Regression in 2022

Regardless, our fan base needs to practice some patience and understand that progress doesn’t always mean winning more games than the prior year.

UT and Nebraska have been the most patient fanbases of this current century imo.

Yes progress is shown in wins and losses.
However, I do get what you're implying.

Overreact much? Remember when we smoked Northwestern during the 2016 Outback bowl and we had tons of momentum heading into the 2016 regular season? We looked unstoppable in our bowl win and we had tons of “momentum”. It’s a shame that for the most part second tier bowls are generally meaningless in terms of their impact on the following season
Everyone is also forgetting that Turnage and George Jr were out in addition to Taylor. That secondary was held together by a string.

We have basically 5 guarantee wins next year. After that there's a lot of unknown. Could beat Florida but we know how that normally goes. SC, mizz and KY could be better but again hard to really say for sure. SC is prob the dark horse of the 3. Bama returns a bunch so no chance. Ga loses quite a few but they'll reload so it's prob a loss. Lsu is another unknown. They have the talent for sure but BK just seems way out of place there. 7 should be the floor. Teams have a year of film on CJH now can they make adjustments on defense . Is our defense going to be hot garbage again?

Before this year I said 6 was the floor. Our schedule was weak. The only 2 I had as 50/50 were pitt and KY and we split those. Figured ol Miss would win. Sec will be intriguing next year. A&M could shock some people. Does Arkansas take another step up? I'm ready!

Then those DC’s better figure out a way to play fast or keep flopping, because there is no gimmick, just a pace that defenses can’t keep up with.
GBO!!
Loyola Marymount averaged 122 ppg and still couldn't get to the final 4. Basketball vs football I know. We broke a school record and finished with 513 points. That's a bad season for some recent teams. 2019 lsu put up 726. 2020 Bama put up 630. OU and OSU have put up around 700. Bama will put up over 600 this year and their receiver core isn't nothing like they've had recently. 2013 Florida state put up 716. 2008 Oklahoma put up 713 and still lost to Florida. We're just starting to catch up with the times. Biggest difference is it doesn't matter if you score 45 if you give up 48. We only averaged 18 ppg vs the big 3.

-with pickett gone pitt will def be easier competition
-UF coming to knoxville looks like it'll be in our favor (yes, i know my history)
-LSU is getting a makeover

i can see us getting more than 7 wins next season.

Very good analysis and opinion. Some seem to think our record should be much better (9 or 10 wins). While that isn't impossible, I don't think it is likely. Our offense should be good again, but how good depends on the line. It hasn't been good in years, and wasn't this year either. Better pass protection and consistent run blocking is needed to be consistently better in big games. The defense has major deficiencies. Some of you think we can become great by snatching transfers and junior college players. Everybody is competing for the studs in the portal, so who is to say we will get any difference makers or not. We got a few good recruits, but you can't expect them to be dominant as freshman. Plus, you can't assume we will be significantly better just because our players will have another year of experience because you can say the same thing about every team on our schedule. I hope we win 10+ games next year, but 7 or 8 is more realistic. If we do great in the portal and can avoid critical injuries next season, then another win or two becomes more feasible.
