ReSeeding the NCAA needs to happen

Lots of people acting like the Cinderella teams need some kind of protection to help them live as long as possible. There really are only two Cinderella story's that I can think of in the past 10-15 years that made their "name" outside of the first weekend.

VCU and George Mason made the final four and captured most of our attention for the better. So let's look at those teams to see if my plan would have destroyed their path. VCU had to beat a number 1 seed Kansas to get to the final 4 while mason had to beat a 2 seed UCOnn team.

There are two main points to this.

1) Cinderella gain their attention a large majority of the time by upsetting blue bloods on the first weekend.

Mtsu
Valpo
UMBC
Etsu
Coppin state

To name a few that popped into my head.

My plan does zero to stop these things from happening

2) now let's look at the Cinderella teams that advance past the second weekend. They have done so by beating blue bloods anyway.
So my plan does nothing to change that either.

So all this championing for the little guy doesn't even fit here. The reseeding plan doesn't change anything for Cinderella. There would continue to be plenty of glass slippers if the bracket was reseeded

The mid-majors don't need any "protection". It's not protecting them to leave the system as it is. Nevada/Loyola will have to beat Kentucky in order to get to the Final Four. They started as a low seed. If they make it to the Final Four they will have earned it w/o being protected.

Agreed. They don't deserve anything after the first weekend. However as for comparing the 1 seeds left to the higher seeds the 1 seeds did earn an easier path than those that didn't

If we're going to try to make it as easy as possible for the 1 seeds, why not just copy the CFP and put them straight to the final 4? There's absolutely nothing wrong with the tournament as is.

Because it doesn't give us the best teams in the final 4.

Ask yourself this question.

Would you rather watch Loyalo vs Nevada or Nevada vs Duke?

If you want the best teams in the final 4...tell those teams to WIN!

Why screw over Nevada for doing what they were supposed to do....WIN

Ridiculous idea...BTW the "best" teams don't always have to win. It's what make sports fun. Play X-Box if you want that!

It's a simple choice.

1) reward a team like Villinova for being great all year

Or

2) reward a team like Kentucky because they won 2 games vs low seeds and were lucky enough to have been put in a part of the bracket that upsets took place.

You tell me which one earned it?

Nova got a #1 seed. Reward enough!
Play who is in front of you.

Both "earned" it!

Nova is a #1 seed and UK beat the teams that they had to beat! Period.

Ok both won their 2 games last week so they earned advancing to this week.

So take your pick with this question.

Which team earned the easier path to the final 4?

They "earned" their seeding and theoretically, the easier path to the F4. The rest is just chance on who you play.

I see where you're going, but why punish UK for #1,2,3,4 seeds sucking a$$ and losing when they should have won?

The more "chance" as you call it involved in a braket the less effective it is at finding the best team as the champion.

UK did nothing to be rewarded for teams losing they didn't play. West Vir is still in the tourney and a 5 seed. This braket is nothing more than a crap shoot as shown by WV being the "worst" team left in their part of the braket while Kentucky is the "best" with both being seeded as a 5.

All based on luck without anything done on the court to earn it. Which is a sign of a flawed braket.

Because this is based solely on his hatred of UK.

Screw the "best team" aspect.

I have a litany of examples in ALL sports where the best team doesn't win. You really think Philly was "better" than NE. Nova better than G'town in 85. Larry Mize better than Greg Norman??? Come on!

Philly had a much harder path to the SB than NE. Was that fair??

New England's weak division gives them an easy path to the playoffs every year. :eek:lol:

Lol.

Thanks for the examples of teams that actually played each other. You just made my point easier

I didn't make your point. You said to find a way for the best team to win a championship. The "best" doesn't always win, or even play for the championship. And it's fine the way it is

I agree to disagree with you, but respect your opinion.
The NFL does reseed, but it still isn't perfect.

I thought your whole re-seeding plan dealt with changing things after the first weekend?

I think the current system gives the #1 seeds an easier path so what's the problem?

Oh I agree with you that the lesser team wins sometime. It's exactly why I would be excited about watching L-Chicago vs Villinova this week which would happen under my plan.

No braket is perfect. I just think the NCAA needs to use the one that is closest to perfect and reseeding like the NFL rewards teams for great regular season. The NFL gives a bye AND still reseeds. Wild card teams still make it to the super bowl as well
