Agree. Him retiring on his own time would be best. The problem is some coaches egos won’t let them retire until they’ve run the program into the ground. And before you know it the recruiting starts to fall off. If recruiting starts to fall off he may force our hand
Our dang fans made those bad hire, didn’t recruit well, and missed those tackles and blocks. Anybody who blames the fans probably thinks Pat Forde is a prolific sports writer. It’s perfectly reasonable for fans to demand more (see what that’s done for the level of basketball in this conference the last decade). I guess these guys wish we had continued to sit and take it and Schiano was coaching here.I am fairly certain Mike Hamilton, Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, Pruitt and a multitude of others are the reasons why our football team sucked for 20 years...I am 60% sure Volnation members had nothing to do with it....
He did.
But in a game like that you have to trust your SEC POY...... I get it if it's Mid January, but when all the marbles are on the table you have to let your stones hang.
I don’t know much about Poli, but don’t agree with his thoughts on Barnes. I do know he was very kind to Roger and that goes a long way with me in terms of character. I’m not going drinking with him though. Was that Poli Joe having an epic meltdown?
Edit: it was. Starts out demanding that Basilio answer his question about extending Barnes for a year, YES or NO!!! He ends by calling Barnes an a** hole. Barnes might not coach they way a lot of people would like, but an a-hole? Come on, Man.
That guy is unhinged. He has a carpet cleaning biz that he used to advertise on Basilio. I wouldn’t let him anywhere near my house even if he offered to do it for free. Something is not right with him.
I would be complaining about the call, not Rick's decision.Ha. Yeah, if he had fouled out on a terrible call 30 seconds into OT, then you would still be complaining about that.
When we hired Rick, I said that was a horrible decision. Of course, coming after Donnie, we needed a man with a solid reputation.
Looking back five years later, I was wrong. Rick has been great for Tennessee basketball.
To win in NCAA tourney, you must have strong guard play. Without Zig, we don't have that.
Therefore, Rick has satisfied my expectations. I don't see any way to beat Duke without a true point guard. Hope I'm wrong again.
This-if we can’t hire someone good post-Barnes retirement, it means either Barnes let the program slide, White failed to make a good hire, or both. It’s possible to want better results, want Barnes to retire here, and be positive that UT basketball is here to stay post RickNot calling for his head but this idea when Barnes is gone the program will fall off a cliff and we'll have to settle for a no name is ridiculous. Don't ask me who I would hire. That's Danny Whites job.
Bama/aTm/Mizzou/Vandy/Auburn/Ole Miss are even lower programs than UT and made good hires. Granted, Auburn hired a less than ethical coach and Ole Miss made a deal with the devil. Arky is probably a more historic program and they hired a good coach. Barnes is going to have a lot of competition his last few years and the wins won’t come as easy as they have been. He’s going to have to really want it to leave the program in the shape he built it. If those schools can get a quality coach-so can we. With the arms race our conference is in (especially when Texas joins for basketball), we don’t have a choice. I’m not advocating hiring a Oats/Beard type guy, but we’ll either hire a good coach and continue the program or slip into UGA/UF/USCjr territory.I’m thinking probabilistically, not deterministically. Our program is not a blue blood so there’s no guarantee we could get anyone better than Barnes. The best coaches will likely go elsewhere if given the choice. Heck, it took a lot of convincing and a raise for us to even keep Barnes from going to UCLA. All I’m saying is that IMO the probability of us getting a coach better than Barnes is very low.
Switching to zone and using our athletic line up allowed us to go on a run to close the first half. I can’t remember what defense we were in for the second half, but I’m assuming it was still zone and they just made adjustments.I think a lot of that was game flow, we extended the lead with Vescovi out, why risk it? Had we gotten down or tight game maybe he would’ve inserted him, he has before.

So is Rick or Danny White going to be the person responsible for hiring a coach like that when the other 6 schools I mentioned hired good coaches relative to where their programs are? Also-are we writing off the Florida coach in year one? Not sure that’s fair and I don’t see him as any worse than Mike White. This coach beat our team and Mike White couldn’t manage that. The gators had to hire a kid who was the team ball boy for some middle school.
