Ruby Whitehorn dismissed from the team!

This is what I expected Kim to decide. She is no nonsense and true to her word.

Best of luck to Ruby. I think she will find a lot of the things she thought were important really weren't and she let her priorities get a bit out of whack.

Perspective can be a helluva gift if you learn the right lessons from situations like this one so hopefully she will take it as an opportunity for improvement.

I agree. Praying for Ruby as basketball is only a means to life. Hopefully she learns from this and becomes better. I’ll be interested to see where she lands or if she continues to play I believe that Kim will help her find a new home and somewhere that fits.

also, not to sound like a jerk, it’s gonna have to be next man or in this case woman up mentality. I could see a player like Deniya or Kaniya taking advantage of those minutes that were just freed up because that was probably 20 to 22 minutes game definitely. Also player like Kaiya also has a chance to see her minutes increase.

Again, not trying to be a jerk but maybe find some positive in this…

Sounds like there was a lot more going on with Ruby's mental well-being than most of us know or understand. Hopefully, she can turn this latest setback into a source of positive self-transformation.

Accepting responsibility is an important first step that not every one is willing to take. So, good on Ruby and all the best to you in your journey toward peace, happiness and meaningful purpose.

Gosh, just so sorry for everyone involved in this. So tough to see a young person lose out on opportunities and equally sorry to see an adult who obviously loves the youngster have to take away the opportunity.
Actions have consequences is a hard lesson but a very important one.
The most important thing here and now is for Ruby to not let this derail achieving her degree. She can so overcome this setback! Godspeed to her.

Get to play by the rules I hate it, but she should have known the consequences if she messed up. Coach did right thing so the others on team know what to expect is they get in trouble.
I don't know why this decision is so shocking to some after what Coach Kim said the first time after Ruby got into trouble. Just a reminder Ruby almost got dismissed then! Coach Kim has a standard here and she gave Ruby a second chance to correct them and she failed.

I love the decision. It's tough love and it sets a great example moving forward that we are all about the right things here at Tennessee. Lastly, people will know that Coach Kim is no nonsense and she's no pushover.

I just don’t think weed is that big of a deal. But I understand that she already was on thin ice and it makes her and the program look bad.
I have conflicting feelings about this.

I personally don’t think marijuana is that bad of a drug - and the fact that the laws on its use vary so widely from state to state (not to mention federal law) speaks to a wide range of opinions on this.

That being said, if it’s against Tennessee law and you’re on probation, I think Kim and the administration had no real choice except to dismiss her from the team.

That, and the time she was picked up by the police, demonstrated IMO a shocking lack of judgment.

Kinda harsh.
I agree the previous comment was unnecessarily harsh. While Coach's decision was necessary, one could still have empathy. I say good luck to Ruby and when one door closes another one opens. Perhaps, Ruby will transfer, if that is available to her, to another program for the 2026/2027 season and get her life, including basketball, on the right track. GBO.

Yeah. I wish the best for her.

"my priority is to uphold the respected reputation of the Lady Vols."

Hm. My hope would've been that the priority would've been to do what's best for all the people involved. Is this really it?
No one is above the team or university. She had her chance and blew it, or inhaled it, and she got what she deserved. Proud of the coach to do what needed to be done whether it hurt the team or not.

You’re not being a jerk. I love this attitude. Good can come out of mistakes.

I’m really not cool with the “got what she deserved” kind of talk. Ruby’s got some issues to deal with. I doubt her behavior has been the result of being a terrible person, right?
Some people cannot quite understand that discipline does not have to be mean spirited and that one can discipline with empathy and care.

I am not sure these posters would have wanted this "let em burn in hell for their immature mistakes," applied to them when they were 21 or so.

agree with part one entirely

But I also know that you can't reach everyone.
And none of us knows the conversations or the interactions that followed the incident, in private between Kim and Ruby,,only they do
