This is a great post and very accurate. Also, if you read up on a group called the ISA (Intelligence Support Activity .. or just known as "The Activity"), they are involved in EVERY US mission whether it's war time or special ops. But yes, Delta and DEVGRU are just the baddest dudes out there .. them and British SAS (and to a lesser extent, SBS) are just on another level. Special Forces are the Army equivalent to the rest of the SEAL teams but having been Army and did some work with the green berets in training and "motivation", I am a bit biased towards them.

Air Force 24th STS assets are often embedded with those teams as well.

While CAG the new name for Delta is 100% the Army's they are made up of soldiers from all the military branches. They also fall under the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) which means they could be tasked by JSOC to do anything.

Delta recruits and selects from other Army units.

They are an Army unit, made up of Army soldiers.

We will have to agree to disagree. Because that is just not true.

While they are an Army unit they are combined of personnel from other military branches not just Army.

Delta fights “alongside” other units all the time. But the overwhelming vast majority of Delta operators come from the 75th Ranger Regiment & Army Special Forces.

Could there be a couple of Marine Force Recon guys in Delta? Maybe. But they would be very very few, if any.

I just asked my cousin. He's currently a staff sergeant sniper in the Army Infantry...

Delta Force is comprised of Green Berets, 75th Rangers, 82nd Airborne, MARSOC, and SEALs that have risen to the cream of the crop to receive additional investment training... all are battle-hardened veterans... the typical age is around 33-37 after training is done.

That's why Delta is considered the elite of the elite... a squad will have varied backgrounds with different skillsets and specialties... if you ever see a Delta guy, shake his hand and buy him a beer.

DEVGRU Operators are afforded the opportunity to train anywhere, anytime. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they “trained” alongside Delta... doesn’t “make” them Delta.

Delta is the most elite Army unit
DEVGRU is the most elite Navy unit

Neither is “more elite” than the other.

They are “Task Force Green” & “Task Force Blue” respectively under JSOC Command.

Didn't say DEVGRU, said SEAL... DEVGRU is the elite SEAL unit... there are SEALs IN Delta Force

If you see any SF unit in a bar... shake his hand and buy him a beer... I'm not arguing eliteness level... that's super childish and disrespectful lol

Absolutely, any of them are awesome. I was in the Marines, and we did a NATO exercise in Norway. Some of the baddest dudes I ever met were the crash fire rescue guys. USAF version of special forces. They were basically trained to rescue downed pilots from behind enemy lines. I never see them mentioned in SF conversations, but they are just as deserving as any of respect.

You literally just said “that’s why Delta is considered the elite of the elite”.

DEVGRU pulls from the SEALs, which is an elite unit... so DEVGRU is the elite of the elite as well...

Delta pulls from all the branches... DEVGRU pulls from the Navy only... that's the difference... I'm not gonna argue eliteness levels lol... it's silly... a Delta squad will be more diversified though

a Tier 1 unit is a Tier 1 unit... nobody in the world wants that in their back yard

And I have a hard time believing there are front line SEALs from the Teams volunteering to change mission profile and attempt Delta selection.

They’re not trained to do that.

If they were going to be selected for Tier 1 Operator, they would be selected for DEVGRU.

Not to argue semantics, but the seals and devgru also have Marines. Or at least they did when I served. However, USMC is part of the department of the Navy. So while it's technically correct to say everyone in the seals is Navy, Marines usually don't like being classified that way. 😂

“All the branches” is being incredibly overstated here.

The vast majority of Delta comes from the 75th & SF

My cousin was at Fort Benning for marksmanship training... he was in a King of the Mountain circle with a Delta guy with a bonefrog. He got arm-barred on his first punch after dude had just taken care of 20+ guys in front of him.

There are SEALs in Delta... they pull from all the armed forces for Delta... I don't know why that's so hard to believe :)

I can give you his number if you want to talk to him about it lol

Yep. There are plenty of Marines (that implies “water”) on the UDT Teams.

SEALs pull from the UDT teams.

I assumed that DEVGRU was just SEALs... I can't confirm that... I can confirm the Delta one though

..... I was stationed at Bragg and knew people in Delta and still do and they are not all Army.

Sure. But bet there are very very very few SEALs...

And the overwhelming majority of Delta still comes from Army units. Hell, over 70% of Delta comes from the 75th Ranger Regiment alone...

Don't disagree, the heavy majority comes from 75th because their missions and most of Delta's missions align in concept where as Special Forces missions aren't necessarily the same except for the SOF - Alpha Detachments.

Delta usually fights along side Rangers on the battlefield. Rangers take control of the space, then Delta executes.

They made a whole movie about it... :)

First off, that may be one of the few situations where someone admits to being Delta. It's about as unusual as a ST6 guy saying he is ST6. Even SF, those guys are usually identifiable by the beard, lack of patches, etc. (they would walk into a chow hall in the middle east and it got quiet) but you wouldn't go up and have a convo about it if they didn't know you.

The point behind all these links is that, yes, Delta will select from other branches, but they are 25x more likely to select from their own which is what Beckwith wanted when he created Attachment Delta. Not to mention, can't see Marines or current SEALS not opting rather to be in DEVGRU than go Delta. When you don't make it in the DEVGRU selection, you're still a SEAL at least.

SF are tremendous soldiers and was lucky to have met, trained and even been outside the wire with them. They are trainers by nature as when they are in the battlespace, they are typically training some foreign element on how to close with an destroy the enemy. Them and the SEALS are also just a different breed personality wise than what most would think. Never met one from either that was a jerk and they were just the opposite. High quality people.

This debate is eerily similar to a nightmare I had about a two month debate concerning if MJ or LeBron was actually the GOAT. Now I just drink til I pass out every night so I don't have that nightmare again.
