what you want to believe. 😎

5 years is a pretty long time. When is the last decade Kentucky had fewer tournament wins than Auburn? Also, what happened the last time Kentucky played Auburn in the tournament? How are their respective teams looking this year?

History doesn’t begin with your preferred date. Those with little understanding of history being ignorant of the Dons’ program doesn’t cancel when it was dominant.

I've already established it was 3

( btw even I granted you all 5 , guess what?
Pearl and Cal both had a 25 win seasons going in 20' and BOTH sucked it up Covid year 21'. Pearl was 13-14 👀),

and now that I have also established Pearl hasn't done anything more than Cal in those same 3 years, you now move the goal posts to necessarily this year and Cal being at a completely new program.

The season hasn't even ended yet, but I'll be cool
( despite what he shown "this decade" in the post season) and go ahead and give you Pearl has a successful tournament this year and Cal loses first round ( he's still last four in at the time of this post).
All you have proven in regards to your original statement between Pearl and Cal ( which is ONLY reason I/we are even discussing Cal) is that Cal has had ONE better season than Calipari.
ONE better seson. lol
That hasn't even necessarily been proven yet!

That is a far cry from what you originally posted. A far cry from " consistently churning out good teams that rival or exceed what he has done in the past".

Someone else in this thread has already mentioned this
Pearl has made it out of the first weekend only once in the last 14 years.
until this year, Pearl hasn't been doing anything post season NCAAT at Auburn apart from that 18-19' season.

They were dominant in the 50’s. To lump them in the same boat with programs who have consistently done it decade after decade after decade is asinine. Heck, throw CCNY in there with Louisville and Ohio State while you’re at it. But you do you.

My doing me was saying that IU minus the Bob Knight era is comparable to San Francisco. I don’t think that you understand that part.

Pearl has more wins and more tournament Calipari this decade. Also currently has the number 1 team, just beat Calipari’s bum team, and is doing it at a worse program historically than Cal has coached at for the past 20+ years. There’s no question who’s stock is higher and whose stock has been falling this entire decade, since one of them has the national championship favorites and the other just got run out of town less than a year ago.

I see you've added some emotion to your argument now.

I guess you looked and seen where Pearl had a crapper season in 2021 himself, uh? lol
That's no use to you, 2020 was canceled, and
the last 3 years they essentially had the same NCAA Post Season records. Neither has made it out of the first weekend.
Your original argument has fell apart, my guy.🙂

Also,
This statement here :

Pearl is consistently churning out good teams that rival or exceed what he has done in the past.
Is not even factually accurate, btw. In that same "decade" Pearl hasn't rivaled or exceeded what he has done in the past. Quite the contrary.

Way back when Pearl made it to the elite 8 one time and 1 time to a final 4. But guess what? That wasn't " this decade", so that doesn't help you, and if you look at his post season "this decade" you're going to laugh if you try to compare the two time periods.
The real funny thing is you are going to claim that over this "last decade" that is Cal has been on a "downturn", then you are going to have to argue coach Pearl has been on one, too. Facts!
😎

Pearl has the number one team in the country. This team rivals or exceeds his previous teams. He has won the SEC tournament this decade. He has won the SEC regular season this decade. Those teams rivaled or exceeded many of his previous teams.

Meanwhile, Calipari was run out of Kentucky. If you can’t tell a difference between the two, you’re dumb. There’s no way around it. The fact that you’re still arguing that Calipari is doing as well as the coach leading the number 1 team is absolutely insane.

But flamed out in the post season, uh?
What if that happens again this year?
Probably won't, but what if? I'll tell you what if, your argument that is now dependent on this single season would be 100% destroyed and may be in the running for one of the worst ones of the year.

Even if tho, his teams " this decade" prior to this year still haven't had any success in the post season, and we both know that's how coaches are ultimately measured looking back.
Nobody ever even ends up remembering who necessarily won the regular season.

3rd time, Cal is at a new school. He has young guys ( star player out for the season) and he still managed to be winning against Pearl on the road with less than 3 minutes to go last night.
If Pearl was that much better he should have blew him out like Barnes did. Same for Pope. That was super embarrassing for both.
Not to mention Pearl has a team that has been around for almost all of " this decade".

