I love it when golfers try to act like athletes. It's so cute.
What? That this icon who people act as if was Jerome Brown or Warren Sapp at the collegiate level had passable numbers his first two years? He was great at UT for half a season. Period. People act as if he was Ron Simmons.
Of course, I can only speak for the guys who were at UT when I was there and several guys I went to high school with who played everywhere from Oral Roberts to Eastern Kentucky. There may be some schools with a bunch of LeBron James types on the links. I'm just saying I'd take my chances against most golfers outside of their sport.
Swimmers, on the other hand, were the bane of my existence at UT. They're way too well conditioned to be competing against mere mortals. There's nothing less enjoyable than looking up at a tie score and 5 minutes on the clock drenched in your own scotch tinged sweat and seeing the other guys aren't even breathing hard.

That's simply not true. UT's fanbase has tried to make Reggie White something he wasn't for 20 years. They act as if he was one of the great defensive linemen in college football history. He wasn't, save the last two months of his career. His NFL career has distorted what he actually was in college. That's the point. He was always complaining of nagging injuries at UT. He made comments that, had they been made by, let's say, Steve McMichael, would have ended his career and forever stained his legacy. He's simply not the icon he's portrayed as. Philadelphia Eagle and Green Bay Packer fans have far more reason to engage in ReggieWorship than UT supporters. He was great at UT for half a season. I also think he had a great career at Tennessee.
No one compared him to Warren Sapp or Jerome Brown. Besides, both probably have better stats than Reggie did in college, right? More career tackles and sacks?
I think it's more along the lines of people taking exception to the description of "massive underachiever", "malingerer" and "inconsistent" -- and the personal attacks of bigotry and the John Rocker comparisons.
We do agreee that Reggie's last season (or half season) was his best; 15 sacks is an incredible accomplishment.
I'm pretty sure I see the referee motioning you to the box for a five minute instigator penalty. I do think the quota on Reggie White debates has been met. It's bad form to go past five in attacks on sacred cows. Even Christopher Hitchens finally quit skewering Mother Teresa.I know. Who started this train wreck?
