Mods if you want to move/delete the 2025 and sticky this one that would be great, thank you!

Current scholarship count:
9/15= 6 spots open

We had a full roster of 16 this past season, technically 15 is the limit but Hurst was allowed the year as an extra due to a single year waiver on roster cuts, he was a senior so back to 15 we go. We lose 3 seniors is Gillespie, Okpara and Abram, and for the purpose of this we are assuming Ament is headed to the NBA, if that changes I will obviously change this, but I don’t foresee that being the case with him widely mocked in the Top 10. So, losing 4/15 drops you to 11 returning players exiting the year and entering the portal season.

Returning scholarship players:
Campbell Duncan JR
Gavin Paul JR
Ethan Burg JR
Troy Henderson SO
Dewayne Brown SO

Incoming freshman:
Ralph Scott
Manny Green
Marquis Clark

Announced transfer portal departures:
Jaylen Carey SR
JP Estrella JR
Bishop Boswell JR
Cade Phillips JR
Clarence Massamba SO
Amari Evans SO

Announced transfer portal additions:
Tyler Lundblade SR

Projected lineup as is:
(Not looking to make an argument out of this, just an easier way to view the roster in a lineup form)

PG: Troy Henderson/Marquis Clark
SG: Ethan Burg//Manny Green
SF: Tyler Lundblade
PF: Ralph Scott
C: Dewayne Brown

On the Basilio show today he said that the staff isn’t interested in keeping Massamba or Henderson. They wanted to keep Estrella but weren’t willing to pay him $3 million plus. Around a $15 million budget to split amongst about 9 players.

Edit: towards the end of today’s show I think he said the total to spend will be $18-$20 million.

So removing Boswell gets us to 11/15 and still have 4 spots left for transfers? Guess we will see what the next few days bring if we have more departures.

With respect to Campbell Duncan and Gavin Paul, we are really down to:

Amari Evans
Dewayne Brown
Ethan Burg
Tyler Lundblade
Ralph Scott
Manny Green
Marquis Clark

We've lost 4 post players through graduation/portal and only have Scott added in. So I'm guessing we are going to add 3 posts with at least 2 of those needing to be high level impact players.

We obviously have to bring in an elite level PG.

After that there's probably some flexibility, but if you add in 1 more player that gives you 12 guys including the freshmen.

Edit: Think I'll just wait to see if we have anyone left at all before adding any more to this thread...

7/15 = 8 spots open (6 if the previous WO players are now counting, the way the grandfather clause was written in I honestly have no clue...but agree with bTo that Barnes will keep them on scholarship if he has to, especially if neither expects NIL/revenue sharing)

2-3 will go to forwards, one of those will be a traditional center
1-2 will go to true PG...ideally I'd prefer 2 myself and both being capable of scoring for themselves.
1 or 2 depending on how the other spots get filled I would think they'll want at least 1 elite scorer on the wing

9 of 15 spots right now. 6 to go get.

I hope we’ll get 6 really good transfers soon.

I hope that they’ve come to agreements with Evans, Brown, and Burg.

What a **** show college basketball has devolved into. Actually every NCAA sport. Show me the money!

Are NIL agreements for one season? Do they expire? Is it mostly talking with agents?

I’d guess that anything is in play at this point. Agents have the current advantage as schools (NIL collectives) haven’t been willing to push back on those that don’t fulfill their side of the contracts. The players currently have the upper hand. With the massive dash to the portal the schools should be able to push back with huge penalties for leaving, multi year deals, non compete agreements, and other elements negotiated in contracts.

Players becoming school employees instead of ICs with collectives could roll it back a bit, but then private schools will have an advantage.

What a mess. I’ve expected college sports to morph into minor leagues for the NFL and NBA but not like this.

I was thinking the $12-15 million number being thrown around sounds low if we’re serious about fielding a legit F4 contender. If all these guys we’re letting go want unreasonable amounts, the guys we’re going to pursue in the portal are going to want the same. It’s a little surprising that we don’t think highly enough of any of our outgoing transfers to pay to keep them. I hope it means we’re willing to spend what it takes to build an elite roster. If we are outbid for a bunch of guys and end up with a team largely of “bargain” players we hope will outperform their cost, it will be a disappointment.

Maybe they spend $12-$15 million on two very high level players and then spend another $5 million to surround them with adequate role players. Estrella, Evans, Phillips, Boswell, etc are role players that aren’t good enough to demand the kind of money that they want. Good for them if they find deep pockets somewhere else with that big of a need for their ability.

Why are people saying that type of money? That's for a team not individual players, right? I think we are more likely talking about 1-2 MIL per person for the higher ups.. then 500-750k for bench/role players.

I'm surprised ESPN hasn't had some sort of of "build your roster" deal online. Like you pick your budget and you have 3 options. Build through recruitment/freshmen , build through transfers, or a MIX. Wouldn't that be fun? haha!

With a $20 million budget it makes sense to go big on the first 8 or 9 in the rotation.

I think that we need 2 great players and use the balance to surround them with $1,000,000 role players.

Good luck finding anyone in the 1-2 million range that's even close to a starter
