So what about the years where his team was healthy? Y'all act like there isn't his whole career to base the fact he's mediocre as ****.
Your “mediocre as ****” comment about Rick Barnes is so wrong it is laughable. Always fun to come to Volnation and see how low the bar can go when it comes to unhinged comments.
He could be awesome, or he could be the next Shaka Smart.
I swear I want an AI to go through and show all the genius kneejerk reactions of people wanting to hire the coach that just had a good tourney form a mid-major and see how many of those actually went on to succeed at a higher school and how many never came close to repeating what they did.
When Rick decides to retire in 2 or 3 years, you might be right.Once again, there is no risk to Tennessee by talking to him. He may have used Georgia for a pay raise but Georgia isn’t paying top money for their basketball coach. It’s really simple…. Call Drew, offer him $6m and make him say no. If he says no, Baylor has to drastically fork more money over to him and Tennessee literally loses nothing. If he says yes. Tennessee makes the best hire in program history in terms of a coaching resumè

Also, what job opening has been open over the the last 5-10 years where a clear upgrade in some form or fashion has been presented to Drew aka Blue Blood or massive pay day?
He wasn’t taking the UCLA job because of conference issues… Duke and UNC were both going in house. Cal and Self are basically coaching until they say they are done….
Simply put, there has not been one school in the last 5-8 seasons that have come along after Drew where it isn’t a rebuild and said school is basically offering top 5 money…. If you think it’s impossible that Drew wouldn’t listen to a “job pitch”, you would make a horrible agent. He gets paid either way. One route is Baylor forks over cash or we get our guy. Literally zero risk.
You may have a better chance of pulling John Wooden from the grave than you would Jay Wright to coach here.
The Big Least is nothing more than a Mid Major…. Nothing more than a once glorified “P5” level conference. Creighton is very much a mid major institution.
I might agree if he hadn't won a natty at Baylor. Why leave a place where you're a living legend, have won at the highest level, and a statue will probably be built when you retire? I do agree that it's a zero risk option.
Oh, and there isn't an opening here and likely won't be unless Rick decides to call it quits.
Wonder if anybody here can give me a legit reason that’s Barnes coaches too hard and the players are scared to be aggressive and shoot the ball?
It’s really this simple I’ve listened to Barnes complain more about guys not shooting than I have shooting it. It really just comes down to the “casual fans” needing something to complain about. Which is fine, that’s what this forum is for. I just ask some people to bring some type of traction to their arguments.Barnes addresses passing up good looks far more often than taking bad shots. He does seem to have a short leash when players are sloppy with the ball and have unforced turnovers. He really hates it when players have defensive lapses. That’s the kind of discipline that wins a lot of ballgames.
He doesn’t need to be a sweaty, demonstrative sideline gorilla screaming at everything as his face turns beet red. The players know what is expected of them. He can let refs know that he disagrees with them while still giving them respect.
So how is it that they can play defense at that level and not be beat up and worn out? Maybe they're not beaten down mentally and that makes them more prepared for the physical challenges of a long season? Is Barnes just that tough to play for?SDSU and UCONN rank 4th and 8th in defensive efficiency respectively. Say what you will about Barnes offensive philosophy, but anyone who thinks great defense isn’t important is kidding themselves.