We ultimately don't know what will happen come post season, so I'd be real careful making arguments that hinge on Pearl making it to Elite 8 (or even sweet sixteen given last few years) or farther. He hasn’t done that ' this decade", remember?

Arkansas could still get hot, too.
I don't look for it to happen, but you never know in March. Stranger things have happened.
I do know next year they look to be really good with many players coming back and 2 top ten 5-star recruits poised to run the show for Cal. I definitely wouldn't write him off.

Pearl will be in a rebuild year, so he better get it done this year or next couple or he may be the next one ran out of town on a rail.

Putting “this decade” in quotes doesn’t make your “dumb argument” look any less “dumb.”You’re really trying to sit here and argue that “Calipari” is on as strong of footing as Pearl when one is probably “NIT bound,” and the other is the “favorite to win the championship” and “likely #1 overall seed.” My argument isn’t just based on this single season, but rather, “this decade” when Pearl has more wins, more tournament wins, has won a regular season championship and conference tournament, can currently claim scoreboard, has a better team this season, and hasn’t been run out of town in the past 11 months. There is not one single element where Calipari has the advantage over Pearl “this decade.”

And lol at saying “Calipari had a late lead” as if that strengthens your moronic argument. You act like basketball isn’t full of bad teams that have a lead late over good teams or that a 66 year old who used to go to Final 4s last decade when he was good should be claiming moral victories because he kept a basketball game kinda close in a loss that pushed him to 15-11 and 4-9 in conference play.

You really need to learn to walk away and just admit when you’re wrong, even if it’s just to yourself. You are making an absolute fool of yourself by trying to argue that John Calipari has not experienced a downturn in the 2020s and that he has had as good of a run since 2020 as Bruce Pearl has.

"This Decade" are your words.
I know it's silly to try to use that to bolster my argument. You're preaching to the choir.
I was just highlighting it for sarcasm.
The fact is, Pearl and Cal have BOTH haven't done anything in the last few years Post Season NCAA. You can sit and pretend Pearl not making past the first weekend of the NCAAT is a huge accomplishment that rivals the years he made it to the Elite 8 and final 4. It's dumb, tho.
You're argument hinges on that, that's what makes it dumb, too. Winning the regular season one year doesn't change that either.
Last season was a complete embarrassment for Pearl. If he had been at Kentucky with his Post season record " this decade " they would've been calling for his job, too. Especially since he hasn't won a Natty for them like Cal did Kentucky. His leash would have been even shorter.

You keep using the quotes as if a 5 year sample size is small or illegitimate. He was at Kentucky for 15 years. 5 of his worst 6 seasons there were his last 5 years there. This year at Arkansas is worse than all but one year he had at Memphis or Kentucky. There simply is no question as to whether or not his results took a downturn. This isn’t up for debate, and there is no context whatsoever where you are right. You are objectively wrong if you are arguing anything else.

After this year, Pearl will likely have 2 SEC championships and at least one SEC tournament title (possibly a 2nd) this decade. May lead the SEC in total wins this decade as well at season’s end. Please explain how that doesn’t rival what he did at Tennessee and what he did last decade at Auburn. He has had a little less NCAA Tournament success, but the regular season and conference tournament results have been right on par with what he has always done. Calipari, on the other hand, has been a far cry from when he was winning the SEC 5 out of 11 years and winning the SEC Tournament 6 out of 10 years. He has done neither since Covid.

And I don't know why you keep using "5" years in your Pearl and Cal comparison.
You have to be thick in the head for me to again have to explain this.
2020 was cut short and 2021 was a Covid year, and EVEN IF you use those years for a comparison (please for the love of God don't miss this point again)----->they don't help you in ANY way because they had the same outcomes.

Post Season NCAAT is the only comparison that matters. Cal was ran out of Kentucky not because he couldn't win in the regular season, but because of his post season performance. If you don't believe me go to Rupp Rafters, make a post to ask them, and report back.

I'll reiterate.
2020- BOTH Pearl and Cal had 25 wins.
Season was cut short. You can garner absolutely NOTHING in respect to argument this season.

2021- BOTH of them had LOSING seasons. BOTH of them. Nothing here to help your argument.

2022- Neither made it out of the first weekend.
2023- Neither made it out of the first weekend.
2024- Neither made it out of the first weekend.

