Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Being worn out mentally and physically wasn’t our problem. We couldn’t make shots consistently enough which was partly due to an offensive scheme that desperately needs to be revamped and partly due to a lack of overall shot making ability.
Can it not be all three? Why not? But you combine all three and it states early exit.
At end of the season, you combine all three aspects and you see Vets Making passes without as much zip. Free Throw % dropped, 3pt% drop, failure to hold leads or close out games, longer periods of scoring drought and teams gearing up with defenses that shuts them down in Conference. Texas and Duke wins were a lack of coaching by their coaches to identify how to shut us down and left the middle open of which we exploited.

It's all three.

If Phillips leaves for Auburn, the wheels are officially wobbling and in danger of coming off under Barnes. Phillips was supposed to be our get buckets one-and-done guy we had been missing in years past. He was never that guy and he actually regressed over the course of the year. Was it Phillips? Was it Barnes? Was it the injury? I don’t know. But Phillips leaving UT for Auburn, or another program, and not the NBA is an indictment of the Vols’ program. I hope it’s a rumor and Phillips stays and becomes a first rounder but this is concerning.

This is over-the-top .... You probably said the same thing when Huntley-Hatfield transferred.

This is a pre-NIL mindset. Phillips was the highest paid athlete at UT this year. If someone is desperate or values him a lot more than UT does, he’ll likely be interested in entertaining offers. UT doesn’t have unlimited NIL funds and has to build the best roster it can. That means trade-offs.

Oh no, the sky is falling. Talk about exaggeration. With the NIL and liberal transfer rules, this sort of thing will happen all the time now so we all might as well get used to it. If a player (or his mommy and daddy) think they aren’t getting the requisite playing time or exposure, there are going to be transfers in and out of these programs. (See Huntley-Hatfield.) There are always carnival barkers like Bruce who will promise these guys the world. Just the way it is. Welcome to the new world of college sports.

It’s one thing to lose BHH to OOC Louisville and an entirely other to lose JP to Auburn and Bruce Pearl. Of course the NIL and free transfer rules have changed the game dramatically. An issue is that Barnes hasn’t adjusted to the new rules. Also, Barnes really hasn’t converted with the 5* recruits he has landed and this defection will most certainly be used as fodder for negative recruiting against UT as yet further evidence that he cannot produce a T10 pick.

The joke is the overreaction by taking a rumor and pretending this is a done deal. Guys like you are the definition of clowns

I can't stand the people who act like they are insiders and don't tell us anything

Reason why is because they are attention speakers and don't know more than you and I.

Who in the world would tell these clowns anything lol.

Be careful pointing this out. There’s going to be posters pointing out that UT just went to the Sweet Sixteen and that Barnes is perfect and that anyone who doesn’t want to play for him is Judas and UT is better off without them no matter what and that the trajectory of this program is peerless.

Brother, don’t I know it…it’s a post-and-duck kind of topic.

Right before this past tourney, I polled my crew and asked them “Who would you rather have coaching this team heading into the tournament right now — Coach Barnes or Coach Pearl?” You can guess the answers.

What were the other big crew polls that night? Favorite funnel cake topping?

“Post-And-Duck”

If you’re so scared of defending your opinion, what does that say about the strength of your arguments?

Are you a barge captain?

Oh, you’re right. It’s a good thing. Great indication of a healthy program.

Players are leaving almost every program each year. It’s the new landscape. Texas lost a guy. Michigan lost a guy. UNC and Duke. Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona have us transfers. Not sure it’s the mark if a non healthy program. It’s everywhere.

Yet Pearl bowed out in the first weekend and Barnes made it to the second weekend - sounds like your crew isn’t very basketball savvy?
