While averaging 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals per game for Cleveland (Tenn.) High School, D.J. Bowles also is finding the time to check out some colleges.

The 6-foot-1 point guard visited Tennessee this past weekend, is slated for Georgia Tech this weekend, Murray State the following weekend and Georgia the weekend of February 18. He previously visited Georgia Tech, Central Florida and Chattanooga.

Offers are in from Central Florida, Murray State, MTSU, Morehead State, Kennesaw State, Chattanooga and Wright State.

Tennessee and Georgia will visit his school for the second time each later this week. Georgia Tech, Central Florida, Penn State, MTSU, Marquette, LSU, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Kennesaw State, Wright State, Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech are other schools that have checked on Bowles this year.

espn write up on him as of august 2011...

Strengths:
This youngster is maturing right before our eyes and has grasped the point guard spot with abandon. Bowles has an outstanding outside stroke and will keep defenses honest as he can pull-up from anywhere and drain it.

Weaknesses:
Bowles must continue to perfect his role as the leader of the offense. He came a long way from a scoring threat to embrace the new position and with his work ethic and desire he will continue to pursue his dream.

Bottom Line:
His ability to shoot allows him to very effective with the ball in transition and his decision making from the lead guard spot has improved immensely in the past couple of seasons.

Any new updates with Mitchell?

We interviewed him for our schools announcement video. He talked about the all the offers he got and mentioned Tennessee first. Off camera we asked him of he could give us a top 5 and he said he could give a top 15 but that after he took some visits he would definitely know where he wanted to go.

We also talked to him about Stokes and he said that stokes was his best friends and they talk after every game. Sounds like good news to me but it's nothing concrete

Really appreciate it.

He's ours if we find an open scholly.

Him, Maymon, and Stokes next year would be unstoppable.

you really think we are in that good of shape for him?

with that said we have to get guard help i dont care if we dwight howard and andrew bynum down low, we have to have some guards to help out and keep defenses honest.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. How many ways does a scholly open?

I'm assuming a kid graduates, transfers, gets kicked off etc. but are there others?

no thats pretty much it.

we have 2 graduating, so that gives us 2 available
we have 2 incoming so now we are back to 0

most on here think that atleast 1 or 2 players will be leaving the program in the off-season and thats why this staff is continuing to recruit 2012 prospects.

The way we seem to be pursuing guards leads me to believe that Washpun may very well have one foot out the door as well BTNO. Time will tell

i just dont see how it could be seen any other way. i would be very surprised to see washpun here next year after all this has been coming out about our staff pursuing other guards.

Agreed... tbh, I haven't been too impressed with Wes anyway. He was supposed to be an elite athlete and shut down defender and he isn't any quicker than Golden and hasn't really been a great defender. He can jump through the roof though

he is a raw athlete but we can find a guard that is much more polished then he is, and wont have to wait around a few years to see results. i honestly think CCM is surprised by how much success they are having in drawing interest so far. i think he really thought that it was going to take a few years before they would start drawing the interest from the level of recruits that they currently are. i would guess if he had last years class to do over again he would not have brought in wes or dwight, JMO.

Nichols will be coming to UT again this weekend. Sindarius Thornwell will be there as well.

Big time weekend. CCM targeting some guards and wings clearly early on making its priority, that's good to see. This '13 class is going to be very exciting to watch build and the anticipation of who will committ. I can't wait!

How many schollies available in 2013, assuming Stokes declares for the draft? Quite a few, right?

as it sits now our juniors are...

mcbee
maymon
hall
miller

so it can change as some think miller will leave after the year, but if he doesnt and roster stay intact and stokes leaves next year we will have 5 scholarships. of course, if miller and wes were to leave and we saved the scholarships for next year it could be as many as 6. somewhere in the 4-6 range is a safe bet.

That'll be a fairly crucial class for Martin then. No telling how 2012-2013 goes for the Vols at this point, but 2013 looks like almost all of Bruce's boys will be out and 4-6 new faces in the mix.

yea the 2013 class will really set the tone for the next 5 years of UT basketball IMO. he is in on some top talent in that class and will have a multitude of scholarships to hand out, we do already have the PG landry committed who many are really in love with so its nice to already have your PG figured out. CCM can concentrate on the 2-5 positions now on the recruiting trail, top 10 class maybe even top 5 isnt out of the question with the amount of guys we are in on. i think some of they keys to how we do in that class will be...1. do we show improvement next year, recruits want to see improvement 2. how does the development of stokes go, if ccm develops him into a lottery pick that looks great 3. i hate to say it because i know you'll disagree, but how does memphis do, this year and next. if they miss the tourney both years alot of that talent we are in on in memphis may look harder at UT.

Can we get these players profiles put in their VN threads like in the football recruiting? Mods or the person who started the threads?
