Ruby Whitehorn dismissed from the team!

agree with part one entirely

But I also know that you can't reach everyone.
And none of us knows the conversations or the interactions that followed the incident, in private between Kim and Ruby,,only they do
No we don't and that it is even more reason for people to tread lightly on the "Good riddance; She got what she deserved" condemnations.

Her Instagram post suggest a very regretful and confused young women.

Some people gleefully, chest pounded "BYE" as these events unfolded and they could use some life reflection themselves.

So prophetic...

Sounds like there was a lot more going on with Ruby's mental well-being than most of us know or understand. Hopefully, she can turn this latest setback into a source of positive self-transformation.

Accepting responsibility is an important first step that not every one is willing to take. So, good on Ruby and all the best to you in your journey toward peace, happiness and meaningful purpose.
…the trudge to happy destiny…

I've had to grow a pretty thick skin over the years poo
It is what it is

Basketball is the most "what have you done for me lately" sport...memories are short
So,,,"next game up"
As a former high school coach I agree with you 100%. You have to have your standards that are not negotiable. Whitehorn had received a pass for her criminal act previously, a second violation sealed her fate. It also tells the team that as a coach you care but there are limits to your patience.

One should always hate to see when a young athlete squanders their opportunity due to inappropriate behavior, but she was a known risk to other recruiters and reportedly had an incident during her recruiting visit to Tennessee, yet we signed/paid her anyway.

Hopefully, the staff learns from this and does more due diligence in the future.

Tennessee has behavior clauses in their NIL. It’s a strike system. I suspect, there’s more we don’t know about that allowed the NIL to be voided.

Some people cannot quite understand that discipline does not have to be mean spirited and that one can discipline with empathy and care.

I am not sure these posters would have wanted this "let em burn in hell for their immature mistakes," applied to them when they were 21 or so.
Why not? When I was 21. I was working full time and not drinking or doing drugs. Its not that hard to do. Quit making excuses. She has been given more opportunities than most and chose to be selfish. She got what she deserved.

I don't think people have adjusted their thinking about college sports to account for the NIL era yet. These are essentially professional arrangements now.

This NIL money is paid so that brands can associate themselves with excellence. They don't want their brand associated with anger, violence, lawbreaking etc... so it can hurt everyone if you let those things become associated with your program and it can happen immediately.

Ruby put out a really classy statement, and we all wish her the best. It is not like she was one of those players who is a cancer in the locker room where it is easy to part ways and a plus for the team to let her go. By all accounts she was a good teammate and a leader who was well loved and will be missed.

Here is wishing her all the best in the future.

“Known risk and reportedly “ by who?

The 4 or 5 years out was a quote from Maria’s 247 article, a transcription of Kim’s press conference earlier today.
She said that in the context that the current players are obviously going to have mixed feelings about this and, so, be more highly affected, because they know Ruby and love her and are super sad over her dismissal. Four or five years from now all our current players will have cycled out, so future players won't have this in their experiences.

I didn’t interpret it that way at all. What I interpreted was that she understands her actions now affect the program in 4-5 years. If you tolerate behavior like that now in year 1-2 you’re going to regret it in 4-5 when you have half your team acting like that because they think it’s ok and there were no consequences in the past.

It’s about setting a standard and she did that. Unfortunately Ruby made an example out of herself.