Nothing in those 3 years helps your argument.

This season is all you can cling to and it is still in play.
Like I said, even if Pearl ends up performing better, it is ONE year. One single year-----> not 5!
And again, this season where you have already given Auburn a SEC championship and a Natty, isn't even over yet!

Why do I even bother to mention this?
Because what happened last year at Auburn after Pearl won the SEC championship? I'll tell you what my friend,

--->Bruce Pearl SHAT the bed in the first game of the NCAAT. <---
Last year's season was a failure for Pearl, not a success. A failure.

Go ask Auburn fans how happy they were with their season last year. They will be sharpening their pitch forks if he shites the bed like that again this year, and the last 2 before that. Believe that.

Lastly,
It's very EASY to explain to you how his teams "this decade" don't rival ( and certainly not "exceed" lol) his years at Tennessee and Auburn in the 2010's.
At Tennessee he ALSO won a SEC championship but flamed out that year in the NCAAT. The year everybody considers a success was the year he went to the Elite 8 (2009-2010), NOT that 2008-2009 season.
The year everybody agrees was his best at Auburn was the 2018-19 season where he went to the Final FOUR. That year was a success not because he won the SEC championship, but because he went to the FINAL FOUR.

In both " decades" Pearl was able to win a Conference championship, but what sets the two decades apart, Legion of Miserable?
Ask yourself this?
I'll tell you what------> Pearl actually was successful in the post season of NCAAT.
Are you remotely capable of understanding this??? This "decade" Pearl has not done what you claimed ------>
Pearl is consistently churning out good teams that rival or exceed what he has done in the past.

This is False, bro. Untrue.

Let me ask you this.

Who has more wins this decade? Who has won the SEC more this decade? Who has won more SEC tournaments this decade? Who has won more games in the NCAA Tournament this decade? Who currently has a better team? Who won the last time they squared off? Who is building on his resume as the best coach in his school’s history? Is the answer to any of those questions John Calipari? No? So wtf are you going on about?

You’re making things up like “Pearl is one tournament loss away from the hot seat” and “nobody considers Pearl winning the SEC a success.” You’re full of shít dude. Dead ass wrong on every account, and you still have the nerve to act condescending about it. Benito Mussolini’s mistress spent less time bent over backwards while slurping an overrated Italian than you do.

I'll glady address this post after you address the points I made my last post.
Specially the one about Coach Peal and Coach Cal's NCAAT records this decade being essentially equal.
Also, did Bruce Pearl shite the bed last year or not? Would you consider Barnes losing the first round after he won the SEC championship a success? If Barnes had done that would it " rival or exceed " what he done last year?

Their records are not equal. Pearl’s tournament record this decade is better.

Barnes didn’t lose in the first round after winning the SEC. If he did, it would be a successful regular season and a bad tournament. If he had, then it would rival the year he lost to Loyola and the year he lost to Michigan.

Bruce had a bad loss in the tournament. He didn’t lose to the Sisters of the Poor with a bunch of lottery picks and other 5 stars though, which is what Cal has done for years. With NIL legal now, Cal is cooked.

If Barnes gets bounced in the first round of the NCAAT this year you seriously, with a straight face, going to tell me that anyone on this site is going to say that he had a successful year?
What about pundits on T.V? Other fan bases??
Be real man....

Even if he wins the SEC tournament, nobody will give a sh!t if he gets bounced in the first round like Pearl and Cal did last year. I can promise you that!
All you will hear about is how he can't win in March, and you know this will be the case, too.
If that did happen, people would have a point, too. Why is that? It's because sh!tting the bed in March matters way more than what you accomplish in the regular season.
You'd hear the same rumblings ramp up about Pearl if he shites the bed again this year when March Madness starts. Mark my words if that does happen.

No doubt the sunshinepumpers would be trying to cover for him like you are in regards to "this decade", but the fanbase as a whole won't be buying it /fooled ( BTW, Pearl essentially had the same star guys last year as this so that was weird you trying to pretend they didn't have some some really good talent last year/didn't blow it as bad in regards).

The " can't get it done in March anymore" chatter will be extremely loud in Auburn. Because ultimately, that's how the TOP head coaches are measured when it's all said and done. EVERYBODY knows this. (Everybody but you apparently).

