He hasn’t even beaten a good team just those with losing records? He needed a miracle to beat Florida international. Hard pass along with his mediocre record at ole missHe beat a ranked va tech team and lost on a missed field goal at the end to a 8-3 nc state team, with literally a roster full of 2 stars. Thats coaching. He beat a western Kentucky team that has a better record than several of the teams we lost to this year.
It all boils down to coaching. Freeze can coach and Pruitt can't.
Pruitt will get to the 7 or 8 win mark next year and you don't have to pay him and Freeze. Freeze has Covid now so allow him to recover and not get his hopes up that Tennessee will call him with an offer. Vandy will give him a cursory interview and that will be about it.
DP I have always valued you and a few other known connected posters on here. I hope you can answer my question. This program desperately needs several 7-8 win winning seasons to get really boost recruiting and to stabilize the program. I realize Freeze has had some issues in the past, but knowing he can walk in and more than likely get you to the 7 win mark in year one and knows what he is doing and can develop players. Can you tell us why we would pass on this option and pursue another coach that more than likely we would hope can develop players and hope that they may get to the 7 win mark? Thanks.
No way you or others are going to like what he says. I agree with him that Freeze isn't high on many schools want list.DP I have always valued you and a few other known connected posters on here. How do you know that he's not cheating at Liberty? Did he change character in just a few years? I always heard that it was hard to change a person.I mean he's not cheating at liberty. He's still putting up 30+ on a couple of pretty good teams. We can barely put 10 on the board against $hitting teams. We've been in purgatory for almost 20 years. I dont care really what we have to do to do get to Atlanta at this point. People still remember Reggie Bush being the best player not that he got his Heisman taken away. I could care less. We live in a different world now. Win at all cost and worry about the bs later.
Some of you guys hold onto the most ridiculous thoughts about Majors getting fired.Philip Fulmer loves being the face of the Athletic Department, much like he loved being the face of the football program. I feel at some point he is gonna cut ties with JP just to save his own skin, after all, that is his M.O. Dude will backstab anyone to retain his position![]()
In your opinion who is on the short list of consideration? Butch found fools gold a few years and then the wheels came off and he couldn't recover. Pruitt is headed down the same path. So who is stable proven that they can win and develop players with any amount of consistency. This program desperately needs that to stabilize this thing, The current top 5 players in this state are all going to other programs outside Tennessee and the current staff can't land any of them. Again I appreciate your insight.Pruitt won 7 last year. With the schedule they were supposed to play, his team would have won at least 6 this year, even as bad as they've been. So do you blow Pruitt out for a guy that has NCAA problems and went 9-3 twice as his high water mark to get the same result next year?
Freeze went 10-3 overall in 2015, including 5-1 against ranked teams. But in that same year, he lost to two unranked teams. Outside of 2015, he was 6-14 against ranked teams at Ole Miss. As a ranked team, he had four losses to unranked teams, three by more than a touchdown. After the 9-3 2015 season, he fell back to 5-7 before being fired for the off-field stuff.
The bottom line is, if they're going to fire Pruitt, they don't see the entirety of Freeze's resume as solid enough to take the heat that goes along with it. People don't want to hear it, but Freeze isn't as hot of a name among people that actually make the hires in college football as he is in the minds of fans that only want to remember a couple of wins against Alabama. That's a couple more than Tennessee has over them in that stretch, but it still represents his only significant success down there.
Then there's the question of will the SEC office allow him back in the league, at least without him serving some penalties. As I said in another post, the conference has to approve any coach in any sport that has had an NCAA Level 1 or Level 2 penalty against them. They did not approve a request from a school (not UT) to hire him as an OC two years ago.

Oh still promoting the fallacy that the SEC can prevent a school from hiring a coach I see. While I agree with most of the rest of your post it’s a blatant falsehood that the SEC commissioner can prevent a school hiring a coach.

Thank you Ricky! I don’t understand the Freeze love either. It’s like we’re walking down a grocery store with a list, see an item on sale and go “oh sh*t, I need that!” Freeze is a hot commodity right now because he’s doing wonders at Liberty, but while at Ole Miss, other than beating Saban, what else did he get? His SEC record alone should put him at the bottom of our list.He hasn’t even beaten a good team just those with losing records? He needed a miracle to beat Florida international. Can you provide a short synopsis on why Fulmer would not hire Freeze? I heard that before recently but am not familiar with the history.Nobody took me up on it. I stand by what I said yesterday, if Freeze is hired, that means Fulmer, Plowman and Boyd are all gone and whoever has replaced them is ok with losing two or more seven-figure donors.