All the regular season accomplishment in the world won't make up for doo-dooing the court in March. Especially repeatedly doo-dooing the bed in March. I'd really wish you'd at least be honest and admit this. You won't though because you're not being honest.

Bruce not only underperformed in the tournament last year, he did the last two years before that (or this "whole decade" as you put it). He hasn’t achieved the same success he did "last decade". He's trying to fix that this year, but it hasn't happened yet. The fact you won't at least concede this point tells me a lot about you.
It tells me you aren't here for an honest discussion.💯%

Is the answer to any of those questions John Calipari? No? So wtf are you going on about?

You’re making things up like “Pearl is one tournament loss away from the hot seat” and “nobody considers Pearl winning the SEC a success.” You’re full of shít dude. Dead ass wrong on every account, and you still have the nerve to act condescending about it. Benito Mussolini’s mistress spent less time bent over backwards while slurping an overrated Italian than you do.
as I promised, a response to your other post...

The reality is Pearl’s and Cal's post season NCAAT are the same "this decade". Almost identical. As far as regular season, one may have more wins in one season and the other may have more wins in another ( which is the case this decade btw) , but ultimately it matters not. Regular season wins only matter becasue of March. They are the means to get you to March. (hell the NCAAT really doesn't even care about what happens in Conference games)
They certainly don't erase crapping the bed in March.
Same with Pearl having the one SEC championship this "decade" . It in no way makes up for the fact Pearl underperformed in March NCAA "this decade".
It's basically just bragging rights in conference for a year. Nobody else in other conferences or general people watching March Madness even pay attention to it.

Yes, Pearl did win a SEC championship last year.
Big whoop dude, Cal has won those back to back to back to back at Kentucky, and nobody cares LOL not even Kentucky fans🤣 . They are meaningless in respect. And SEC championship in 2022 wouldn't have saved his job.
He also has 15 division 1 conference championships in his career, and 6 final 4 appearances. Pearl has 1 lol. Way more overall success in the NCAAT, too. Not to mention the Natty trophy that sits on his mantle at his house.

Comparing them straight out is silly and why you chose to attempt reduce it down to the last 2-3 years (don't make me explain the 20' and 21' one thing again or I am done talking to you), but as I have told you, what makes this argument silly is the fact they both flamed out this decade when it was for all the Marbles.
Pearl would trade all his regular season titles at Auburn for that one NCAA trophy, dude. So would Barnes. You become a made man once you win that trophy.

Regular season performance didn't get Cal fired, 3 " bad" NCAAT performances ( same as Pearl in those same 3 years) did and I think you know that even if you are too stubborn to admit it😏.
Cal began to only care about getting guys to the NBA, and didn't care about March anymore.
This is what is responsible for his poor NCAAT performance the last 3 years. Like I said, winning an SEC championship in 2022 wouldn't have saved his job. Winning one in 2024 wouldn't have either, ftm.

The fundamental difference between me and you is I could care less if Pearl wins a couple more games than Cal or Barnes in a season, or vice-versa. I also could care less if Pearl, Barnes, or Cal wins a SEC championship if they follow it up with a bed sh!itting come March Madness.
I think most everyone but you would agree with this, too.

As Kentucky correctly tells us every year we happen to have a few more wins than them or even win a SEC title,

" At KY we don't hang regular season title banners, we hang NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE BANNERS!"

This attitude exactly why Cal got the boot. It may surprise you but the same fate awaits Pearl as Cal if he sh!ts the bed come NCAAT time this year. Fans will start getting very vocal about this, I guarantee it.

Auburn or Tennessee will never truly even think about being a Blue Blood school until we/they can get that Natty. This is why it it so important to win in March when it counts, and this is one thing I give credit to KY fans for knowing. They know March is the only thing that matters. This is why they all don't care a bit to just sit some of their starters this year so they can heal up before the real tournament begins.

Arkansas Athletic director knows more than you, dude. They didn't hire coach Cal because they thought his better days were necessarily behind him. They hired him because of his outstanding proven ability to win. Not just reg. season to get to March, but actually in March when it counts.
It probably won't be this year, but I would bet you money Cal makes another run in March.
Like I also told you, it won't surprise me at bit if it was next year. Not likely all things considered, but it could actually even be this year.
